Jane is one of my favorite blondes. This gal was never dressed down. This made her a star. Jane’s classic look here is perfect for all complexions, hair colors, eye colors, etc. in my opinion. It’s about false lashes and bold, matte lips.

FACE: Jane’s complexion is perfection in this look. Apply concealer where needed. I like the long-wearing formula of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer. Apply a satin foundation like MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation. Dust with a loose powder. I like Lancome Absolue Powder because it isn’t “dry” looking. It helps with a glowing complexion look and to keep foundation smooth. Apply a pink blush to cheeks such as Covergirl Classic Color Blush in Rose Silk. I really do love this color and its price.

EYES: Jane’s brows look great. To get a similar look, apply a brow pencil such as Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in a shadow for your complexion. Brush brows with a brow brush. Apply a buttery yellow shadow to the entire eye lid area. If you prefer a powder try BareMinerals Eye Shadow in Soul, a creamy beige shadow. If you like cream, try Benefit Lemon Aid. Thickly apply a liquid liner to top lash line, about 75%, not the entire top lash line. I like Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Brown Black. You’ll really need false lashes to get more of the “exact” look. I would apply individual lashes or half lashes to the top lashes, really emphasizing the outer portion. Everyone has their own way of doing this. Apply mascara to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Since this is a matte lipstick look, lips should be flake free. Scrub and apply lip balm thickly to lips hours before. Apply a simple, matte pencil such as NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. Color in the lines. I also like MAC Lipstick in Impassioned for this look. The formula is an amplified cream. It’s satin, just a little bit more glossy and “forgiving” than a full-blown matte.

I love a rusty colored lip. And can one go wrong with retro cateyes? Nope.

To get beautiful Märta Torén’s look:

FACE: Marta’s complexion is flawless. Apply concealer where needed. Shiseido Concealer Stick can cover anything from blemishes to undereye circles. Follow up with foundation. Try a mousse foundation like Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. This is a nice formula and it looks great if you buff it after applying with a “buff” brush. Lightly dust a translucent powder over the face. I love MAC Select Sheer Loose Powder. Apply a coral/orange powder blush to cheeks. Take a fluffy brush and apply Paul & Joe Face Color in Moroccan Orange to light-medium skin tones or a shade like Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow Cheek Color in Fira (a mango orange, not pictured) for medium-dark skin tones.

EYES: Marta’s eyebrows are amazing. To get a similar look, make sure everything is cleaned up, tweeze and tweeze. Take a brow pencil that is slightly powdery such as my all time favorite Lancome Le Crayon Poudre (not pictured) in your shade. Fill in brows and brush into place with the spoolie on the end. Shadow is matte and neutral. All  you need are the colors that are in NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Portabello. Apply the lightest shade from lash line to brow bone. With eyes open, apply the darker shade in the compact above the crease. Blend until it looks completely seamless. Next we go to the cat eyes. Get a black gel liner like Bobbi Brown Long-Wearing Gel Liner in Caviar Ink. Take the liner brush of your choice, for me this is a fine liner art brush and apply to the top lash line and wing out. I do this with my eyes slightly open and “tugging” it into place with the other hand. Apply false lashes or a few coats of a lengthening mascara such as L’Oreal Lash Out Lengthening and Separating Mascara in Black. Apply 1-2 coats to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are a soft rusty orange. Apply concealer around lips to keep color from feathering. Make sure to blend thoroughly. Apply a rusty golden shade like Lancome Color Design Lipcolor in Groupie, a great color of orange red and gold shimmer (this would look better on deeper skintones). Another great color if you want more orange is Lancome Color Designe Lipcolor in Studded. Studded is more Marta-ish. I apologize for the crummy pictures. The colors are much more vivid and lovely in real life. Apply a sheer gold lip gloss to bottom lips for a plump effect. I recommend Lipstick Queen Shine in Gold Saint.

