This is such an easy but polished look to pull off. It’s all about glowing skin and a bold but not brash lip. To get this look…

FACE: I would leave skin very sheer and just apply a highlighting cream/liquid such as Chanel Soleil de Tan de Chanel. I would use my fingertips to apply to the cheek bones to above the brow bones in a large “C” motion and down the nose. Cover up any “problem spots” with a concealer like CoverGirl Invisible Cream Concealer. Eartha’s skin is very dewy in this picture. Most people don’t like this look, I do, but if it bothers you apply concealer, oil-free pressed powder, then apply the illuminating cream/liquid. For a hint of color, apply a shimmery plum such as CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Snow Plum to the apples of cheeks. Apply a small amount with a fluffy, medium-sized brush.

EYES: Brows are filled in and brushed into perfection. Fill in brows with a brow pencil in a brown shade such as Benefit Cosmetics Insta Brow Pencil. Brush in place with the spoolie on the other end of the pencil. With a large, fluffy shadow brush apply a shimmery taupe shade such as NYX Single Eye Shadow in Taupe from lash line to brows. Curl lashes and apply a do-it-all mascara such as Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara in black. Apply about 2 coats to top lashes and one coat to bottom lashes. The eyes are very bare for this look.

LIPS: Apply a lush shade such as MAC Lipstick in Plumful, a rosey plum.

If I had to choose a scent for this look, I’d have to go for Guerlain Iris Ganache EDP, a gourmand iris.

Josephine was such a beautiful and talented person making her a perfect icon. This is an ad for her hair product. Here look would look amazing on anyone with warm undertones. Here’s how to get this look:

FACE: Apply a concealer if needed. I love the creaminess of Lancome Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer. Apply a powder foundation such as MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. With a powder foundation, no finishing powder is really needed. Josephine’s cheeks are pretty bare. For myself, I would need a little bit of color. Apply a powder bronzer such as Clinique True Bronze Bronzer Powder in your appropriate shade to cheeks. This adds a bit of color and keeps the lipstick from “washing” you out.

EYES: In true theatrical 20’s fashion, eye brows are drawn on pencil thin. Fill in or in Josephine’s case, draw in, brows. Try a product like Covergirl Expert Eyes Brow Pencil. The formula is a bit waxy but it does come in deeper colors. For a “candlelit” glow, apply a slightly shimmery cream shadow such as Too Faced Lockdown Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow. There are two shades of the very neutral Lovey Dovey. Choose the color that suits you. The cream shadow will help “hold” the other shadows that you will use. Choose a medium shimmery bronze such as Vincent Longo Wet Diamond Eyeshadow in Temptest Bronze. Apply this from the lash line to the crease. With eyes open, apply this bronze shade slightly “winging” out. Use the motion that you would use for cateyed liquid liner except at your crease instead of lash line. Take a deep brown shadow such as Jane Eye Zing Super Smooth Shadow in Browny Points. Apply it in the same way as the bronze except stopping just below the copper. Blend. Keep adding until you get your desired variation of a cateyed smoky eyed look. Here’s a trick for this. Take a square of TP and fold it like a triangle. Use this is a template for your shade. Hold this triangle at the outer edge of your lash line in a 45 degree angle. Brush on the shadow. You’ll get an exaggerated look and it will keep the dark colors from getting all over your face. Take a dark brown pencil liner such as Avon Ultra Luxury Eye Liner in Dark Brown and apply it to the upper lash line thickly and winging out. Apply this liner to the bottom lash line and inside the rim. Connect the top and bottom “lines”. Apply a nice mascara such as MAC Pro Lash to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Apply a rust colored lip liner such as Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Rust around your natural lip line. Apply a sheer burnt red lipstick such as Lipstick Queen Lipstick in Rust Saint. Apply a warm coral lip gloss to lips such as MAC Tinted Lipglass in Light That Fire, a coral with gold shimmer.

