Jane is one of my favorite blondes. This gal was never dressed down. This made her a star. Jane’s classic look here is perfect for all complexions, hair colors, eye colors, etc. in my opinion. It’s about false lashes and bold, matte lips.

FACE: Jane’s complexion is perfection in this look. Apply concealer where needed. I like the long-wearing formula of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer. Apply a satin foundation like MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation. Dust with a loose powder. I like Lancome Absolue Powder because it isn’t “dry” looking. It helps with a glowing complexion look and to keep foundation smooth. Apply a pink blush to cheeks such as Covergirl Classic Color Blush in Rose Silk. I really do love this color and its price.

EYES: Jane’s brows look great. To get a similar look, apply a brow pencil such as Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in a shadow for your complexion. Brush brows with a brow brush. Apply a buttery yellow shadow to the entire eye lid area. If you prefer a powder try BareMinerals Eye Shadow in Soul, a creamy beige shadow. If you like cream, try Benefit Lemon Aid. Thickly apply a liquid liner to top lash line, about 75%, not the entire top lash line. I like Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Brown Black. You’ll really need false lashes to get more of the “exact” look. I would apply individual lashes or half lashes to the top lashes, really emphasizing the outer portion. Everyone has their own way of doing this. Apply mascara to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Since this is a matte lipstick look, lips should be flake free. Scrub and apply lip balm thickly to lips hours before. Apply a simple, matte pencil such as NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. Color in the lines. I also like MAC Lipstick in Impassioned for this look. The formula is an amplified cream. It’s satin, just a little bit more glossy and “forgiving” than a full-blown matte.

I can’t believe that I haven’t talked about this product sooner. I’ve been using if for over 5 years. It’s one of my favorite products. Benefit High Beam really is a supermodel in a bottle. It does wonderful, wonderful things for my complexion. It’s a shimmery pale pink creamy liquid that I use on my cheeks, brow bones, down the nose, cleavage, etc. It blends in nicely without looking too OTT. It makes my skin look healthy and dewy. I love to mix it with cheek stains for a soft, glowing, and long-wearing flush. I also like to wear it over bare skin on my cheeks and around my brows, imagine a huge “C” shape with my usual face powder over it. This makes my skin look almost perfect. Did I mention that it even works well mixed with concealer, even concealer used under the eyes?

This creamy liquid creates a “glow” without being glittery. Yes, obviously, it contains shimmer but not huge shimmers, just microfine shimmer that doesn’t set in creases or set on top of the skin. I really do love this product for my fair, normal-type skin. No clogged pores or greasy feel.

My only real complaint is the packaging. The packaging is glass, imagine a “nail polish” bottle including that brush. This isn’t my favorite for travel or really for “hygiene” since I am smearing it on my face and then putting it pack in to breed some freaky germs or something. That being said, I don’t think that anything really gross is brewing in there and I haven’t had a bottle break (yet).

The bottle retails for $24, I find that it is worth it since I use it for many different purposes. It is available at www.benefitcosmetics.com.

I’m a sucker for chalky pink lipstick. The other thing that I am a sucker for is “cateyes”. So, I’m loving Claudia’s look. To get this look:

FACE: Apply concealer if and where needed. If you have under eye circles to cover, I like L’Oreal Visible Lift Line-Minimizing Under Eye Concealer. I would apply a powder foundation like Clinique Perfectly Real Makeup Compact in your shade. Apply a little bit of bronzer to cheeks as a blush like Maybelline Expert Wear Bronzer Pressed Powder in Salsa Sun.

EYES: Brows are brushed in place and filled with a powder. I would use a brow powder/wax kit like Estee Lauder Brow Perfecting Duo. Apply the powder with a brush then set with wax. It’s simple and really completes a look. Apply a light shadow like Clarins Single Eyeshadow in Vanilla Beige from lash line to brow. These eyes are all about the liner. I love Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink. Take a liner brush that you are comfortable with. For me, this is a thin and fine point art brush. Apply the liner thickly to the top lash line and winging out. Apply a “half” line to the lower lash very thinly. Connect your top and bottom lines for a retro look. Apply a few coats of black mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Make sure lips are well moisturized and not flaky. You may want to exfoliate and deep conditioning lips a day before doing this look. Chalky pink lipstick is so pretty but it doesn’t work on dry lips. NYX Round Lipstick in Strawberry Milk is the perfect shade for this look. It looks just like the color Claudia is wearing in the photo. Apply it directly from the tube on healthy lips. I’ve been through a few tubes of this shade. It’s a great retro pink.

