old shows

I love 60’s cop/spy dramas. Ironside isn’t my favorite but I do love the take on 60’s San Francisco. I also love fellow Tennessean, Barbara Anderson, AKA Officer Eve Whitfield. In the show, she often sported dramatic matte white shadow and thick liner and false lashes with pearly lipstick. In this picture, she is a bit more “natural”. I did find her hairstyle a bit unfortunate for some of the show’s history, my husband refers to it as a Bald Eagle hairstyle. I do see the resemblance, especially from the side. However, I do find it fitting and quite “sporty” for a 60’s female police officer. To get this look:

FACE: If you are going to be arresting out-of-control hippies, you’ll need a long wearing foundation like Revlon Colorstay Makeup. Dust with a loose powder like Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder in your shade. Cheeks are natural but they do have a slight bit of color. Apply a sheer shade like Physician’s Formula Mineral Blush Talc-Free Powder Blush in Natural Glow.

EYES: Brows are natural looking but they are in place. I recommend a clear wax such as Anastasia Brow Fix Clear Wax Pencil. Apply a pale peach shadow from lash line to brows. I love the color of Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Peach Sorbet. It adds more warmth than the usual beige shade. From lash line to crease apply a rich espresso shadow like Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Super Shimmer in Black Coffee. After applying the rich brown shade, get a shimmery peach shade such as Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Shadow Stick in Golden Peach and apply to the inner corner of the eye, closest to the nose. Blend it in. This creates some “light”. Take a black liquid liner like MAC Liquid Eye Liner in Boot Black. Apply it half way, thickly to the top lash line. Apply false lashes or lots of thickening mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are very simple. Choose a nice apricot-ish pearly lipstick such as Revlon Super Lustrous Pearl Lipstick in Silver City Pink. If you want extra shine, dab bottom lip with a clear lip gloss like Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss.

I’m getting in the mood for Halloween here. I love Star Trek for all of their retro babes in ridiculous, cheesy costumes. To get the look of this minor role, major babe:

FACE: Even out blotches or under eye circles with a concealer that can do it all like Covergirl TruConceal Concealer. Apply foundation where and if needed. I suggest a dewy finish foundation such as The Body Shop Moisture Foundation. If you really love a dewy look, I suggest following up with an illuminating powder like Bare Escentuals Illuminating Mineral Veil. I really think this look calls the perfect peachy pink shimmer of NARS Blush in Orgasm.

EYES: Obviously brows are trying to be ridiculous. Even I agree that this look isn’t for everyday wear. I suggest styling brows in a natural arch with a clear brow gel like Revlon Brow Styling Gel. Apply a cream shadow with a peachy glow like Laura Mercier Satinee Creme Eye Color in Peach Organza all over the lid. This provides a nice glow and lots of hold. Next take a smokey gray with lots of shimmer, something like Milani Runway Eyes Eye Shadow in Black Out (dry not wet). Take the color from the top lash line and fill up to crease. Then in a “cat eye” like motion, sweep the corners outward and up. Apply it this way, as dramatic or as tame as you desire. Apply a black eye liner like Almay Intense i-Color Liner in Black Pearl to top lash line. Of course I say to go all out and apply crazy lashes. Especially if this is a party look. If not, apply lots of black mascara to top lashes and less to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are very simple. Apply a pearly pinky peach lipstick like Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Silver City Pink. Dab the center of the bottom lip with a peach lip gloss, Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss in Juicy Peach.

And is there a fragrance any better than to complete this look for the bottle alone? Nope, stick with Cartier Panthere EDP.

This look is easy and so great for summer. Everything I’m “using” is from the Origins line. It’s no-fuss and I love that.

FACE: Even out complexion with Origins Nude and Improved Makeup. It’s oil-free, long-wearing, and has SPF 15. This makes it a hit for summer. It’s a sheer formula, so your freckles will peek through! If you are oily/shiny, apply All or Nothing Sheer Pressed Powder. It’s portable and you can carry it around for touch-ups. Apply a small amount of Pinch Your Cheeks Gel Blush in Raspberry. This gives a healthy, natural looking glow. I can not live without gel blush or cheek stains in the summer.

EYES: If you have unmanageable brows, brush a little bit of Just Browsing Brow Shaper in your shade onto brows. Apply a light beige shadow such as Eyeshadow in Cream Tulle from lash line to brows. Apply a medium brown shadow such as Nutcracker from lash line to crease. I would take a liner brush and use this brown as a liner as well. Apply closely to top and bottom lash line to help make lashes appear fuller. Curl lashes and apply a coat or two of Fringe Benefits Mascara. Personally, I would reach for a brown or brown/black for this natural, warm look, but use whatever you have.

