I know that I’ve slacked on reviewing things. I’ve been so busy, but enough of the excuses. I’ve been really behind on commenting on new color collections. I got lost in the holiday launches. It seems like MAC comes out with a new color collection every Friday. It isn’t that they aren’t special, it’s just that I can’t keep up. Many of the colors are just renamed. The Warm and Cozy Collection doesn’t contain mind-altering colors or taboo shades. However, I am so intrigued by this collection. It’s hot stuff. I’ve craved soft fabrics in cream cashmere and apricot silk paired with copper/rose gold jewelry and shimmering complexions. This collection is that. It’s sexy in that Victoria’s Secret way: tousled hair, gilded bronze eye makeup that makes blue eyes pop, and plump lips. This complexion came out just when I was craving this. This is something different for me. I usually just rock deep lipsticks throughout the cooler months but this year I’ve done more of the bronze eye lid look with golden lips. I want candlelit shades, romance. This collection is sexy without trying too hard. The warm undertones really flatter any complexion, even my pasty PNW skin.

EYES: There are 3 simple and understated with very minimal to no shimmer Eyeshadows. The shades are Chamomile (creamy matte), Modellete (warm medium brown), and Mulled Cider (warm brown). These shades aren’t exciting but they are very versatile. Chamomile is a great shade that is a must have for doing a “vintage” look with bold lips. There are 4 shimmery Shadesticks in Cuddle, Nurture, Relaxed, and Warm & Cozy. These are all in various neutral shades with warm champagne and gold undertones. They look great alone with a few heavy coats of mascara or layered under the matte powder eyeshadows in the collection.

LIPS: There are 3 shades of Lipsticks: Siss (warm golden candlelight), Spiced Tea (warm reddish bronze shimmer), and Warm Up (gentle rosewood). Siss is my favorite. It pairs nicely with dark eye makeup. There are 4 Tinted Lip Glasses in 2N (sexy neutral pink), 3N (neutral golden brown), Feeling Dreamy (rosé wine shimmer), and Light That Fire! (rusty shimmer). I really do like all the lip glasses in this collection. They are so versatile. The Tinted Lip Conditioners have been relaunched. They’re a great product.

COMPLEXION: There are 2 Mineralize Skinfinish powders in By Candlelight (champagne shimmer) and Comfort (orangey bronze). This collection launched Care Blends Essential Oils in 2 formulas in the complexion. They are so nice. A little goes a long way and the scents are heavenly. There is Sweet Orange & Lavender and Grapefruit & Chamomile. Mineralize All OVer Body Lotion is a slightly shimmery body lotion.

Oh, there are 2 Nail Lacquers in Blissed Out (pale warm pink shimmer) and Dim The Lights (sexy chocolate truffle shimmer).

I really do think that this is a perfect late winter color collection. It’s soft and cozy and it adds much needed warmth to the complexion. I can’t pull off teal eye makeup and heavy bronzers right now. My skin hasn’t seen the sun in months. I pretty much live in the Artic Circle. This is a great complexion compromise. I get a golden glow without being too “tropical vacation”. This is a champagne by the fire place kind of collection. Love it.

I love a rusty colored lip. And can one go wrong with retro cateyes? Nope.

To get beautiful Märta Torén’s look:

FACE: Marta’s complexion is flawless. Apply concealer where needed. Shiseido Concealer Stick can cover anything from blemishes to undereye circles. Follow up with foundation. Try a mousse foundation like Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. This is a nice formula and it looks great if you buff it after applying with a “buff” brush. Lightly dust a translucent powder over the face. I love MAC Select Sheer Loose Powder. Apply a coral/orange powder blush to cheeks. Take a fluffy brush and apply Paul & Joe Face Color in Moroccan Orange to light-medium skin tones or a shade like Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow Cheek Color in Fira (a mango orange, not pictured) for medium-dark skin tones.