Crazylilbellule & The Poppies has a Josephine inspired scent in their Les Garçonnes collection: Joséphine Jonquille. It’s a lush blend of jasmine and gourmand dark chocolate.

More Josephine pics here.

Androgyny but with lots and lots of makeup. I guess that was one of the few good things about the 80’s. Don’t be scared to lay it on thick.

FACE: Cover up imperfections with an all around concealer like MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer in your shade. Face is matte (and I am sure shades lighter). I love MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Apply a hot pink powder blush such as Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Blush in Hot Pink.

EYES: Brush brows into place and fill them in with a soft, powdery brow pencil like Lancome Le Crayon Poudre. The colors needed for lids include a soft cream like Origins Eyeshadow in Cream Tulle, a medium plum such as MAC Eyeshadow in Plum Dressing, a burgundy like MAC Eyeshadow in Sketch, and a black or a burgundy black like MAC Eyeshadow in Beauty Marked. Apply the cream shade all over. From lash line to lid crease apply the plum/magenta. Also line the bottom lash line with this shade. In the crease with eyes open, apply the burgundy. With a crease brush apply the darkest shade, making a sideways “v”. Take this dark shade and apply halfway on the bottom lash line in the outer corners. Take the cream and blend into the lid towards the corner closest to your nose. Blend and blend until you get the look you want. Take a pitch black eye liner like Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyeliner and line top lash line halfway to make lashes appear fuller. Apply lots and lots of black mascara.

LIPS: Lips have full-coverage with a glossy raspberry shade. So make sure they are exfoliated and moisturized ahead of time. Line lips with a raspberry shade like Prescriptives Deluxe Lip Pencil in Raspberry. Apply a slightly glossy raspberry lipstick like Physcian’s Formula Plump Potion Lipstick in Raspberry Potion. Apply a shimmery pink lip gloss like Lancome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Raspberry Glimmer to the center of your bottom lip.

Françoise Hardy has it all. Talent, brains, beauty. That’s why she is one of my favorite style icons. When I had my blunt bangs and a haircut much like this one, I used to wear heavy eye makeup like this. It was such a cool look. The eyeliner isn’t easy if you’ve never done it before. I suggest practice. Once you get it down, you can get this look in under 10 minutes from my experience. These are the products that I use to get this look:

FACE: The complexion is pretty fuss-less but it needs to be evened out. Apply concealer if and where needed. Clinique All About Eyes Concealer does great under the eyes. I like to use MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation to even out the entire complexion. Use a bronzer as blush and apply with a fluffy brush. I like the shade and price of Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Light.

EYES:
Luckily my blunt bangs covered my messy brows. Brush less than perfect brows into place with a clear brow gel like Revlon Brow Styling Gel. Apply a tinted eyeshadow base such as L’Oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base. This will keep your liner from budging. There are many products that you can use to get this thick liner look. I personally prefer the following: Clinique Water-Resistant Eye Liner in Natural Black (not pictured) or MAC Fluidline in Black Track. Both are very versatile items with no flaking or wandering. The Clinique one is a softer, matte black. The MAC one is a bit deeper and has a more consistent texture. First, “draw-in” your line. I line closely to the lashline and flick out like a classic cat-eye. Then under the crease I draw a desired line. I then fill it in with the liner on the brush. Everyone has a preferred liner brush. I am more comfortable with a fine point liner and not the slanted kind. It is all about what you are comfortable with. Remember to let it dry before blinking or completely opening lines. Sometimes I would take a shadow brush and apply a matte black shadow Larenim Eye Shadow in Ashes to Ashes to “set” it. You can also take the black powder shadow and line bottom lashes closely. Apply lots of black mascara like L’Oreal Voluminous Original Volume Building Mascara in Blackest Black.
LIPS: Lips are nude. If your lips have a bit of color and don’t appear washed out, just apply a slightly tinted lip balm like mark Tinted Sheenstick Lip Balm in Fanciful. If you need a bit of color use a color like Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Perfect Nude.