LIPS: The lips are nude. I would protect them with a swipe of Cover Your Mouth Lip Protector with SPF 8.

That’s it. You’re done. This is a free spirited look that is timeless. It works for everybody.

liptonlook

This is my Cheryl Ladd playing the role of Malibu Barbie look. It is sun-kissed and carefree, easy to wear and perfect for summer.

Face: First even out the complexion. Apply a tinted moisturizer such as Benefit You Rebel in your shade (only 2 to choose from). If you want a bit more of a bronze look, mix a little or lot (depending on your desired level of bronze) of Benefit Talk To The Tan. Apply concealer to areas of need. L’Oreal Visible Lift Concealer is nice for dark circles. If you have a tendency to get oily, apply a loose powder such as Neutrogena Healthy Skin Loose Powder. If your skin is normal to dry, you can live without powder, this look needs to look “healthy” and not cakey. Try a blotting sheet throughout the day instead such as Neutrogena Shine Control Blotting Sheets. Apply a coral-ish bronze blush to cheeks such as Revlon Beyond Natural Blush in Peach.

EYES: Brows are simple. Just brush into place with a brow gel like Amazing Cosmetics Brow Gel. For the eyes use L’Oreal Eye Shadow Quad in Milla’s Blues. Apply the lightest shade, a pale beige, from lashline to brows. Use the warm medium brown (#2) from lashline to crease. In the crease, blend the next darkest brown (#3). In the outermost “crease” area in a “V” shade, blend the darkest shade in the quad. Blend until it looks seamless. Take the darkest shade and dip a fine, angled lining brush into it. Line the bottom lash line. If you feel more “depth” is needed. Line top lashes, very closely to the lashline, with L’Oreal Le Kohl Pencil Smooth Defining Eyeliner in Cafe. Curl lashes and apply a few coats of mascara to top and bottom lashes. You may want to use a volumizing formula such as L’Oreal Voluminous.

Lips: Lips are sheer with just a kiss of orange/coral. Apply Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencils in Genre, a super sheer shade with a wow! hint of orange.

The skin is bronzed. You can kind of cheat a tan with Sue Devitt Tinted Body Bronzer. It has a very pretty scent of frangipani. A nice “matching” summer scent is Lucy B. Pink Frangipani Fragrance,  available in a travel friendly roll-on.

summerangel

Who doesn’t want a completely made up look every know and then? I love Tanya’s look here. This angel is all made up and it is all about product. Every feature features color. I love it.

FACE: Even out skintone with a foundation such as NARS Balanced Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. I like the creaminess of Prescriptives Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer. I like to apply it with fingertips since the warmth of your body helps it to melt and look natural.  Apply a light dusting of Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder in your shade. This helps with shine and wear. Don’t be scared of the blush. You want a flush and the only way you can get it is with a bold blush. Try NARS Blush in Desire, a matte hot pink. This is one of my favorite shades ever. Take a large fluffy brush and swipe up the cheekbones. Layer as much as you need depending on your skintone.

EYES: Apply a brow powder such as Bare Escentuals Brow Color in your shade. For the eyes, use Estee Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad in Blue Smoke. Apply the lightest gray, blue shade from lashline to just above the crease. Apply the slightly deeper shade, the one next to the lightest in the compact from lashline to crease. Apply the carkest shade in the crease, blend well. Take the darkest shade and it apply it along the bottom lashline for a slightly smoky look. Line eyes (top and bottom) with Avon Glimmersticks Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight Blue. Coat lashes with a mascara with extra volume. Something like Avon Supershock Mascara in Black. Apply a few coats to bottom and top lashes.

LIPS: Line lips with a pink lipliner such as L’Oreal Infalliable Never Fail Lipliner Pencil in Pink. Apply a blue based pink lipstick to lips, try a moisturizing formula such as Covergirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Pink Chic Shimmer. Apply a hot pink lip gloss over the lipstick. Try Lancome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Volcanic Pink.

This cool toned look works best with blue, green, and brown eyes (any eye color really). Those with “cooler” undertones, blondes, brunettes, and gray hair.

tanyarobertslook

Sometimes you just want a “natural” makeup look. It is more of a “neutral” look because you wear cosmetics but nothing “screams” out. I really love this look, sometimes. I usually will do one bold thing so it is nice to have a 70’s laid-back but polished look. Pair this with a big floppy hat and you’re ready for summer. I’m using Revlon cosmetics to create this look. They’ve recently came out with a “Beyond Natural” line that really reminds me of some 70’s cosmetic’s trends.

