Jane is one of my favorite blondes. This gal was never dressed down. This made her a star. Jane’s classic look here is perfect for all complexions, hair colors, eye colors, etc. in my opinion. It’s about false lashes and bold, matte lips.

FACE: Jane’s complexion is perfection in this look. Apply concealer where needed. I like the long-wearing formula of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer. Apply a satin foundation like MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation. Dust with a loose powder. I like Lancome Absolue Powder because it isn’t “dry” looking. It helps with a glowing complexion look and to keep foundation smooth. Apply a pink blush to cheeks such as Covergirl Classic Color Blush in Rose Silk. I really do love this color and its price.

EYES: Jane’s brows look great. To get a similar look, apply a brow pencil such as Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in a shadow for your complexion. Brush brows with a brow brush. Apply a buttery yellow shadow to the entire eye lid area. If you prefer a powder try BareMinerals Eye Shadow in Soul, a creamy beige shadow. If you like cream, try Benefit Lemon Aid. Thickly apply a liquid liner to top lash line, about 75%, not the entire top lash line. I like Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Brown Black. You’ll really need false lashes to get more of the “exact” look. I would apply individual lashes or half lashes to the top lashes, really emphasizing the outer portion. Everyone has their own way of doing this. Apply mascara to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Since this is a matte lipstick look, lips should be flake free. Scrub and apply lip balm thickly to lips hours before. Apply a simple, matte pencil such as NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. Color in the lines. I also like MAC Lipstick in Impassioned for this look. The formula is an amplified cream. It’s satin, just a little bit more glossy and “forgiving” than a full-blown matte.

So what? Sure, this pic has been photo-rouged but I love Miss Gabrielle’s look. Who doesn’t want the look of Coco Chanel?

FACE: Coco is porcelain perfect in this pic. We can’t get this smooth look without the help of somebody that is very handy with a computer 🙂 First, apply concealer where needed. Illamasqua Concealer is a good do it all product. Apply a matte finish powder in your shade. Try something like Chanel Double Perfection Natural Matte Compact Powder. Cheeks are super sheer. Apply a sheer powder blush in a slightly sable shade. Try something like Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush in Silky Sable (not pictured) or Larenim Blush in Innocence.

EYES: Brows are sleek and a bit exaggerated. Fill in brows if necessary with a brow pencil like Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in your shade. Brush an ivory shade from lash line to brows. I like Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Eyeshadow Single in Tusk. Brush a matte sable brown like Clinique Colour Surge Stay Matte Eye Shadow in Sable (not pictured). Line top lashes with a black eyeliner pencil like Avon Mineral Eye Liner in Onyx. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

LIPS: This look is all about a bold, fearless red lip. So, don’t do this look if your lips are chapped and less than perfect. Apply a red lip liner if you fear bleeding. L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in Always Red is an inexpensive option. A lipstick like Revlon Matte Lipstick in In The Red is rich and matte. Or you can use Victoria’s Secret Matte Cream Lipstick in Icon (not pictured).

And of course finish with the Chanel fragrance of your choice but I must lean towards #19. It’s one of my favorites.

Who doesn’t want to look like a totally hot babe actress and totally hot babe scientist? Seriously.

FACE: While you are working on your canvas, apply a nourishing lip balm like Yu-Be Lip Balm. This is important because this is a matte lip look and lips need to be moist and chap-free. Hedy’s complexion is matte and flawless. First even out complexion with a matte foundation such as YSL Matt Touch Foundation. Apply concealer where needed. Estee Lauder Smoothing Creme Concealer is great for under the eyes. I wouldn’t wear powder with this look since a matte foundation was used. But, if you are oily, do dust lightly with a translucent powder to set the makeup. Take a big fluffy brush and apply a coral pink blush to cheeks. A color like Benefit Coralista will really brighten the complexion without being brash. It really is a great coral blush for pale skins.

