Weekly Cheap Secret:

I am a fan of Black Radiance lip products. They come in a great range of color and have lots of different formulas from matte, full-coverage lipstick to sheer glosses. And they are really, really cheap. I love the shade #5064 Cleopatra Red in The Indelibly Radiant formula. This formula is glossy, packs pigment, and is pretty long-wearing, especially for a glossy formula. This color looks even better on me the more it wears off. It can mimic a berry kissed lip stain and it really reminds me alot of Bobbi Brown’s 2009 Nautical color collection. And I have a Cleopatra complex so I couldn’t find a name that I love more.  Anyways, below is a pic of me wearing this shade. Please ignore me (too humid to wear foundation that day and flashes are rude, I’m not too vain, right?) and just look at the amazing shade. The first picture is of me wearing it straight from the tube. It’s a bit Barbie pink with lots of shimmer. I’ll wear it heavy like this with a pairing of Urban Decay glitter liquid eyeliner or a swipe or navy mascara with nude eyes. The second is it blotted and worn for about an hour. It is a little more “fresh”. It shows a bit of my natural lip color. It looks amazing just paired with a stroke of liquid liner for a cat-eye effect or really with nude shadows and a cheekstain. It looks “healthy” and not overly made up.

The color in the tube looks like a deep raspberry with tons of gold shimmer. It has a slight fruit fragrance. I got my tube for less than $2.50 at Wal-Mart. You can not beat that price for this product. The tube is slim and gold toned. It looks way more expensive that what it is. It is available at most drugstores and super stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart.

Sometimes your angel is the centerfold, this includes your Liz Taylor as Cleopatra complex. I really, really like Nars summer 2009 look. It is everything that I love, heavy teal eyes and blunt bangs. It is meant to be a very “tropic” look hence all the deep bronzes but it has enough of that Old Hollywood “Egyptian” vibe to be fun and interesting and not just another pretty, bronzey, summer look.

EYES: There is an Eye Shadow Single in Tropic which is a rich teal blue with silver shimmers. It is very pretty and very Cleopatra when paired with heavy, black liquid liner. It retails for $22. There is a nice “everyday” Eye Shadow Duo in Scorching Sun. This contains an orangey copper shimmer and a golden peachy sheen, both really warm shades. This has to be one of the best colors lately that has hit the market to really enhance blue eyes. Talk about making the eyes steal the show. Duos retail for $32 and I am so tempted to grab this one.

LIPS & NAILS: There are two lipstick shades. There is Falbala which is a warm, rose, shiny shimmer and Outsider which is a bronze coral. I am in love Outsider. It really helps to pull the rest of this collection together. There is a super friendly Lip Gloss in Belize which is a light rose with gold shimmer. It looks so nice with dark eyes. Lipsticks and lip glosses go for $24. There is a Lip Liner in Tonga which is a neutral mauve that retails for $20. There is a sheer golden peachy pink Nail Polish in Adelita that is sure to enhance any sunkissed complexions. It retails for $16.

FACE: A new shade of Bronzing Powder has been launched. It is Irrestistblement which is a dark chocolaty bronze with gold shimmer. It looks very pretty but is too dark for my Laguna loving complexion. It retails for $30.

Overall, I love the collection. It is one of those “hold me back” colllections. I have to talk myself out of buying everything. It works for pale and deep complexions. A bronzer is the star but look at the fair, blue-eyed model. She looks great. Nars is finally giving me what I like again after a few “dry” seasons.

So I really don’t expect for many people to go out in this. I sure wish I could but even I have limits so I am giving an “everyday” interpretation of this look. I must add that I have a bit of a Liz Taylor as Cleopatra complex. I love the makeup. I wear this much many days if you exclude the wild brows. I love the blunt bangs. And I would love to wear the braids and beads if I didn’t end up looking too much like Rick James. I love the jewelry. I collect snake jewelry and I would dare to wear a snake cuff on my flabby arm.

To get this look you need a super matte face. Apply a powder foundation like MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. Try a full coverage like Beneft Boi-Ing in your shade. Brows are filled in and dark if you so desire. For black Cleopatra brows, apply Billion Dollar Brows Brow Powder in Raven, a soft black. Apply a nice shadow primer like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin. Pat gently. I would go with an eyeshadow palette like Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ludwig available at Sephora. Apply Downtown which is a medium brown shimmer from lashline to brows. Take Baroque, a bronzey brown shimmer and apply from lashline to just above the crease and blend. Take Lucifer, the matte charcoal black, and blend into the crease and down with a very heavy hand. (I must add that these shadows are pretty nice quality and make for lots of nice smoky, Cleopatra eyes). Now to the heavy amounts of black eyeliner. I recommend a gel formula like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink. Line the top eye with line and extend as far as you feel comfortable with. This line should be pretty thick when applied above the lashline. Line the bottom lashline with the gel liner and extend until it meets the top extended line. Join the lines together for that special Egyptian inspired look. Apply false lashes or tons of mascara to complete the eye look. Cheeks are super nude. Apply a sheer nude powder like Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Nude. Lips are nude and matte. If you have a warm skin tone apply Revlon Matte Lipstick in Nude Attitude. If you have a cool skin tone apply Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Lip Gloss in Defeaning Silence. You may want to apply a clear lip balm before you wear such a nude shades to keep lips from looking too splotchy. Fragrance should be luxe and exotic and that is why I would recommend L’Occitane Eau d’Iparie EDT.

I really like this NARS Eyeshadow Duo. Rated R has one of the best greens in the world in it. It is a bright acid green with tons of gold shimmer. It is loud and wears nicely with any shade from eggplant to chocolate brown. It looks alot like MAC Eyeshadow in Bitter. However, this green has tons of gold shimmer. This gives it depth and just makes it down right fun. The blue isn’t too bad either. It is a royal blue with tons of silver shimmer. I do prefer it over many of MAC’s blue shades. My only complaint is that like so many blues, this one turns a bit green on my eye lid. I have to wear a primer to keep it looking just as vivid as it is in the compact.

These two colors do wear nicely together but I do prefer to keep them separate. I find that they “fade” or look “dull” when worn together.  I love to wear the acidic green all the way up to the crease with a nude champagne shimmer under it. I like to wear MAC Chrome yellow in the inside corner of the eye and under the bottom lashline. I love to wear MAC Orange or in the crease. And I like to top it off with a nice black liquid liner. Trade the Orange out for MAC Hepcat and you have another great look. Sometimes I like to wear this green shade alone as a wash. Or for my more “neutral” look. The same champagne shade under the green with a deep dark chocolate brown in the crease with smoky brown liner.

The blue looks nice mixed with greens or other blues. I like to wear it with a frosty white eyeshadow underneath. Like Clinique Sugar Sugar or MAC Crystal Avalanche. I wear the blue all the way up to the crease. I like to blend a deep blue in the crease like MAC Plumage. I line with navy or black liner. It is a nice look. A bit Liz Taylor as Cleopatra. Pair with super nude matte lips and it looks wonderful.

I feel like for such “bold” colors, I get my $32 out of it. These shades wear nicely with others that I own. I mean what else can you mix a hot pink shadow with? It can be purchased at beauty.com.