First even out the complexion with a light foundation or powder depending on your skin type. The Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup is nice for normal to dry skins and the Mineral Foundation is nice for normal or oily skins. Apply concealer where needed, try Beyond Natural. It also has a nice highlighting cream which is a great addition for this look. Jaclyn’s skin is “glossy” above the cheekbones and down the nose. Normal to dry skins should blend this on the cheek bones and down the nose. Cheeks are warm. Apply Beyond Natural Blush Bronzer in Nude. There are also darker shades for darker skintones, try Plumberry.

Brows are natural and shouldn’t be filled in. Apply a brow gel if you have super unruley brows. Otherwise, leave them be. Eyes are simple. Take a large fluffy brush and apply Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace, soft beige, from lashline to brows. Using a light hand, blend Matte Eyeshadow in Rich Sable, chocolate brown, into the crease. If you are super pale, you could leave the Rich Sable step out. To give the illusion of thicker lashes, line the top lashline with a soft black liner pencil such as Matte Luxurious Color Kohl Eyeliner in Black Truffle. Apply the line thinly and use a soft hand. Apply mascara, a bunch of layers to top lashes and one to the bottom. Try a product like Beyond Natural Defining Mascara in Black.

Take a bit of the highlighting cream included with the concealer and dab it over the top lip and blend upward. This will give a “pouty” look and keep color from running. Apply Beyond Natural Cream Lipgloss in Spice or Deep Spice for deeper skintones (both are warm nudes). It is shiny and provides medium coverage. (If you must have a lip liner try, Colorstay Liner for Lips in Nude.)

It sounds like a lot but it isn’t. A look like this should take less than 10 minutes, especially if you leave out lip liner and brows.

Is there a name that is more synonymous with man killing than Zsa Zsa Gabor? No. This lady knows glamour to the point that is comical. I know I love her for it. I purchased “How to Catch a Man, How to Keep a Man, and How to Get Rid of Man” for my cousin many years ago. She’s a mega lesbian now. Hope it wasn’t because of something I said. 🙂

To get the ultra glam look of Zsa Zsa you need ultra glamorous makeup such as Guerlain and YSL.

First apply foundation. You want a dewey finish so try something like YSL Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation. Apply Concealer where needed. Try Touche Eclat. If powder is needed, apply Guerlain Les Violettes Matte Touch Powder. Cheeks are very nude. You could go without blush, but if you are like me and need it. Apply YSL Touche Blush in Sienna to the apples of cheeks. I personally don’t like the sponge applicator and I like to open the top and use a brush to apply the blush.

The eyes are fairly simple. Use YSL Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil in your shade to define brows and brush into place with the spoolie on the end. Apply YSL Ombres DuoLumieres Eyeshadow Duo in Golden Sand-Brown Earth. Take the lightest shade and apply from lashline to brows. Take the darker shade and blend thoroughly into the crease. Line eyes with black liquid eyeliner such as YSL L’Eyeliner Noir and slightly wing out for a cateye effect. Curl lashes. I would recommend applying faux lashes but you can use a mascara such as Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara.

The lips are what make this look. Apply lip liner. I’m old school. I love the stuff. Apply Guerlain Lip Liner in Corail Precieux. Apply Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in Red Strass which is a shimmery red. Apply Guerlain KissKiss Lip Gloss in Coral Pearl for extra shine. I also like to take the YSL Touche Eclat and blend into the bow of the lips for an extra pouty and refined look. Finish with a sexy fragrance such as Guerlain Samsara for a finished man killing look.

It is no secret. I think everybody knows that I love redheads. This does not exclude the spunky Agnes Moorehead. Wig or no wig, I loved her look on Bewitched. I only hope that one day I’ll be as fabulous as she was.

To get the look, apply a dewy foundation such as Kevyn Aucoin The Dew Drop Powder Foundation in your shade.Apply an illuminating concealer where needed. I love Dior SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen. Lightly dust with a powder such as Shiseido The Makeup Enriched Loose Powder (it is sooo smooth). Apply a bronzey shade to cheeks. I recommend Benefit Dallas (and this powder strangely looks great on redheads).

Pencil brows with a pencil in your shade. I like Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil. Use the spoolie to brush brows into place. Apply a pearly white shadow such as Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Glimmer Eye Shadow in Ecstasy from lashline to brows. Then, from lashline to crease brush Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Eye Shadow in Skyline or a lilac-y steel shade. Apply above the crease if needed for extra drama. Line eyes with liquid liner. I love Lancome Artliner in Noir. Use a heavy hand and wing out. Apply tons of black mascara or false lashes. It is your preference.