Choosing a fragrance has been hard for this “look”. I’d have to go with Byredo Parfums Pulp. Perhaps because of the “Swedish” influences?

burgundyliners

I love burgundy or wine eyeliners for hazel, green, and brown eyes. I have blue eyes and still really love them but I do have to watch out for the undertones in the wine shade or I will look like I have wine-o eyes. When paired with a pale, nude lip, it is a sexy look. Here is a guide to a few burgundy liners ranging in formulas and in prices.

Budget Burgundy Liners (Under $12): Rimmel Special Eyes Precision Eye Liner Pencil in Burgundy is a wooden pencil liner in a burgundy shade. The color is pretty but I found the formula a bit waxy and that I had to use the body heat from my finger tips to soften it. It retails for about $3.50. Sephora Long Lasting Metallic Eyeliner in Aubergine (not pictured) is a long wearing metallic burgundy plum that goes for $10. mark Eyemarker Color On Line in Wine (not pictured) is a retractable and smooth wearing wine/burgundy shade that goes for about $5.50. It is my favorite out of the budget list.

More Expensive Burgundy Liners: L’Oreal Hip Kohl Liner in Burgundy is a deep burgundy shimmer powder. I really like this formula since it reminds me of Guerlain Kohl eye liner but much cheaper and in a wider variety of colors. It retails for about $13 and can be used as a shadow as well. It will create a beautiful merlot smoky eye. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Eye Liner in Now (not pictured) is a plum burgundy mineral powder liner. It retails for $13. It is a beautiful color and the formula provides a softer, more natural finish. Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner in Turbo Lover is a liquid liner with a plummy wine base that is warmed by bronze sparkles. This color really works well with blue eyes because the warm undertones make the eyes really pop. It retails for $16. Yves Saint Laurent Dessin du Regard Haute Tenue Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Shimmering Burgundy (not pictured) is a deep burgundy in a soft easy to use pencil. It retails for $28. Laura Mercier Liquid Eye Liner in Bordeaux is a long wearing metallic liner that goes for $22. DuWop Smoke in Plum Wine contains a burgundy cake eyeliner and a deep purple shadow to create a sexy smoky eye. It retails for $28. Make Up For Ever Flash Color in Wine (not pictured) is a highly pigmented cream that can be used a liner. Wine is a red-ish shade so watch if you have too much red in the whites of your eyes. You could end up looking monstrous. It goes for $18. MAC has a few burgundy liners. I like Liquidlast Liner in Powerplum because it is a purpley plum with red shimmer in a liquid form. I love the addition of the shimmer. It goes for $16.50. The other one is the versatile Technakohl Liner in Purple Dash which is a reddish aubergine that goes for $14.50 (both aren’t pictured).

silverliners

Sometimes I get hung up on finding a product. I’m still searching for the perfect deep, matte purple full-coverage lipstick and a perfect yellow shimmer eyeshadow that doesn’t come across as gold. The other day it was silver eyeliner. Luckily, there are many options out there. I love silver eyeliner when it is used to “open” up the eyes (pencil formulas). I also love it as the “first” layer with a thinner stripe of black liquid liner applied below it. I love silver with deep, dramatic lips. Here is what I came across as I went “shopping”.

Cheaper (under $10): Avon’s mark Metalliner Hook Up Eye Glam in Quick Silver is a liquid silver eyeliner. It’s cheap and is nice if you only occasionally want a silver eyeliner like for a night out. I found that it only wore for about a work day (8 hours) and then flaked really, really bad. It retails for $5.50. NYX has a Liquid Liner in Silver that goes for $5. There is also a NYX Longwearing Eye Pencil in Silver that goes for $2. It’s a very nice pencil for the price. Sephora brand has a Nano Eyeliner in Precious Silver for $5 (not pictured). It’s a smaller pencil but not a bad formula. And Sephora Brand has a liquid, foiled silver liner, Long Lasting Metallic Eyeliner in Silver. It goes for $10 and has that classic liquid liner felt tip. Another cheaper liquid liner option is Boots Stay Perfect Eye Liner in Star for about $9 (not pictured). L’Oreal Hip Color Chrome Eyeliner in Silver Lighting is a nice Urban Decay substitute. It goes for $10. Manic Panic Metallic Eyeliner in Silver Stardust is a silver pencil liner for under $9.

