Androgyny but with lots and lots of makeup. I guess that was one of the few good things about the 80’s. Don’t be scared to lay it on thick.

FACE: Cover up imperfections with an all around concealer like MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer in your shade. Face is matte (and I am sure shades lighter). I love MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Apply a hot pink powder blush such as Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Blush in Hot Pink.

EYES: Brush brows into place and fill them in with a soft, powdery brow pencil like Lancome Le Crayon Poudre. The colors needed for lids include a soft cream like Origins Eyeshadow in Cream Tulle, a medium plum such as MAC Eyeshadow in Plum Dressing, a burgundy like MAC Eyeshadow in Sketch, and a black or a burgundy black like MAC Eyeshadow in Beauty Marked. Apply the cream shade all over. From lash line to lid crease apply the plum/magenta. Also line the bottom lash line with this shade. In the crease with eyes open, apply the burgundy. With a crease brush apply the darkest shade, making a sideways “v”. Take this dark shade and apply halfway on the bottom lash line in the outer corners. Take the cream and blend into the lid towards the corner closest to your nose. Blend and blend until you get the look you want. Take a pitch black eye liner like Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyeliner and line top lash line halfway to make lashes appear fuller. Apply lots and lots of black mascara.

LIPS: Lips have full-coverage with a glossy raspberry shade. So make sure they are exfoliated and moisturized ahead of time. Line lips with a raspberry shade like Prescriptives Deluxe Lip Pencil in Raspberry. Apply a slightly glossy raspberry lipstick like Physcian’s Formula Plump Potion Lipstick in Raspberry Potion. Apply a shimmery pink lip gloss like Lancome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Raspberry Glimmer to the center of your bottom lip.

Prescriptives Well Suited fall collection reminds me of Dior’s fall collection last year and a slew of others. The inspiration is menswear and fabric. Once again, masculine chic is in this fall: vests, fedoras, button ups. It’s a bit dandy, Garbo, and 70’s Charlie Girl all in one. I’m not complaining, I love this look for fall fashions. Well Suited collection has those perfect shades for fall and since it is Prescriptives there is a compact/color for all complexions, eye colors, hair colors. The focus for this collection is on the eyes. All limited edition items come in a tweed like packaging. All items are available at Prescriptives.

EYES: There are 3 Eye Compacts that retail for $40. Each compact contains 5 eyeshadows. The Warm compact contains shades of warm beige, warm medium brown, soft olive drab, warm dark brown, and a calm ocean teal. I really think that this compact would be very flattering on blue eyes since the warm shades will provide a nice contrast. The Cool compact contains light pink shimmer, dirty mauve, dusty grey, soft burgundy plum, and a rich eggplant. I think this compact would look amazing on hazel and green eyes. Those cool plum shades will make the green stand out. The Neutral compact contains a light beige, cool light brown, deeper brown shimmer, lead pencil grey, and a matte black. This compact should go with all eye colors. There are 4 shades of the new Long Wearing Kohl Liners. It is like a kohl but with a retractable tip. It retails for $17.50 and comes in Black, Slate, Brown, and Blue. Evidently this liner is supposed to wear nicely on the inner rim of eyes because it is waterproof and smooth. (I never do this, my eyes are too small as is). Lash Envy Mascara has been relaunched for the collection.

LIPS: There are 4 shades (3 LE) of Colorscope Lipcolor for $17.50. There is Posh Honey (creamy latte cream), Posh Ginger (warm copper shimmer), Posh Nude ( a super soft mauve cream), and Posh Pink (creamy light plum berry). Obviously, the lips are sheer/nude for this collection. My favorites are Posh Honey because it is a great lipcolor that goes with a smoky eye and Posh Nude because it is so “everyday”.

FACE: There is a Finishing Powder in Translucent for $28. It is a sheer shimmer pressed powder complexion perfector.

I love a “peaches and cream” look. To get this gamine, simple look, I’m going to use Estee Lauder products.

First apply a sheer foundation if needed such as Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup. Apply concealer if and where needed. I like Smoothing Creme Concealer for the under eye area. If you have oily skin or fret about shine, apply a dusting of AeroMatte Pressed Powder. I personally like the sheerness and dewiness of Jane’s look. Apply a delicate sweeping of a blush such as Signature Powder Blush in Peach Nuance. This is a super sheer shade even on pale skintones, keep building until you get what you want. I recommend Deep Spice for darker skintones.