Lips are bronzey. Line with a pencil such as Lancome Le Lipstique in Fraichelle. Apple Lancome Color Design Lip Color in Sugared Maple, a must have shade for natural or dyed redheads. Lightly dab a lip gloss in the center of lips for a plumping effect. I would try a warm shade such as Bare Escentuals Buxom Lip Gloss in Isabella, a copper.

I imagine Agnes wearing a cozy scent such as Tom Ford White Patchouli.

All items can be purchased on sephora.com.

I don’t mean to but I get so much fashion/cosmetic inspiration from the “original” Star Trek series. I just love Star Trek babes.  Lt. Marlena’s look is so vintage but so modern at the same time. The makeup is so bombshell the only thing that keeps it dated is the hair (which I love).

To get Marlena’s look, apply a tinted moisturizer in your shade. I recommend something like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Apply an illuminating concealer where needed, especially under eyes for a “fresh” look. I do love Dior SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen.Apply a light dusting of a loose powder with a fluffy brush to absorb oil and to make the color “stick”. Try something like Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Powder for a natural look. Now you have a wonderful “blank” canvas.

Fill in brows for a very nice “manicured” look. I recommend Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in your shade. Brush into place with the spoolie. Lt. Marlena is all about the brows. She has that “lifted” look from a light highlighter shade. Brush a nude powder shadow from lashline to brows, try the lightest shade in Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Madrague. Apply the darker brown shade from this duo in the crease. Open the eye and take a large fluffy shadow brush and apply the darker brown shade above the crease as well. To “lift” the brows, swip Benefit High Brow under the lashline and blend. The eyes are super 60-ish and require tons of black liquid liner. I love Lancome Artliner Eyeliner in Noir because it is so easy to use. Apply this to the top lashline, thickly, and wing out just a little bit. Apply tons of black mascara or apply false lashes.

Cheeks are bronzed. Lightly dust bronzer all over face if you are feeling a bit washed out from the eye makeup. Apply Too Faced Caribbean in a Compact Sun Bunny Bronzer to cheeks like you would blush. Lips are basic and glossy with the faintest hint of bronze. Apply something like Calvin Klein Delicious Pout Lip Gloss in Dew Drop.

All products can be purchased on sephora.com.

And I want to add that I am so culturally clueless. I didn’t even know that a new “Star Trek” was coming out until this morning. I don’t like it, I don’t like it one bit.

I’m super siked about this limited edition makeup collection. I love the stupid satire of Aussie Dame Edna. I remember watching her interview some of my favorite people like kd lang and Grace Jones. As a kid, I couldn’t wait to grow old and retire and have violet hued hair. Then I found out that Ms. Edna was really a Mr. Edna and even that didn’t bother me. MAC has launched a limited edition collection. The packaging is a violet with red sparkling specs on it. I’m not wild about the packaging because it looks too Red Hat Society and I don’t even know what that is. The names are fun. You’ll get a giggle if you are a Dame Edna fan.

FACE: There are two new High Light Powders. There is Spectacle which is a buttery soft pink and What A Dame! which is a warm peach. Both are lovely and go for $26.

EYES: There are two eye shadow trios. One is Royal Tour which is a blue and purple mix. I like it but I really need to play with it more to see if these actually work together. Climate Blue has been relaunched which is a deep blue. The two new additions are Dame’s Desire and Royal Tour which are two lovely lavenders. The other compact is Wisteria. It’s a smoky blue compact with relaunched Fineshine plus the two new Wisteria and Divine Night. Each retail for $32.50

LIPS & NAILS: There are three new lipsticks and I love all three. There is Kanga Rouge which is a perfect cool red, Coral Polyp which is a lovely coral with a gross name, and Gladiola (my favorite) which is a matte blue-ish pink that looks really nice with cool eye makeup. There are three new lip glosses. There is Splendid which is a pale warm pink, Hot Frost which is a blue-ish frosty pink, and Possum Nose Pink which is a brighter coraly red. All of the lip products go for $14. The nail colors are fun. There is Varicose Violet which is a fun light purple and Asiatique a blue-ish red. These go for $11.

I haven’t decided what I want yet. I now I’m picking up one of the lipsticks and maybe the Royal Tour Eye Shadow Trio. I want to buy my mother the Possum Nose Pink Lip Gloss and the Varicose Violet nail lacquer but I really don’t want to run it over to “the maximum-security twilight home for the bewildered”.