More Expensive: Diane Brill Eye Jewelry Liquid Eyeliner Lace Diamonds is a shimmery, long wearing formula with a fine brush. It retails for $24. Shu Uemura has 2 great silver eyeliners in different formulas. There is the Painting Liner in Silver. This is a long wearing waterproof formula. What I like about it is that you get to use your favorite liner brush and you can use this as a shadow if you apply it with a shadow brush or fingertips. It goes for $24. If you prefer a super smooth pencil there is Drawing Pencil in ME Silver 06 that retails for $19. There is Prescriptives Moonbeam Reflective Eyeliner in Beaming Silver for $17.50 (not pictured). I love Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil formula and there just so happens to be a silver called Dime for $17 (not pictured). Another one in the same price point and similiar long-wearing formula is Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Silver for $17 (not pictured). If you are looking for a more “natural” eye liner in a silver try Korres Soft Eyeliner Pencil in Silver. It’s nice for sensitive eyes and goes for $16 (not pictured). If you are looking for a silver glitter in a silver base try NARS Glitter Pencil Eyeliner in Roxbury. It retails for $24 (not pictured). And if you want the same thing but in a liquid base try Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner in Love Metal for $16 (not pictured). If you want a silver cream liner in a spooky packaging try Manic Panic Spider Liner in Stardust. It retails for under $17 (not pictured).

Oh, Jane Fonda, one of my favorite blondes. This is a simple look really. Just remember it is all about the eyes. This is a look that works well with most pale/light to medium complexions with the products mentioned below:

FACE: Apply concealer where needed. For me, this is applied under the eyes and I like Prescriptives Site Unseen Brightening Concealer. Apply a matte foundation like Estee Lauder Fresh Air Makeup Up Base if you like liquid or Maybelline Pure Stay Powder Foundation (not pictured) if you prefer a powder. Cheeks are super sheer with the faintest hint of a flush. Use a tiny bit of Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting. I love this color and formula for a faintly flushed look.

EYES: Fill in brows with an easy-blending powder and brush into place with a wax. Urban Decay Brow Box is a great product for this. The colors in Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Eyeshadow Quad in Sueded Browns are nice for this eye. Take the lightest shade, a pale beige, and apply all over the eye lid from lash line to brow. Take the medium brown shade and apply from lash  line to crease. In the crease, apply the darkest espresso brown shade and blend with a nice blending brush. Take this same dark shade and apply it to the bottom lash line with a fine brush. Apply more of this shade to the crease and go as dramatic as you feel comfortable with. Next apply a liquid liner such as MAC Liquid Liner in Boot Black. Apply a thick line and wing out slightly. Curl lashes and apply mascara but to get the real deal look, apply a strip of false lashes like Ardell. Coat bottom lashes with mascara.

LIPS: The lips are super nude and almost look like concealer applied over the lips with a balm added. You could use a color like NYX Round Lipstick in Iced Honey or Chambord for a beige-ish nude color or B-52 if you want a little more pink, OK much more pink but still have that 60’s nude lip. Sorry, I have no pic of these but they are in my own collection and I love them for these kind of looks.

I really think that this looks needs a fresh, green, citrus scent such as Prescriptives Calyx. I really need to pick up a new one of these, almost out.

janefondalook

Is there a name that is more synonymous with man killing than Zsa Zsa Gabor? No. This lady knows glamour to the point that is comical. I know I love her for it. I purchased “How to Catch a Man, How to Keep a Man, and How to Get Rid of Man” for my cousin many years ago. She’s a mega lesbian now. Hope it wasn’t because of something I said. 🙂

To get the ultra glam look of Zsa Zsa you need ultra glamorous makeup such as Guerlain and YSL.