Who doesn’t love a retro bleached blonde? Despite the blonde exposed to chlorine hair color, I love Mylène’s look. It’s that lovely late 50’s nice but still a fox look. It’s a classic look that will go with a variety of hair color/eye color combos.

FACE: Like most babes, the complexion is perfect. Apply concealer where needed. Clinique All About Eyes Concealer is great for the under eye area.  Apply a nice foundation like MAC Studio Fix Fluid in your shade. Apply a light dusting of a translucent powder like Clarins Loose Powder to absorb shine and to make foundation stay on longer. Cheeks have a soft pink glow. Apply a soft pink cream blush to the apples of cheeks for a natural glowing look. I love the shade of Clarins Multi-Blush Cream in Raspberry. It looks very natural and it is easy to blend.

EYES: Fill in brows with a brow powder if necessary. Estee Lauder Brow Perfecting Duo is nice because it has a powder and a wax to keep brows in place. Apply a soft matte shadow from lash line to brows. Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Vintage Lace is a great color to even out the lids. Line the top lash line with a black gel liner. Make sure to wing out for a retro cat eye look. Do not apply liner to bottom lash line. Apply false lashes or a few coats of mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are such a soft petal pink. Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Pink lacks “harshness”. Apply a soft milky mauve lipstick like Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Lipcolor in Love It. Top with a delicate pink lip gloss such as Covergirl Wetslicks Amazemint Lip Gloss in Pink Positive.

This 1949 pic of Esther is a bit grainy but she is still looking great. This gal transitions nicely from mermaid to snow bunny. This is how you get this wintery look:

FACE: Esther’s complexion is luminous even in the harsh winter air. Apply an illuminating foundation during these “dull” times. A nice one with more coverage is Clarins True Radiance Foundation. Apply an illuminating concealer under the eye area if needed. Almay Bright Eyes Concealer + Eye Base is a multi-use product that provides coverage and not just “shimmer” like most eye illuminators. Apply this product to lids as a base as well. Set makeup with a loose powder. Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil is nice for dry winterized skin. Apply one of my favorite complexion pick-me-ups, Benefit High Beam. down the cheek bone. Blend. Apply MAC Blushcreme in Ladyblush to cheeks. Apply as much as you see fit and blend.

EYES: Brows are pencil perfect. Fill in perfectly shaped brows with a powdery eye pencil like Lancome Le Crayon Poudre Powder Pencil (not pictured) in your shade. Sculpt in to place with the spoolie. Eyes are very simple and it is all about flirty lashes. The base has evened out your lid. Apply a nude-to-you shadow. For Esther, this would be something like Laura Mercier Mineral Eye Powder in Gemstone, a sheer light peach. If you feel a bit more definition is needed. Apply a light brown shade to the crease. Try a shade like Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow in Silken Taupe. Line top lashes with an eye liner to “thicken” lashes. I would apply a smooth liner such as Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner . Curl lashes and apply a lengthening and curling mascara like L’Oreal Panoramic Curl Extreme Mascara. Apply a few coats to top lashes and one coat to bottom lashes for a wide-eyed look.

LIPS: This is such a classic beauty look. Apply a rose lip liner such as Dior Crayon Contour Lip Liner in Candy Rose . Apply a satin rose lipstick like Milani Velvet Lips Lipstick in Lavish, a mulberry rose. Add some shine with a clear lip gloss with silver shimmer such as Lipstick Queen Shine in Silver Saint. If you really want to warm up in winter, apply DuWop Moon Venom. This adds a silver sparkle and lots of lip plumping “burn”.

And for a fragrance to finish this flirty mermaid-turned-snowbunny-look, I recommend Karl Lagerfield Kapsule Light EDT, a mix of juicy citrus, flowers, and winter spices.

Since being involved with this 30’s home renovation, I have been obsessed with 30’s everything. If I’m not peeling wallpaper, then I am out at the home salvage places looking for the back of my deco speakeasy. I’ve spent more time paying attention to the 30’s and more than just home trends. This includes 30’s hair and makeup. I must brag that my marcel waves are improving. I absolutely adore this look of bleached blonde turned red head Sybille Schmitz of Vampyr fame. (One of my all time favorite movies and you’ll notice many of my “favorites” in this look).