Such talent and style! I love Stevie Nicks. I find that she is one of my accidental style icons. Somebody that I’ll see a picture of and realize that I wore an outfit very similar without even knowing. It must be that closet gothness that we both share. To get this look:

FACE: First apply concealer where needed, Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Concealer. Apply a satin, light-weight foundation like Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Foundation in your shade. Dust a translucent powder over foundation to prolong wear and absorb oilies, Almay Pure Blend Loose Finishing Powder. Cheeks are very nude with a slight hint of color. Take a fluffy blush brush and apply a color like Estee Lauder Signature Silky Blush in Nude Rose.

EYES: Well, we really can’t see the brows in this picture but I can imagine that they are groomed into place with a clear wax like Anastasia Brow Fix Clear Wax Pencil. Eyes are all about looking awake and wide-eyed. Apply a slightly tinted eyeshadow base like Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Shadow Base all over the lid. From lash line to crease apply a white eyeshadow like Clarins Single Eyeshadow in White Marshmallow. Take a warm brown eyeshadow and lightly blend it into the crease and on the bottom lash line, something like Covergirl Eye Enhancers Eyeshadow in Brown Smolder. Apply a pencil eyeliner very closely to the top lash line in a dark brown shade. I like the smoothness of Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in Dark Chocolate. Apply a few coats of mascara to top lashes and one coat to bottom lashes, a formula like Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara will do.

LIPS: Lips are shiny and a rusty bronze shade. Apply a lip gloss in a bronze shade like Pur Minerals Pout Plumping Lip Gloss in Bronze Sassolite or Iman Luxury Lip Shimmer in Copper Tone (not pictured), whatever you use, it needs to be super glossy.

That’s it. Oh, don’t forget those finger tips! use something like SpaRitual Nail Lacquer in Inner Sanctum or Butter London Nail Lacquer in Aston (not pictured). I think this look demands an ambery perfume. I’m thinking something like Regina Harris Amber Vanilla Perfume Oil, doesn’t the bottle just look like something Stevie would have?

I love Dolly Parton, even made up and fake Dolly Parton. She’s a beautiful gal. I’m really loving her look on her “Hello, I’m Dolly” album cover. It’s a “natural” Dolly, not really how most of her think of her. This is a great look. I love a peachy lip.

FACE: Apply a foundation like Prescriptives Virtual Skin Super Natural Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer if needed to even out the complexion. I like Dior Diorskin Sculpt Concealer for the under eye area. Dust with powder if needed with something like Almay Pure Blends Loose Finishing Powder. Cheeks are peachy perfect. I love Shu Uemura Glow On Blush in Peach 44. It is the perfect matte, peach blush.

EYES: Sculpt brows into place with a clear brow gel. Boots No7 Lash & Brow Perfector is a nice bargain. Apply a nude shadow from lash line to brow. For Dolly’s complexion this would be something like Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace. Take a medium taupe shade like Covergirl Eye Enhancers in Tapestry Taupe, and blend from lash line to right above the crease. It helps to do this with your eyes open-ish looking ahead. Apply a thin line of brown eyeliner like Estee Lauder Automatic Eye Pencil in Walnut Brown, closely to the top lash line. Apply a few coats of a lengthening mascara to top and bottom lashes. I would use a Dark Brown or a Black/Brown such as Almay One Coat Nourishing Lengthening Mascara.

LIPS: Lips are peach, pearly, and nude. For a look like Dolly’s try Lancome Le Rouge Absolu Lipstick in Nectariche, one of my favorite shades ever. If you are a bit deeper or tan, try Covergirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Bronzed Peach Shimmer.

First of I love Joan’s hair on the album cover, so much so that a few years ago I brought it into the salon so that I too could sport this look. All products used for this look are MAC.

FACE: Apply concealer where needed. I like the ease of Select Cover Up because it is in a tube. Even out complexion with a powder foundation such as Studio Fix Foundation plus Powder. Apply just a bit of Powder Blush in Loverush, a sheer burgundy that gives a healthy flush.