First apply foundation. You want a dewey finish so try something like YSL Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation. Apply Concealer where needed. Try Touche Eclat. If powder is needed, apply Guerlain Les Violettes Matte Touch Powder. Cheeks are very nude. You could go without blush, but if you are like me and need it. Apply YSL Touche Blush in Sienna to the apples of cheeks. I personally don’t like the sponge applicator and I like to open the top and use a brush to apply the blush.

The eyes are fairly simple. Use YSL Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil in your shade to define brows and brush into place with the spoolie on the end. Apply YSL Ombres DuoLumieres Eyeshadow Duo in Golden Sand-Brown Earth. Take the lightest shade and apply from lashline to brows. Take the darker shade and blend thoroughly into the crease. Line eyes with black liquid eyeliner such as YSL L’Eyeliner Noir and slightly wing out for a cateye effect. Curl lashes. I would recommend applying faux lashes but you can use a mascara such as Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara.

The lips are what make this look. Apply lip liner. I’m old school. I love the stuff. Apply Guerlain Lip Liner in Corail Precieux. Apply Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in Red Strass which is a shimmery red. Apply Guerlain KissKiss Lip Gloss in Coral Pearl for extra shine. I also like to take the YSL Touche Eclat and blend into the bow of the lips for an extra pouty and refined look. Finish with a sexy fragrance such as Guerlain Samsara for a finished man killing look.

It is no secret. I think everybody knows that I love redheads. This does not exclude the spunky Agnes Moorehead. Wig or no wig, I loved her look on Bewitched. I only hope that one day I’ll be as fabulous as she was.

To get the look, apply a dewy foundation such as Kevyn Aucoin The Dew Drop Powder Foundation in your shade.Apply an illuminating concealer where needed. I love Dior SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen. Lightly dust with a powder such as Shiseido The Makeup Enriched Loose Powder (it is sooo smooth). Apply a bronzey shade to cheeks. I recommend Benefit Dallas (and this powder strangely looks great on redheads).

Pencil brows with a pencil in your shade. I like Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil. Use the spoolie to brush brows into place. Apply a pearly white shadow such as Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Glimmer Eye Shadow in Ecstasy from lashline to brows. Then, from lashline to crease brush Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Eye Shadow in Skyline or a lilac-y steel shade. Apply above the crease if needed for extra drama. Line eyes with liquid liner. I love Lancome Artliner in Noir. Use a heavy hand and wing out. Apply tons of black mascara or false lashes. It is your preference.

Lips are bronzey. Line with a pencil such as Lancome Le Lipstique in Fraichelle. Apple Lancome Color Design Lip Color in Sugared Maple, a must have shade for natural or dyed redheads. Lightly dab a lip gloss in the center of lips for a plumping effect. I would try a warm shade such as Bare Escentuals Buxom Lip Gloss in Isabella, a copper.

I imagine Agnes wearing a cozy scent such as Tom Ford White Patchouli.

All items can be purchased on sephora.com.

This is the look that will never grow old. Thick, heavy eye makeup and nude lips will always scream sexy. To get Faye’s look using Stila products,  apply a sheer foundation such as Stila Natural Finish Oil-Free Makeup and Stila Perfecting Concealer where needed. Lightly dust face with a loose powder such as Stila Hydrating Finishing Powder in your shade. Brush brows into place with just a hint of color with Stila Brow Polish in your shade. Apply the lightest shade from the Stila Eye Shadow Duo in Salome, this is a light warm shimmer, from lashline to brow bone. With the eyes open, blend the darker shade (the warm bronze) above the crease. Take the darker shade and lightly line the bottom lashline. Black “cat” eye makeup is a must. Apply Stila Liquid Liner in Black and extend out from the lashline. Now, take a dark shade such as the matte black from their Matte Eye Shadow, Makalu. Take a stiff liner brush and line over the liquid liner, blending up for a slightly smoky eye. Take the same liner brush and line the bottom lashes half way. This creates that “mysterious” eye look. Apply lots of black mascara such as Stila Major Lash Mascara. Cheeks are super nude. Apply the Stila Convertible Color in Peony. A little goes a long way for this look. Also, to make life even easier, you can apply the Convertible Color to lips with fingertips for a nude, matte lip look. If you want a little more sheen, Stila Lip Color in Emily is a nice nude. Or you can just apply a balm over the Convertible Color.