EYES: Heidy’s brows are penciled. We all can’t do that. However, the brows should be nicely manicured. If necessary fill in the brows with a pencil such as Tarte EmphasEyes High Definition Brow Pencil. This is a thin pencil with a spoolie on one end. Eyes are very neutral and it is all about the lashes. Apply a nude matte shadow from lash line to brows. For a complexion like Hedy’s this would be Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace. Apply a sheer light brown shade from lash line to crease. A color like Bare Escentuals Eyeshadow in Bisque. If you have a bronzer this will do too. Apply it like an eyeshadow. In the crease apply a light steel color like Dr.Hauschka Eyeshadow Solo in #4, a smoky gray brown. Also apply this gray closely to the bottom lash line to give the illusion of fuller bottom lashes. Line eyes closely with a gel eyeliner like Shu Uemura Painting Gel Eyeliner in M Black. I think false lashes are a must for this look but mascara will do to. Apply what you want.

LIPS: Lips are matte and pretty bold. Wipe off lip balm. Apply foundation to the lips to create a blank canvas. Apply Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Rust. Apply a matte rust lipstick like Sue Devitt Balanced Matte Lipstick in Phuket, a perfectly matte rusty red. If you must have a glossier lip, more satin because you are not used to matte lipsticks, try Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in Rust. It’s a rusty shade with a bit more sheen.

It’s really difficult to decide what fragrance a beauty like Hedy would wear. But, I would have to go with something modern, woodsy but femme like Tom Ford Private Blend Black Violet. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go dye my hair to a nice raven shade. I am loving this look for fall.

Oh, it is more of one of my favorite gals, Sandy Warner. I love the ultra matte makeup on this 1960 album cover. The lip is lush without being that matte, classic red. To get this look, I am recommending Revlon colors because I am in love with the new matte collection. Plus, it is Recession friendly 🙂

First, apply foundation and concealer where needed. Try something like Colorstay Active Light Makeup with the Colorstay Concealer. Apply powder if needed. Apply Mineral Bronzer in your shade. You do want a tiny bit of glimmer for a “sunkissed” glow. Apply it with a large, fluffy brush. Apply another coat of the bronzer to cheekbones. This is your blush. It is all about the bronze with this look. Now to the eyes. Apply Brow Fantasy in your shade. Brows are thick and filled. Apply the Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace all over the lid with a fluffy brush. Lightly brush Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Rich Sable into the crease. Line eyes with liquid liner. Apply Colorstay Liquid Liner in Blackest Black and wing it out for a “cateye” effect. The line is a bit thick. Take a pencil liner and line bottom lashes halfway. I like the Matte Luxirious Color Kohl Eyeliner in Black Truffle. Apply tons of mascara or faux lashes to top lashline. Use a light, maybe one coat of mascara to bottom lashes. Line lips with Colorstay Lipliner in Mauve. Apply Matte Lipstick in Mauve It Over for lighter complexions or Fabulous Fig for darker complexions. Blot and you’re ready and quite enchanting I may add.

So I really don’t expect for many people to go out in this. I sure wish I could but even I have limits so I am giving an “everyday” interpretation of this look. I must add that I have a bit of a Liz Taylor as Cleopatra complex. I love the makeup. I wear this much many days if you exclude the wild brows. I love the blunt bangs. And I would love to wear the braids and beads if I didn’t end up looking too much like Rick James. I love the jewelry. I collect snake jewelry and I would dare to wear a snake cuff on my flabby arm.

To get this look you need a super matte face. Apply a powder foundation like MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. Try a full coverage like Beneft Boi-Ing in your shade. Brows are filled in and dark if you so desire. For black Cleopatra brows, apply Billion Dollar Brows Brow Powder in Raven, a soft black. Apply a nice shadow primer like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin. Pat gently. I would go with an eyeshadow palette like Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ludwig available at Sephora. Apply Downtown which is a medium brown shimmer from lashline to brows. Take Baroque, a bronzey brown shimmer and apply from lashline to just above the crease and blend. Take Lucifer, the matte charcoal black, and blend into the crease and down with a very heavy hand. (I must add that these shadows are pretty nice quality and make for lots of nice smoky, Cleopatra eyes). Now to the heavy amounts of black eyeliner. I recommend a gel formula like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink. Line the top eye with line and extend as far as you feel comfortable with. This line should be pretty thick when applied above the lashline. Line the bottom lashline with the gel liner and extend until it meets the top extended line. Join the lines together for that special Egyptian inspired look. Apply false lashes or tons of mascara to complete the eye look. Cheeks are super nude. Apply a sheer nude powder like Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Nude. Lips are nude and matte. If you have a warm skin tone apply Revlon Matte Lipstick in Nude Attitude. If you have a cool skin tone apply Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Lip Gloss in Defeaning Silence. You may want to apply a clear lip balm before you wear such a nude shades to keep lips from looking too splotchy. Fragrance should be luxe and exotic and that is why I would recommend L’Occitane Eau d’Iparie EDT.