EYES: Marta’s eyebrows are amazing. To get a similar look, make sure everything is cleaned up, tweeze and tweeze. Take a brow pencil that is slightly powdery such as my all time favorite Lancome Le Crayon Poudre (not pictured) in your shade. Fill in brows and brush into place with the spoolie on the end. Shadow is matte and neutral. All  you need are the colors that are in NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Portabello. Apply the lightest shade from lash line to brow bone. With eyes open, apply the darker shade in the compact above the crease. Blend until it looks completely seamless. Next we go to the cat eyes. Get a black gel liner like Bobbi Brown Long-Wearing Gel Liner in Caviar Ink. Take the liner brush of your choice, for me this is a fine liner art brush and apply to the top lash line and wing out. I do this with my eyes slightly open and “tugging” it into place with the other hand. Apply false lashes or a few coats of a lengthening mascara such as L’Oreal Lash Out Lengthening and Separating Mascara in Black. Apply 1-2 coats to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are a soft rusty orange. Apply concealer around lips to keep color from feathering. Make sure to blend thoroughly. Apply a rusty golden shade like Lancome Color Design Lipcolor in Groupie, a great color of orange red and gold shimmer (this would look better on deeper skintones). Another great color if you want more orange is Lancome Color Designe Lipcolor in Studded. Studded is more Marta-ish. I apologize for the crummy pictures. The colors are much more vivid and lovely in real life. Apply a sheer gold lip gloss to bottom lips for a plump effect. I recommend Lipstick Queen Shine in Gold Saint.

Choosing a fragrance has been hard for this “look”. I’d have to go with Byredo Parfums Pulp. Perhaps because of the “Swedish” influences?

Estee Lauder has attempted to make “warm tones of sun-baked nudes and rose, lit with glimmers of gold look flattering on every skin tone.” It is a collection of “rose golds” with “glimmers”(AKA big pieces of shimmer flakes). It is a pretty, neutral collection and I imagine that it will really work for many people. It’s sexy in a Victoria’s Secret supermodel way, I mean just look at bronzed up Hilary Rhoda, the model above. I say that it will not work on all skin tones. But, if you have warm or olive undertones, it should really work. They have “amethyst” colors too. These are warmed up plums and berries. Instead of thinking as those as warm cools that cool toned complexions can wear, I think of them as cool tones that warm complexions can wear. Does that make sense?

EYES: There are 2  Sensuous Gold Signature Eyeshadow Quads that retail for $35. To be honest, I was not really impressed with either of these. It’s the formula. I know you’ve seen it before. It looks like it has been dusted with shimmer flakes. The shimmer is not mixed throughout the powder so you’ll get one use that will be super, super shimmery. It isn’t ugly, it’s just deceptive, I guess. Plus, I don’t see this formula wearing very nicely on a mature eye area. The colors are pretty, but I just recommend trying before you buy. There is Rose Amethyst, shimmery shades of plum, pink, and gold. The other is Rose Gold, glimmery shades of rose/pink and gold. Double Wear Stay In Place Eye Pencil has been relaunched. It’s a nice long wearing formula. Another item includes Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara. I haven’t tried it so sorry, no insights.

FACE: There is a Gilded Rose Shimmer Powder that retails for $36. It’s a baked and marbelized shimmer powder with gold, rose, peach, taupe, sand colors like that. It’s pretty but no better than any other baked and marbelized complexion enhancer on the market. However, it does come with a nice wide, flat brush. And of course Double Wear Foundation has been relaunched.

LIPS & NAILS: There are Signature Lipsticks in a pretty rose gold container. This have been dusted in shimmer also. They retail for $19.50. There’s Cinnamon, Plum Amethyst, Rose Amethyst, and Terracotta. All are warm and range from rose to bronze. There are 2 new Pure Color Multi-Gloss. These have colored layers of shimmer and go for $18. There is Amethyst and Rose Gold. There are 2 Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Black Amethyst, a rich blackberry, and Rose Gold, a shimmery warm rose. Both retail for $18.

And of course there is the Sensuous EDP, a modern wood scent that really isn’t too bad. And to “honor” this collection, they’ve released limited edition products in this scent. A solid perfume, perfume, body oil, body cream, and touch on fragrance. Prices range from $39.50-$120. I am really interested in the body oil. Remember Tom Ford’s Youth Dew Amber Nude body oil? That stuff was amazing.

This isn’t a collection that I feel I must have but it isn’t bad. I do like the warm plums. This collection because of the warm gold undertones could really make blue eyes pop and it will really compliment brown, hazel, and green eyes. The warm tones will work very nicely with olive and tan skins or anybody with golden undertones. We all know that rose gold looks great on redheads so imagine the shades with “rose gold” in the title will look wonderful. It’s just the shimmer factor that may put some people off due to age or the fact that they don’t like to be glitzy during the work day.