I love Tura Satana. She is the reason for my haircut. She is one of my favorite style icons. She is one lovely bad-ass, the queen of the 60s B-films. One thing that Tura rocked other than ass kicking moves, the perfect body, blunt bangs, and an amazing attitude, was the heavy black liner. Every time I use a heavy hand with black liner, I think of Miss Satana’s oh so delicious evil look.

There are a ton of black liner formulas on the market. They all have a time and a place. I love khol and pencils for smudging and gel and liquid for that harsh unmovable cat eye.

Swivel Sticks/Retractable: Swivel type liners are so easy to use. You don’t even have to sharpen these babies. They usually wear longer than most pencil liners and they come in unmovable waterproof formulas. It produces a precise line. My favorite budget one is Avon Glimmerstick in Blackest Black. This one goes for $6 and usually is on sale for much less. My more expensive choice is Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof in Noir. This one sells for $23.50. Other notable pencils include: mark Eyemarker Color On Line in Jet for $5.50 and MAC makes a very nice one for about $14.

Wooden Kind/Sharpen: These are a much softer formula that can be smudged for a khol rimmed effect. These need sharpened and can create either a paper thin line or a fatter line that looks wonderful with shadow layered over it. My favorite budget one is Jordana Eyeliner in Black. It sells for .69¢. I was seriously surprised by this product. The quality is actually really good. The more expensive one that I prefer is the MAC Eye Pencil in Ebony which retails for $13. The other note worthy liners in this category include: Estee Lauder’s Artist Pencil in Softsmudge Black for  $18.50, L’Oreal Le Kohl Pencil for $8,and NYX Long Pencil in Black for $2.

Long Wearing Sharpening Kind: These are usually budge proof and set within 30 seconds. They are easy to use like the retractable liner but these have the benefit of creating a thin or thick line just like the softer wooden types. The budget one that I prefer is Sephora Flashy Liner in Black for $8 . I really love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide Eye Pencil in Zero. It is very long wearing. It retails for $16. Other notable ones include: Dior Waterproof Crayon Liner in Trinidad Black for $25, Prescriptives Moonbeam Eyeliner in Reflective Black for $17.50,

Cake Eyeliner: These are solid powders that when mixed with water create a matte (typically) long wearing, crisp line. Just wet a liner brush of your choice and swipe of the powder. I love this stuff because it is really classic. Plus I love my art store liner brush so much. It just works for me. I love Clinique Water-Resistant Eyeliner in Natural Black and it is the cheaper option at $14.50. My more expensive fave is Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeliner in Midnight Caviar which goes for $22. Others that are nice: NVY ECO Organic Cake Liner in Black which is $24, Elizabeth Arden Dual Perfection Brow Shaper & Eye Liner in Black for $18, or wet NYX Single Eyeshadow in Black for $5

Liquid Liner: Liquid liners are long wearing and create a very crisp line. It is that classic cateye look. These come with fine brush tip applicators and pointed sponge tip applicators. The handles vary so this is a matter of preference for what works best for you. Personally I like the sponge tip kind. I can create a more even line, either fatter or thinner. My favorite budget sponge tip liner is L’Oreal Telescopic Precision Eyeliner in Carbon Black which goes for about $9. My more expensive favorite sponge tip applicator is Lancome Artliner in Noir which retails for $28. (L’Oreal’s is almost identical to Lancome’s for much less.) The budget brush type that I like is NYX Liquid Liner in Black for $5.  The brush type I like is Clinique Eye Defining Liquid Liner in Black for $14.50.  Honorable mentions: Almay Liquid Line in Black for $7.50, MAC Liquid Liner in Boot Black for $16.50, Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Liner for $19.50, Covergirl Line Exact Liquid Liner Pen in Black for $6.50, and Manic Panic Dreamliner in Raven for $9.50.