Weekly Cheap Secret:

I am really impressed with Revlon’s Matte Collection. Matte cosmetics seem to come and go as fads. Many companies do not offer matte products at all. You have to expand out to MAC, Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever, and some actual theatrical brands. Don’t get me wrong, I love shimmer. But I think matte cosmetics really add some depth to shimmery looks. I don’t like a completely matte face, too airbrushed senior picture. But, I do like a deep, matte eggplant used in the crease with a shimmery gold shadow. Or silver glitzy eyes with really matte red lips. Revlon has offered a pretty decent selection of matte cosmetics for a good price. Since these are drugstore cosmetics I haven’t been able to play in all of them. Out of what I have tried, I like.

EYES: The Matte Eyeshadows are very nice and come in a range from super neutral to really bright. This a nice budget friendly alternative to Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadows. There are nine: Vintage Lace (soft off white), Peach Sorbet (pale peachy nude), Pink Innocence (pale pink), Luscious Lime (vivid lime), Venetian Blue (bright electric blue, move on over MAC Electric Eel!), Tempting Teal (deep blue-ish forest green, think Douglas Fir Tree needles, would be amazing mixed with silver or baby blue), Rich Sable (warm deep brown), Riveria Blue (deep midnight sea blue), and Aubergine (dusty, deep eggplant purple, so luxe). I can’t complain about any of the shades. The lighter shades are must have bases for light complexions. The bright colors are so fun. The deep ones will make great smoky eyes or liners. They retail for $4.99 and you get more than what is in a MAC pan. There are 5 Kohl Eyeliners: Pure White (eye opening white), Black Truffle (a deep and mysterious black), Rich Mink (deep chocolate), Midnight Blue (deep navy), and Very Violet (a vivid and electric medium purple). The eyeliners feel nice and soft. They create that “mysterious” eye. They are easy to blend. They go for under $10.

LIPS: The Matte Lipstick is hot. All I really need is a matte nude, matte red, and a matte milky pink. All are offered! There is Nude Attitude which is a really pale nude. It reminds me of MAC Fleshpot or MAC Freckletone. This shade looks amazing with dark eyes. There is Pink Pout which is a white-ish 60’s pink. This looks much like my all time favorite shade, MAC Snob, my wedding day shade. Wear with gray shadow and it is beautiful. There is a lovely every day mauve, Mauve It Over. Pink About It and Strawberry Suede are both bright summer pink. I love both reds. They are classic. There is Really Red which is a bright warm red and In The Red which is a cooler red. I love Really Red, it is almost orange. There is Cocoa Craving and Fabulous Fig both are pretty ho-hum neutrals. There is a beautiful gothic deep wine, Wine Not. I wish I knew about this one this past fall and winter. These go for under $7.

FACE: There are four matte powder blushes. There is a light pink, Rose Rapture. There is a medium hued berry, Blushing Berry. There is a sweet pale peach, Perfectly Peach. And there is the must needed neutral, Barely Buff. These are nice because sometimes you just don’t feel like having glittery cheeks. These go for under $10.

There are many fun colors and everyday colors in this collection. The prices are pretty nice. And since they are drusgstore cosmetics there are always coupons, deals such as BOGO, or on clearance.

Maybe it is because I am a closet goth. But, I love the cool toned grapey purple lip look. I love a matte purple with really minimal eye makeup. I love the blue-ish tinted lip whitening sheer violet lip glosses with loud pink eyes. I love a purple hued lip stain with warm, coral eyes. I love it all. But, seriously, this is a difficult shade to wear and a difficult shade to find. It is so frustrating. So that is why I am sharing what I have found with you.