Brows are thick and well, darkened. To keep it super simple, apply a Brow Setting Gel if your brows are out of line. Eye makeup is super simple. Lightly brush a peachy beige shade such as Pure Color Eyeshadow in Peach from lashline to brows. Line eyes with a dark brown liner such as Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Coffee. Line closely to top and bottom lashlines to give the illusion of fullness. Apply a no-fuss mascara such as More Than Mascara in Black/Brown. The warmth in the browns used in this look will really make the peaches and cream look stand out.

The lips are what make this look so summery, sweet, and fresh. Keep them simple. No liner is needed. Apply Tender Lip Balm in Tender Peach. I love this conditioning formula. You’re finished! Well, I do recommend a spritz of Aliage. It is a nice way to top off a laid-back vintage look.

Seems as if Dior and Givenchy accidentally got some wires crossed for their Fall 2008 Color Collections. Givenchy has released some of their items and they are a bit “dandy”. This new Givenchy Pocket Beauty Case plays along with the 1930’s, old Hollywood androgyny, and 1970’s Faye Dunaway vibe. This is a new adorable silver Givenchy logo-ed “pocket watch” styled beauty case. It houses a dewy shimmering sheer pink highlighter that can be used on lips, cheeks, chest, or shoulders. My vote is for lips. It looks really pretty on lips and plus it is fun to pop out for reapplication. It is limited edition and retails for $55.

Dandy enough for a lady.

After Yves Saint Laurent’s death, I only find it great timing that the fall makeup collection for 2008 is “Tuxedo”, the look that is his legacy. I’m sure this was planned before the company had any idea of Yves’s health status. These collections are made years in advance, but this is a great collection to come out when it has. Yes, it is more smoky eye, very strong and very “seductive”. Which it has to be, to compete with the sleek androgyny of a ladies’ tux. Menswear on ladies was pretty hip before YSL but he mainstreamed it. Yes, dykes in clubs sported the look before it hit Vogue, vamps and violets,  and Dietrich was signature in this look. Chanel wore men’s clothing but these ladies weren’t the typical public. YSL brought this to the public in the 60’s, just when gender roles were being openly bended.

YSL offers for the fall/winter season Tuxedo which contains some nice collector’s palettes and of course it is all about luxury and glamour. And that ain’t cheap.

EYES: Palette Collection Collector Palette for the Eyes – This contains three shimmery shadows to create a smoky eye. There is an intense black, charcoal grey and glimmering champagne. It comes in a gold compact and the powders are stamped with a YSL logo. It retails for $60. There’s the Eyeliner Moire Liquid Eyeliner in Emerald Reflections which is a metallic jade green. This retails for $30. There’s the Everlong Lengthening Mascara in Ever Green which is a metallic jade green that retails for $27.50.They’ve also launched the new Ombres 5 Lumieres Colour Harmony for Eyes. These are eyeshadow compacts that contain 5 corresponding shades. They are available in 6 compacts: Sahara (warm sands and browns), Indian Pink (plums and pinks), Tawny (browns and neutrals), Lilac Sky (lilacs and purples), Riviera (blues and smoky blue shades), and Garden of Eden (khakis and greens). These sell for $56.

LIPS & NAILS: Rouge Pur Lipstick in Purple Velvet, a deep vampy berry, and Pink Satin, a soft baby doll mauve. There’s Rouge Pur Shine Sheer Lipstick in Shimmering Pink, a shimmering candy pink,  and Tuxedo Pink, an electric hot pink. All the lipsticks retail for $29. Also, available is the Golden Gloss Shimmering Lip Gloss in Golden Purple, a gold flaked blackberry,  and Golden Berry, a gold flaked Barbie pink. This formula contains real 24K gold and retails for $28.The Nail Lacquer is available in Tuxedo Gray, a shimmery gun metal gray,  and Rich Coffee, almost black but deep coffee shade. These retail for $19. I love the shades used for these lacquers.

FACE: There is a Palette Collection Collector Palette for the Complexion that looks like the eye compact and contains a sheer beige face powder, warm peach blush, and a pearly pink highlighter. This also has the YSL logo on the powder and is in a gold compact. Retails for $60. There is the Flash Radiance Skincare Brush which is a brightening cream highlighting skincare item that smooths fine lines with a silcon elastomer and erases fatigue with caffeine. It has a brush tip applicator and retails for $52. The company calls this their secret weapon. There is the Variation Blush in Silky Nude which contains both matte and shimmery powders of a perfect nude with a hint of pink. Retails for $42.

Overall, the collection is very “strong”. The lips are bold, the eyes are dark. It is very chic and very YSL. I like it that bold pinks for lips are being used for the fall/winter. It is a great mix of masculin and femme styles.