EYES: Sculpt brows into place using Eye Brows eye pencil. For black brows like Joan’s use Velvetone. Apply Paint Pot in Fresco Rose as an eyeshadow base. Apply Eye Shadow in Of Summer, a pale mauve pink,  from lashline to brows. From the corner of the eye closest to the nose, take a brush and make a big “hook” shape with a magenta eyeshadow like Stars N’ Rockets. From lashline to crease blend Hepcat, a vivid wine. Take a creamy shadow like the Shadestick in Sharkskin, a smoky gray, and thickly line top and bottom lashes all the way around. Use the thickness of the Shadestick to your advantage! Apply a glittery black eye shadow like Black Tied over Sharkskin. Blend upwards and outwards for a smoky but still very bold look. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Pro Lash is supposed to do it all.

LIPS: Lips are no fuss and very natural. Apply a conditioning lip balm treatment like the Lip Conditioner Stick. So easy, no worries of smearing. Eat a hamburger! Kiss! No touching up!

If I had to choose a matching fragrance I would go for MV 3, it’s tough and sexy and very rock and roll with notes of jasmine, vanilla, and leather.

So who says we can’t take Robert Smith’s look and well, feminize it for our girly selves. I personally love it that he sports red lipstick. It sure is more striking than black lipstick on his alabaster perfect skin. First, skin should be even and pale. Apply concealer where needed. If you need foundation apply that too. Apply a fun powder such as Papier Poudré powder sheet in White. It kind of mimics a nice gothic complexion without being startling. Brush brows into place with a clear brow gel or brow wax such as MAC Brow Finisher in Clear. Apply a matte white eye shadow from lashline to brow bone such as Manic Panic Powder Eyeshadow in Virgin. Line eyes with a nice, thick black eyeliner like Benefit Bad Gal. Line the upper and lower lashline with a heavy, messy hand. It’s a very Liz Taylor as Cleopatra cateye, ancient Egyptian look. Apply black mascara or apply false lashes. Lips are lush and red. Line lips with a red lip pencil. I don’t care what anybody tells you. Red lip liner is a must. Line lips with Manic Panic Lip Liner in Vampire Red (this also doubles as an interesting eyeliner.) Apply a cherry, pure, blood red lipstick with a hint of satin, something like Milani Velvet Lips Lipstick in Red Carpet. Apply a nice coat of clear lip gloss. There are tons of these on the market and for a cheap price Maybelline Shiny-Licious Lip Gloss in Berry Clear isn’t too bad. Robert has decided to go blushless. That’s OK. I would love to slap a nice hot pink hue on his milky white skin but I don’t think he will let me. Tossle hair into a ragged mess and blast with aerosol hairspray if you dare and but on a nice sultry unisex fragrance like Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur de Male. So, it isn’t unisex but it might as well be, just like this look.

It is time to mod-ify your look. This look is super simple but really glam. No wonder Urban Outfitters is obsessed with this look.

First apply a tinted moisturizer to even out the complexion. I really like Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Teinte Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30. Use a concealer where needed, if you are like me you can not live without it under the eye area. I love Prescriptives Site Unseen Concecelear. Illuminate skin with Guerlain Meteorites for the Face in Mythic. Love this stuff. Brows are simple and pretty much clean but undefined. Brush brows with Dior Brow Gel in Clear. Use a nude shadow from lashline to brow, something like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Maui Wowie. Line eyes with a matte cake liner such as NVEY ECO Organic Cake Eyeliner in Black. Wet a thin liner brush and dip in the eyeliner. Line and it won’t budge once it is dry. Coat lashes with a black mascara of your choice. Make sure to coat bottom lashes for this mod eyed look. Dab Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Gloss in Deafening Silence onto cheeks with fingertips. Also use this on lips for a simple and polished look. Fragrance should be simple and “tonic-ish”. I say go for something like Hermes (how appropriate for Jane!) Us Jardin Apres Le Mousson, it’s lovely and unisex.