FACE: Skin is matte and perfect. Apply concealer where needed. A stick concealer usually can do it all and I love the packaging of Paul & Joe Stick Concealer. Apply a powder foundation like MAC Studio Fix, one of my all time favorites. Apply a pinching pink blush to the apples of cheeks with a large fluffy brush or a soft fan brush. NARS Powder Blush in Desire is the perfect color for this look. It is one of my all time favorite blushes for light to medium complexions.

EYES: Fill in brows with a brow pencil. 1930’s brows always had a bit of a waxy look. Apply a stiff pencil like Maybelline Expert Eyes Twin Brow Pencil in a shade darker than your hair if you are going for a genuine 30’s look. Apply a subtle champagne shimmer shadow to the entire lid from lash line to brows. I like Clinique Colour Surge Soft Shimmer Eye Shadow in Champagne. A warm brown shadow should be applied to the crease. L’Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Single in Brushed Suede is a nice rich, warm brown. Apply to the crease. Apply more of the champagne to closed lids and apply where the pupil would be if your eyes were open. This will add some light. Take the brown shade and apply to the bottom lash line with a smudger brush. This will make the lashes appear thicker. Apply a soft, dark brown kohl liner to top lash line. Don’t wing out and stay close to the lash line. Apply a shade like MAC Eye Kohl in Costa Riche. Whimsy false lashes are a must for this look. There are many out there with a variety of price points. I like the look of Laura Mercier Full Faux Lashes for this look. Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are pink and pretty simple. Try a color like Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipstick in Stay Pink. Apply a tiny dab of Smith’s Rosebud Salve (another favorite) to lips to keep them looking healthy and moist. And that’s it. Well, those finger waves, I’m saving that for another day.

Here’s another Rita Hayworth look that I love. It’s a clean, fresh, glowing look that is all about the lips. There was a reason why this woman was once voted to have the best lips in the world by the Artists League of America. I feel it’s the kind of look that will work with all complexions/hair/eye colors if they are going for a vintage look.

FACE: I say go for a glowing, satin complexion. Even out skin with NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. L’Oreal Visible Lift Concealer is nice for the under the eye area. Apply a sheer and not too matte loose powder like Sue Devitt Hydrating Marine Minerals Loose Powder. It has SPF 30 to keep skin looking beautiful. Cover Girl TruCheeks Blush in #1 is perfect for this look. Take a big blush and run it all over the three colors and apply to the apples of cheeks. There is enough shimmer in the blush to make skin look flawless but not “glittery”.

EYES: Rita’s brows are penciled and thin. If you must, draw brows in with a thin pencil such as Prescriptives Groom Stick for Brows in your shade. Apply a matte antique white shade such as Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace all over eyes from lash line to brow. Take a sheer greenish/brownish/gray shade like Bare Escentuals Glimpse Eyeshadow in Moss and lightly apply from lash line to crease. Blend for a “natural” look. Apply a soft liner to the top lash line, something like Bobbi Brown Creamy Eye Pencil in Mahogany. Apply a few coats of mascara to top lashes (after curling) and one coat to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Apply a deep pink lip liner like Avon Ultra Luxury Lip Liner in Rosebud. Apply one of my all time favorite lip colors to the lips: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherries in the Snow. Apply MAC Clear Lipglass over the lipstick with a lip brush for added shine.

ritaslook

Androgyny but with lots and lots of makeup. I guess that was one of the few good things about the 80’s. Don’t be scared to lay it on thick.

FACE: Cover up imperfections with an all around concealer like MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer in your shade. Face is matte (and I am sure shades lighter). I love MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Apply a hot pink powder blush such as Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Blush in Hot Pink.

