I’m giving a “pale” look for summer. It’s time to take a break from bronzers and gold shimmer.

FACE: To get this look apply a foundation such as Clinique Even Better Makeup (this is a foundation that lightens dark spots!). Apply concealer where needed. I like the creaminess of Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. Take a fluffy powder brush and apply a pressed powder such as L’Oreal True Match Powder. Cheeks barely have any color. Apply a very light dusting of a sheer pinky peach blush like Everyday Minerals Matte Blush in Nick Nack to the apples of the cheeks.

EYES: Yvette’s thick brows are very dark in this pic. Take a slanted brow brush and apply a warm brown brow powder. For a color like Yvette’s try Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Brow Color in Brunette. With a large shadow brush, apply a pale ivory matte shadow such as Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone. Take a damp slanted liner brush and apply a cake eyeliner in a dark brown shade. I like Nvey Eco Cake Eyeliner in Brown. Apply a thick line, halfway to the crease. Do not “wing” out. Keep wetting and filling in. Take a fine liner brush that isn’t wet, rub it across the cake liner. Apply this to the bottom lash line to “thicken” the bottom lashes. Apply a few coats of mascara such as Too Faced Pinpoint Lash Injection in Hot Chocolate to top lashes and one coat to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are so nude. I would start by applying a lip primer to take the “pink” out of the lips. Try a tinted product like Origins Underwear for Lips Perfecting Lip Primer. Apply a coat or two of MAC Lipglass in Florabundance. This is a pale peach with a little pink. I use it all the time to get this pale lip.

With the fragrance, I have to be so literal. I think a nice peony scent like Becker Eshaya b.e. EDP would fit perfectly for this look.

burgundyliners

I love burgundy or wine eyeliners for hazel, green, and brown eyes. I have blue eyes and still really love them but I do have to watch out for the undertones in the wine shade or I will look like I have wine-o eyes. When paired with a pale, nude lip, it is a sexy look. Here is a guide to a few burgundy liners ranging in formulas and in prices.

Budget Burgundy Liners (Under $12): Rimmel Special Eyes Precision Eye Liner Pencil in Burgundy is a wooden pencil liner in a burgundy shade. The color is pretty but I found the formula a bit waxy and that I had to use the body heat from my finger tips to soften it. It retails for about $3.50. Sephora Long Lasting Metallic Eyeliner in Aubergine (not pictured) is a long wearing metallic burgundy plum that goes for $10. mark Eyemarker Color On Line in Wine (not pictured) is a retractable and smooth wearing wine/burgundy shade that goes for about $5.50. It is my favorite out of the budget list.

More Expensive Burgundy Liners: L’Oreal Hip Kohl Liner in Burgundy is a deep burgundy shimmer powder. I really like this formula since it reminds me of Guerlain Kohl eye liner but much cheaper and in a wider variety of colors. It retails for about $13 and can be used as a shadow as well. It will create a beautiful merlot smoky eye. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Eye Liner in Now (not pictured) is a plum burgundy mineral powder liner. It retails for $13. It is a beautiful color and the formula provides a softer, more natural finish. Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner in Turbo Lover is a liquid liner with a plummy wine base that is warmed by bronze sparkles. This color really works well with blue eyes because the warm undertones make the eyes really pop. It retails for $16. Yves Saint Laurent Dessin du Regard Haute Tenue Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Shimmering Burgundy (not pictured) is a deep burgundy in a soft easy to use pencil. It retails for $28. Laura Mercier Liquid Eye Liner in Bordeaux is a long wearing metallic liner that goes for $22. DuWop Smoke in Plum Wine contains a burgundy cake eyeliner and a deep purple shadow to create a sexy smoky eye. It retails for $28. Make Up For Ever Flash Color in Wine (not pictured) is a highly pigmented cream that can be used a liner. Wine is a red-ish shade so watch if you have too much red in the whites of your eyes. You could end up looking monstrous. It goes for $18. MAC has a few burgundy liners. I like Liquidlast Liner in Powerplum because it is a purpley plum with red shimmer in a liquid form. I love the addition of the shimmer. It goes for $16.50. The other one is the versatile Technakohl Liner in Purple Dash which is a reddish aubergine that goes for $14.50 (both aren’t pictured).

Oh, Jane Fonda, one of my favorite blondes. This is a simple look really. Just remember it is all about the eyes. This is a look that works well with most pale/light to medium complexions with the products mentioned below:

FACE: Apply concealer where needed. For me, this is applied under the eyes and I like Prescriptives Site Unseen Brightening Concealer. Apply a matte foundation like Estee Lauder Fresh Air Makeup Up Base if you like liquid or Maybelline Pure Stay Powder Foundation (not pictured) if you prefer a powder. Cheeks are super sheer with the faintest hint of a flush. Use a tiny bit of Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting. I love this color and formula for a faintly flushed look.

EYES: Fill in brows with an easy-blending powder and brush into place with a wax. Urban Decay Brow Box is a great product for this. The colors in Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Eyeshadow Quad in Sueded Browns are nice for this eye. Take the lightest shade, a pale beige, and apply all over the eye lid from lash line to brow. Take the medium brown shade and apply from lash  line to crease. In the crease, apply the darkest espresso brown shade and blend with a nice blending brush. Take this same dark shade and apply it to the bottom lash line with a fine brush. Apply more of this shade to the crease and go as dramatic as you feel comfortable with. Next apply a liquid liner such as MAC Liquid Liner in Boot Black. Apply a thick line and wing out slightly. Curl lashes and apply mascara but to get the real deal look, apply a strip of false lashes like Ardell. Coat bottom lashes with mascara.