Gel Liners: Gel liners are pretty fool proof and look more natural than liquid liners. They are long wearing and don’t take too long to dry so you don’t have to worry about smudging. However, these can be smudged right after application for a soft look. I like these too because you can choose which brush you like. Some people like stiff slanted brushes and others like softer, narrow brushes. L’Oreal HIP Cream Eyeshadow  Color Truth in Black for $12 is nice but for $3 more I really love  MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack for $15. Other nice ones include: Cat Cosmetics Gel Liner in Tomcat for $18, Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Liner in Midnight Black for $22, and Bobbi Brown Long Wearing Gel Liner in Black Ink for $21

Cream Eyeshadow used as liner: These aren’t as smudge resistant or long lasting but they do define the top and bottom lashes nicely. You can smudge with a smudger brush or line with a brush. You can use your fingertips too for a messy look. These are nice for beginners because you have more control and it is easier to remove mistakes. A nice cheap option are the darkest shades in Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Precious Metals or Twilight for $6.50.My more espensive choice is Dior Diorshow Eyeshadow in Glam & Glitz Black for $30. Other nice ones: NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Zardoz for $21,

I also love Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl Liner for $33. It is a loose, OK, a messy powder I admit, with a pointed plastic stick for an applicator. It looks very raw an wild and has such a seductive dagger as packaging. I’m sold. Rimmel has the Smokin’ Kohl Eye Shadow in Black for $7 in way less glamorous packaging if that matters to you. I also noticed that L’Oreal HIP has launched a khol dagger also, but I am unsure of the price.

It’s difficult to discuss all the black liners out there but these are a few that I have used and really liked. Each have their own persoality and look. So try your each formula so you can find your own unique black liner look.

Prince once said that you don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude. But, baby it sure don’t hurt. And it don’t hurt to have the makeup either. Other than the peanut butter blush, I really like this look. Has a bit of an Old Hollywood flair.

To get Joan’s look apply foundation. It is so hard for me to stay away from Charles of the Ritz with this look. Apply foundation and concealer where and if needed. Apply something like Elizabeth Arden Mousse Makeup and Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Concealer. Dust face with a loose powder such as Clarins Loose Powder. Brows are really filled in and freaking flawless. Fill in brows with a brow powder such as Clinique Brow Shaper Powder. Go for Charcoaled for brows like Joan’s. Take the angled brush and fill the heck out of those suckers. Apply a pale shimmery eyeshadow from lashline to brows. Take the lightest shade from Laura Mercier Eye Colour Quad in Tuxedo Eye. Next take the smoky gray shade and go from lashline to above the crease, blending in a half circle motion. Don’t be scared the eyes are dark. Next take that matte black and go from lashline to crease and blend. Blend the black under the eyes too around the lashline. Next take a black liquid liner such as Clinique Eye Defining Liquid Liner and the line the top lashline. Apply false lashes or tons of black mascara for this eye heavy look. Line lips with a brown lipliner such as Clarins Lip Pencil in Natural Brown. Now to the frosty lipstick. Go old school with Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick in Snowsilver Rose. Next to the cheeks which I’m not too wild about. Apply Lancome Magique Mousse Blush in Cinammon Glaze under the cheekbones. Personally, I want to wear a pink blush with this. Something like Lancome Magique Mousse Blush in Pink Parfait, but anyways. Fragrance needs to be all about the attitude. I’m thinking Christian Dior Poison even if it gave my husband an asthma attack once. Wouldn’t that be what Joan would want anyways, taking males breath away when she walks into the room?