EYES: Brush brows into place and fill them in with a soft, powdery brow pencil like Lancome Le Crayon Poudre. The colors needed for lids include a soft cream like Origins Eyeshadow in Cream Tulle, a medium plum such as MAC Eyeshadow in Plum Dressing, a burgundy like MAC Eyeshadow in Sketch, and a black or a burgundy black like MAC Eyeshadow in Beauty Marked. Apply the cream shade all over. From lash line to lid crease apply the plum/magenta. Also line the bottom lash line with this shade. In the crease with eyes open, apply the burgundy. With a crease brush apply the darkest shade, making a sideways “v”. Take this dark shade and apply halfway on the bottom lash line in the outer corners. Take the cream and blend into the lid towards the corner closest to your nose. Blend and blend until you get the look you want. Take a pitch black eye liner like Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyeliner and line top lash line halfway to make lashes appear fuller. Apply lots and lots of black mascara.

LIPS: Lips have full-coverage with a glossy raspberry shade. So make sure they are exfoliated and moisturized ahead of time. Line lips with a raspberry shade like Prescriptives Deluxe Lip Pencil in Raspberry. Apply a slightly glossy raspberry lipstick like Physcian’s Formula Plump Potion Lipstick in Raspberry Potion. Apply a shimmery pink lip gloss like Lancome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Raspberry Glimmer to the center of your bottom lip.

Weekly Cheap Secret:

I am a fan of Black Radiance lip products. They come in a great range of color and have lots of different formulas from matte, full-coverage lipstick to sheer glosses. And they are really, really cheap. I love the shade #5064 Cleopatra Red in The Indelibly Radiant formula. This formula is glossy, packs pigment, and is pretty long-wearing, especially for a glossy formula. This color looks even better on me the more it wears off. It can mimic a berry kissed lip stain and it really reminds me alot of Bobbi Brown’s 2009 Nautical color collection. And I have a Cleopatra complex so I couldn’t find a name that I love more.  Anyways, below is a pic of me wearing this shade. Please ignore me (too humid to wear foundation that day and flashes are rude, I’m not too vain, right?) and just look at the amazing shade. The first picture is of me wearing it straight from the tube. It’s a bit Barbie pink with lots of shimmer. I’ll wear it heavy like this with a pairing of Urban Decay glitter liquid eyeliner or a swipe or navy mascara with nude eyes. The second is it blotted and worn for about an hour. It is a little more “fresh”. It shows a bit of my natural lip color. It looks amazing just paired with a stroke of liquid liner for a cat-eye effect or really with nude shadows and a cheekstain. It looks “healthy” and not overly made up.

The color in the tube looks like a deep raspberry with tons of gold shimmer. It has a slight fruit fragrance. I got my tube for less than $2.50 at Wal-Mart. You can not beat that price for this product. The tube is slim and gold toned. It looks way more expensive that what it is. It is available at most drugstores and super stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart.

Who doesn’t want a completely made up look every know and then? I love Tanya’s look here. This angel is all made up and it is all about product. Every feature features color. I love it.

FACE: Even out skintone with a foundation such as NARS Balanced Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. I like the creaminess of Prescriptives Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer. I like to apply it with fingertips since the warmth of your body helps it to melt and look natural.  Apply a light dusting of Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder in your shade. This helps with shine and wear. Don’t be scared of the blush. You want a flush and the only way you can get it is with a bold blush. Try NARS Blush in Desire, a matte hot pink. This is one of my favorite shades ever. Take a large fluffy brush and swipe up the cheekbones. Layer as much as you need depending on your skintone.

EYES: Apply a brow powder such as Bare Escentuals Brow Color in your shade. For the eyes, use Estee Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad in Blue Smoke. Apply the lightest gray, blue shade from lashline to just above the crease. Apply the slightly deeper shade, the one next to the lightest in the compact from lashline to crease. Apply the carkest shade in the crease, blend well. Take the darkest shade and it apply it along the bottom lashline for a slightly smoky look. Line eyes (top and bottom) with Avon Glimmersticks Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight Blue. Coat lashes with a mascara with extra volume. Something like Avon Supershock Mascara in Black. Apply a few coats to bottom and top lashes.

LIPS: Line lips with a pink lipliner such as L’Oreal Infalliable Never Fail Lipliner Pencil in Pink. Apply a blue based pink lipstick to lips, try a moisturizing formula such as Covergirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Pink Chic Shimmer. Apply a hot pink lip gloss over the lipstick. Try Lancome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Volcanic Pink.

This cool toned look works best with blue, green, and brown eyes (any eye color really). Those with “cooler” undertones, blondes, brunettes, and gray hair.