LIPS: The lips are super nude and almost look like concealer applied over the lips with a balm added. You could use a color like NYX Round Lipstick in Iced Honey or Chambord for a beige-ish nude color or B-52 if you want a little more pink, OK much more pink but still have that 60’s nude lip. Sorry, I have no pic of these but they are in my own collection and I love them for these kind of looks.

I really think that this looks needs a fresh, green, citrus scent such as Prescriptives Calyx. I really need to pick up a new one of these, almost out.

janefondalook

This limited edition lip gloss/ lip balm has a lovely super pale satin peachy pink. It makes for an amazing pale lip look on my skintone. Especially if the smoky eye is super bronzed or a smoky violety taupe. It looks very Victoria’s Secret Angels that way. I like the shade because it looks nice with both baby pink and peach blushes and it is stunning with a pinky-peach blush like NARS Orgasm. The only downside is that since it is pale and a bit satin (sans mega shimmer) it can look uneven or attach to dry patches like mad. That is a bit inconvenient being that this is a lip gloss balm that is made to make lips look healthy. Your lips have to be healthy and in tip top shape for this to look good. The formula is rich and contains shea butter. It moisturizes but doesn’t repair winter parched lips. Plus, I was craving a super rosy fragrance like those refreshing Middle Eastern drinks. The fragrance is rosy but very faint. It is rosy in a Dior Lychee Rose way. So it is a bit cat pissy and fruity. I try not to think about that too much and just try to think of roses. Luckily, the fragrance isn’t too strong so this can be ignored if you quit obsessing over it. This product is lucky to be such a pretty shade that works for me. I’m not shaken that this is limited edition. Once again it is another product that I could live without.

Happy Halloween!

Since a child, I’ve been trying to be as stylish as Julie Newmar a.k.a. Cat Woman. I was in love with her “home” decor on the show, her nude lips, her big hair. What a glamour gal! No wonder I own so much leopard print and false lashes.

First apply concealer where needed, such as Lancome Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer and then apply a powder foundation such as Guerlain Parure Compact Foundation in your shade, Julie would so have something in this case. Brush brows into place (unlike Cat Woman’s which were always messy and pointed up strangely), use a tinted brow gel such as Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in your shade, for brows like Julie’s try Caramel. This look is all about a heavy handed eye. Apply foundation powder to eyelid to adsorb oil and make shadow stay on longer. Apply a nude shadow from lashline to brow. I would recommend the lightest shade in Guerlain Ombre Eclat Duo & Liner in L’Heure Fumee. Blend the darker shade from the duo from lashline to crease. Blend a little bit more of the lighter shade under the brow bone to “liven” up the look. Take the dark gel liner from the compact and line eyes “cat eye” style of course. This can be applied extra thick for glamor, just for glamor sake. Apply false lashes or tons of mascara to add emphasis to the eye area. Add Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Blonde to the apples of cheeks. This stuff is lovely and is truly a complexion perfector. Apply a nude lip liner such as Guerlain Lip Pencil in Cupidon. Guerlain has the perfect lip color for this look. Apply the amazing Guerlain Kiss Kiss Stick Gloss in Vanilla Beige to lips. This color is so Angela Jolie too. Of course tease hair and spray with hair spray, shake it and let it look a bit messy. Apply fragrance, not to be cliche but I do recommend Cartier Panthere Eau Legere or By Dolce & Gabbana to complete this feline look.

And “Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything-Julie Newmar”

I have a few of these mark Glow Baby Glow and Glow Baby Glow Luxe lip glosses and I am really impressed with their quality for the price. They connect to one another so that you can choose your perfect combos. Each of these glosses have a minty fresh scent that is very inoffensive and fresh. The texture is thinner than MAC Lip Glass or Lancôme Juicy Tube but not as thin as Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm or Bonne Bell. It is really nice texture that wears for a while without being sticky or leaving those white gummy things on your lips like MAC does. I really like the stuff and it sells for $5 when it isn’t on sale. I have Peek-a-Boo which is an awesome pale nude that pairs perfectly with smoky eyes. I have Player which is a shimmery bronze that I’m not so crazy about just because it is so “normal” looking. I have Secret which is a nude pale mauve that looks great with smoky eyes. Girly Girl is a sheer pink with blue shimmer. The “luxe” shades I have are Lotus Luxe which is a shimmery nude pink and Pearl Luxe which is a white shimmer. You have to buy the connectors separately. I love these and I’d probably buy more if I could see them in person. That’s what sucks about mark, they’re really great cosmetics but you have to have a rep (which I don’t) or order them online and just guess. I really want to try the plumping glosses too. Buy them here.

Here we go again, another smoky eye kit. I’m kind of tired of the smoky eye look and I am ready to move on. This look will look really dated in about ten more years and will define the early 2000s look. However, I can’t deny that it is a fun look and that is why we keep seeing it coming. So let us embrace it while we still can.

There is a new limited edition Laura Geller Smoke Signals Kit which contains everything you need to complete your smoky eye look for a great value. The kit contains a Baked Marble Eyeshadow Duo in Stormwatch which is a smoky charcoal grey shimmer and pearly white shimmer. The formula of this shadow is very nice and I like to compare it to MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow. It can be used wet or dry.  It has a Powder Pencil in Dazzle which is a smoky black eyeliner. There is a Creamy Black Mascara which is a basic volumizing black mascara. The lips are not neglected in this kit. It has a Lipstick in Nice-n-Nude which is a barely there pale tawny brown. The kit retails for $32 which is a great deal considering that a lipstick goes for $15.50 by itself. Plus, you’ll use at least three of the items daily. And it is a great balance of dark eyes and pale lips. Laura Geller is the queen of QVC and she does offer some great products even if they are gimmicky, they are wearable. This kit is available on sephora.com and is a limited edition so get it while it is still smoke’n hot.