I am a fan of the complexion enhancer. I love shimmer and glimmer. Too Faced has released a new shimmer powder: Absolutely Invisible Candlelight Powder. It is a soft golden ivory shimmer that will warm up pale to medium skins. It comes in a compact with a glam chandelier on it. I love it because I love how Too Faced does shimmer. It retails for $25. TheBalm has released a new shimmer powder: Mary-Lou Manizer. I am not wild for the name being that I think being an “izer” of any type isn’t cool. It’s a beautiful golden ivory shimmer powder that works nicely with light to medium skins. It makes a nice eyeshadow and highlighter for face and body. It comes in a mirrored compact with an under arrest blonde pin-up type gal on it. This retails for $22.

Both powders are very similar. Both are multi-use powders that provide a “soft” shimmer. Too Faced’s contains anti-oxidants. TheBalm’s is talc and paraben free. You can pick them up from Sephora.

I love shimmer. So naturally, I was attracted to L’Occitane’s Golden Branch Luminous Body Cream. It is a nice moisturizing cream with tons of gold shimmers. The sparkles are flattering and really “warm” up the skin. In the lotions spiked with shimmer world, this product has larger than normal shimmers. Nope, not body glitter, just not super fine. That doesn’t bother me. It has rich ingredients such as olive oil and olive butter. It is moisturizing but quick absorbing and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. Between that factor and the shimmer, I love this stuff for summer. But, wait! That’s not all! It has a faint “olive” fragrance. It is very “Mediterranean” and mixes wonderfully with fig fragrances such as Diptyque Philosykos, Demeter Fig Leaf, or CB I Hate Perfume Revelation. It isn’t a strong odor and it fades kind of quickly. It turns more woody and a little more spicier on the skin after a day’s wear. But, that may just be me and my spice diet. It is a costly product at $36 for 8.8 ounces and available at DERMAdoctor. Will I repurchase? I don’t know. I like it but it is costly and I am too much of a flirt to really commit to any product for too long…

I don’t usually do light blue shadows. They are too Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets horrible big hair 80s makeup. Plus, I feel it washes out my complexion. I realized that I needed a warm light blue. I’ve found the perfect shade with Scott Barnes Eye Ice in Blue Angel. The color is a lovely light sea blue with tons and tons of gold shimmer. It really warms it up and creates a gilded blue. I have never seen a color like it and this is coming from somebody that has steamer chests full of shadows. This colors really works with my complexion and makes my blue eyes pop. The pigment is very rich and one wash of color does the trick. It is a loose shadow formula in a glass cube container. It is a bit hard to get out without wasting a ton of product. The opening is not large enough to get a brush into. I am not wild about the packaging even if it is pretty. I’m trying to find something else to put it in so I won’t waste so much of this precious pigment. I’ve tried a few of the other colors and I love them too. They are kind of pricey at $25 but I think I am going to buy the purple, Glenda, because it is a dusty lilac that is packed with gold shimmer too.

Weekly Cheap Find:

I am a huge fan of Milani shadows. They are long wearing and highly pigmented. The price can not be beat. I usually purchase the singles but the quads are very nice. One of my favorites, especially for redheads, is the quad in Autumn Earth. All the shadows are very pearly and a packed with pigment. There is a light beige shimmer. It is much lighter than the picture leads you to believe. Imagine a warm pearl. This looks amazing when worn under the arch of the brow. It creates an instant lifting effect. I use this shade sparingly under the arch with lots of looks. There is a rich forest green. This creates an amazing smoky eye that isn’t as harsh as black. The two “metal” shades are worth the $5.99 price tag alone. There is a pure gold shimmer and a pure bronze shimmer. These shades really make blue eyes pop. Dust a bit of the gold under the bottom lashline and your blue eyes will be complimented. I promise. This compact comes with an applicator. I never use it even though it isn’t horrible. One end is a sponge, the other a brush. I recommend this compact for any lover of shimmer and gilded shades, redheads, warm skintones, any eye color but especially blue, and gals with a tan.
