I just want summer to be here! Here’s a very easy to wear sunkissed 70’s look. It’s a nice look, but man, I hate 70’s hair…

FACE: Apply a no-fuss tinted moisturizer to clean skin. I like the formula and color selection of Bobbi Brown SPF Tinted Moisturizer. Dust a natural looking bronzer like Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder all over the face. Apply a little more to the cheeks to use as a blush.

EYES: Brows are thick and very natural. Apply a clear brow wax such as Anastasia Brow Fix Clear Wax Pencil. Apply a cream eyeshadow with your finger tips to the entire eye lid. I like the color of NARS Single Cream Eyeshadow in Corfu, a slightly glimmering taupe. Line top lashes and bottom lashes closely with a soft liner pencil like L’Oreal Le Kohl Pencil Smooth Defining Eyeliner in a charcoal shade like Smoke. Apply a black mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are a pale taupe. MAC Lipstick in Tanarama is the perfect shade for this look. Apply it to lips and then blot on a tissue to finish this laid back look.

This really is a simple, quick look that works blondes, brunettes, redheads, anybody with a warm, tan complexion. You can even be like Ali and not wash your hair for it…

So who says we can’t take Robert Smith’s look and well, feminize it for our girly selves. I personally love it that he sports red lipstick. It sure is more striking than black lipstick on his alabaster perfect skin. First, skin should be even and pale. Apply concealer where needed. If you need foundation apply that too. Apply a fun powder such as Papier Poudré powder sheet in White. It kind of mimics a nice gothic complexion without being startling. Brush brows into place with a clear brow gel or brow wax such as MAC Brow Finisher in Clear. Apply a matte white eye shadow from lashline to brow bone such as Manic Panic Powder Eyeshadow in Virgin. Line eyes with a nice, thick black eyeliner like Benefit Bad Gal. Line the upper and lower lashline with a heavy, messy hand. It’s a very Liz Taylor as Cleopatra cateye, ancient Egyptian look. Apply black mascara or apply false lashes. Lips are lush and red. Line lips with a red lip pencil. I don’t care what anybody tells you. Red lip liner is a must. Line lips with Manic Panic Lip Liner in Vampire Red (this also doubles as an interesting eyeliner.) Apply a cherry, pure, blood red lipstick with a hint of satin, something like Milani Velvet Lips Lipstick in Red Carpet. Apply a nice coat of clear lip gloss. There are tons of these on the market and for a cheap price Maybelline Shiny-Licious Lip Gloss in Berry Clear isn’t too bad. Robert has decided to go blushless. That’s OK. I would love to slap a nice hot pink hue on his milky white skin but I don’t think he will let me. Tossle hair into a ragged mess and blast with aerosol hairspray if you dare and but on a nice sultry unisex fragrance like Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur de Male. So, it isn’t unisex but it might as well be, just like this look.

For some reason I fall for all of Benefit’s gimmicks. I know that I can get the same result from a different product (AKA cheaper product). I love a highlighted brow bone. You know that drag queen lifted high to the sky brow bone? Love it. This pencil claims to add an instant brow lift. It does highlight nicely and is easy to use. It does what alot of slightly pearly powder eyeshadows do. This pencil is a super pale pink. It looks nice on my light skintone but I really don’t think the color is for everyone. I really don’t think it is for alot of people. With my experience as a makeup artist I wouldn’t use this on like 80% of my clients. My darker clients would benefit more from a pearly golden champagne powder. Anyways, you take this pencil and line under your brows and blend and it is supposed to lift. The lady at the counter tried to tell me that it helps cover up stray, unruly brows between waxing. Yeah, whatever. If your philosophy is to cake your hair follicles with tons of pigment to disguise a stray hair rather than pluck it, then that would work. It doesn’t do that. In fact the lighter shade makes strays more noticeable if you have dark hair like I do. It’s an OK product and the color works for me but it is something to definitely try before buying. It retails for $20 and I’ve used loose face powders that created the same results as this when swept and blended right under the brow bone.

You have got to love this Austrian actress look: lovely, soft, and feminine without being too sweet. It’s a nice vintage change from the super popular red lips look. Seeing a lot of red lips this holiday season.

First apply concealer and a powder foundation, I really like MAC Select Cover Up Concealer and MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Brows are thick, sculptured and dramatic. If you are blessed with thick brows, just apply a gel brow tamer, if not pencil in brows with MAC Eye Brows in a dark brown like Lingering. Apply a matte, white-ish nude shadow from lashline to brow bone. Use something like Gesso . Apply a light brown like Omega from lashline to crease. Blend with a big shadow brush. In the crease blend a frosty gray like Silver Ring. Line eyes with MAC Eye Khol in Phone Number which is a smoky gray. Line top lashline and bottom lashline. Next apply false lashes and/or black mascara. Mascara should be applied to bottom lashes also. Cheeks are soft and have a Georgia peach look. Apply MAC Powder Blush in Pinch O’ Peach. I love this shade, looks great on eyes too. Brush onto the apples of cheeks. Apply a lip liner like MAC Cremestick Liner in Summerfruit which is a pale coral. Apply MAC Lipstick in Ravishing for peachy perfect lips. Apply MAC Lipstick in Vegas Volt if your skintone is deeper. Curl hair and tossle for a messy sultry look. Apply fragrance, no one is dressed without it, I’m thinking something like Chanel Cristalle EDT, with its peachy green goodness.

Still A Modern Look

I love Sophia Loren. She wasn’t the best actress, but she had a wonderful look. I’ve decided to “recreate” her look from Man of La Mancha, you know one of those “historical” pieces were the main babe is still modern looking. First apply a sheer foundation if needed and touches of concealer where needed. I suggest Benefit Cosmetics You Rebel and Lancome Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer. A little bronzer may do you some good, I love NARS Bronzer Powder in Laguna for lighter skins or Casino for darker skins. Apply bronzer lightly with a large kabuki or bronzer brush, concentrating on where light actually hits. Sophia has amazing brows, they’re way thicker than mine but they are so beautiful. Brush your brows with a tinted brow tamer such as Dior Diorshow Brow Gel in the color that matches your complexion. Apply a nude shadow all over the lid. Use the lightest shade in Maybelline Eyeshadow Quad in Mocha Motions. The colors in this quad are great and they lean to the cool side but have enough brown in them to keep them from looking odd. Take a big fluffy eyeshadow brush and blend the bottom left shade into the crease generously. You’re creating a light smoky eye. Take that same shade and smudge it around the lashline, top and bottom, creating a lovely ring. Take a brush and dab the top right color from the compact onto the “ball” of the eye when it is closed. This will help “grab” some light and keep the look from looking flat. Line eyes with a smoky black eyeliner such as Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Midnight. This formula is very smooth and soft. Curl lashes with an eyelash curler and coat with a lush black mascara such as L’Oreal Feather Lash. Don’t forget to coat the bottom lashes too. Brush cheeks with a large fluffy brush coated with Benefit Cosmetics Dallas or any bronzey blush shade. Line lips with a natural nude mauve lip pencil such as Lancome Le Lipstique in Natural Mauve. Apply a natural pink lipstick with a hint of shimmer such as Lancome Le Rouge Absolu Replenishing Lip Color in Pink Diamond. Apply NARS Body Glow to the body for a hint of sexy shimmer and fragrance. Now you’re ready to be sexy and a little understated.