Lipstick: I love a purple lipstick look with minimal eye makeup. That bare even, mascara less look, if the purple is deep enough. I also like it in an 80’s way if the eyes are done a nice, light baby pink with a medium toned purple lip. I have even mixed an almost white purple lipstick for myself to wear with dark, dark eyes. I looked a bit dead but hey, I’ll try anything in the name of fashion. I find that when I find a purple I like, I better buy it because chances are it won’t be around long. Rimmel made an amazing one. It was truly deep and purple but it was amazing because it had lots of silver shimmer. I bought like 10 tubes, which was good because I have never seen it since. It was like I purchased what all the company had. Dior used to have an amazing one too, but it is no more. Even MAC is lacking in this area. However, MAC has two deeper ones that I like. Cyber is a lovely almost black purple but it is very difficult to work with. It is a satin finish which is stupid. It is very difficult to keep uniformed even with foundation on the lips. It wants to gather in certain areas. Your lips have to be flawless and baby bottom soft for it to wear evenly too. But man, once you get it to work it looks amazing. I also like Rebel which is a more on the berry side or purple. It looks nice with that nude eye makeup look. NYX has a pretty good purple selection. They have in their Black Label the shade Seductive which is a medium purple. They have a super shimmery shade in the Diamond Sparkle Lipstick, Sparkling Orchid. This one is a bit to berry pink on me but if you put a black gloss over it, it looks amazing. In their classic formula they have a few nice shades: Orpheus which is a muted grape, Pandora which is a flashy magenta violet, and Iced Lavender which is a super pale and shimmery purple that looks great over other shades. NYX has a great Lipstick Pencil in Vixen which is a deep, dark and gothic purple. Manic Panic has a few goth friendly shades in Black Rose which is a deep, deep purple berry matte and Tramp which is a medium purple matte. Since these are matte, the lips must be very smooth. They have a beautiful pearly purple in Plum Passion. Black Radiance has two nice Perfect Tone Lipsticks in Go Girl Grape which is a grape Kool-Aid and Majesty which is more of a berry kissed plum. Sometimes Sephora brand gets nice pure purple shades. Currently they have Lip Attitue Star in Audaciaous Violet and Plum Vertigo (what is so glam about vertigo anyways?) Victoria’s Secret has an easy to wear pink purple in their Perfect Lipstick in Stiletto. I call it the “work” purple.

Lip Gloss: MAC has a Lipgelee in Moistly which really isn’t much of a purple, but more of a berry. It is very sheer and looks nice with rust eye makeup. NYX has a Sheer Gloss in Lavender Note which is a pale lavender shimmer. It wears nicely over pinks. There are two nice NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Purple Rain a lovely pure purple and Orchid which is another one of those berry, fuchsia hybrids. There is a NYX Sheer Tube Lip Gloss in Lilac which reminds me of MAC’s Moistly. Black Radiance has a nice sheer lipstick in Vogue Vixen but because of my pale skin and the fact that this is sheer it looks a little too pink on me. Stila has a Lip Glaze in Black Cherry this is a bright orchid purple fuchsia shade. Shu Uemura has an amazing Gloss Unlimited Lip Gloss in PR 059 N, it is a deep and shimmery royal purple. It looks amazing alone or layered over those pinkish purple lipsticks to make them more purpley. Shu Uemura also has a super sheer lip gloss glaze in the Gloss Lacquer in Irrational Purple. It is just a hint of purple and looks nice with deep, dark eyes.

Lip Pencil: MAC has an OK Lip Pencil in Magenta which is a vivid pinkish purple. It looks nice colored in the entire lip with a frosty pinkish gloss over it. NYX has the Long Pencil in Deep Purple and the Slim Pencil in Deep Purple and Purple Rain. These are my favorite and the most budget friendly. Manic Panic has two nice lip pencils in Deadly Nightshade which is a deep and dark purple and Ultra Violet which is a vivid purple. Max Factor has a High Definition Lipliner in Purple. I also find that a cheap little eyeliner does the same thing.

Purple lips are hard to find and you ever find one please let me know. I usually find them in cheaper brands (NYX, Wet N Wild), brands made for woman of “color” (Black Radiance, Iman, Fashion Fair) and sometimes super high end French makeup will launch one (Dior, YSL, Guerlain.) It’s weird. I just really want a super dark purple lipstick dipped in tons of gold shimmer. And I can’t find it!
