Get The Rock’n Look of Joan Jett With MAC Cosmetics

First of I love Joan’s hair on the album cover, so much so that a few years ago I brought it into the salon so that I too could sport this look. All products used for this look are MAC.

FACE: Apply concealer where needed. I like the ease of Select Cover Up because it is in a tube. Even out complexion with a powder foundation such as Studio Fix Foundation plus Powder. Apply just a bit of Powder Blush in Loverush, a sheer burgundy that gives a healthy flush.

EYES: Sculpt brows into place using Eye Brows eye pencil. For black brows like Joan’s use Velvetone. Apply Paint Pot in Fresco Rose as an eyeshadow base. Apply Eye Shadow in Of Summer, a pale mauve pink,  from lashline to brows. From the corner of the eye closest to the nose, take a brush and make a big “hook” shape with a magenta eyeshadow like Stars N’ Rockets. From lashline to crease blend Hepcat, a vivid wine. Take a creamy shadow like the Shadestick in Sharkskin, a smoky gray, and thickly line top and bottom lashes all the way around. Use the thickness of the Shadestick to your advantage! Apply a glittery black eye shadow like Black Tied over Sharkskin. Blend upwards and outwards for a smoky but still very bold look. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Pro Lash is supposed to do it all.

LIPS: Lips are no fuss and very natural. Apply a conditioning lip balm treatment like the Lip Conditioner Stick. So easy, no worries of smearing. Eat a hamburger! Kiss! No touching up!

If I had to choose a matching fragrance I would go for MV 3, it’s tough and sexy and very rock and roll with notes of jasmine, vanilla, and leather.

 

I’m Embarrassed To Say That I Like Juicy Couture EDP Fragrance.

Embarrassed? Why is that? I really dislike the brand Juicy Couture mainly because they make overpriced garments for hipless teenie boppers. I don’t have anything against hipless teenie boppers. It is just that I am a grown women. And as they say in the South “a grown ass woman”. This means that I need to dress so without being ashamed of my hips and all the other curves that I just so happen to own. Juicy Couture will occasionally have a few cute dresses or nice prints but I can’t stop thinking of their velour or terry track suit look with words like “juicy” on the bum. This bothers me. Nobody, even hipless teens, looks good in a hot pink terry sweatpant with old English letters on the backside. It is the most unflattering look ever. That being said, and I should add that I do own a few Juicy items, such as nice terry hoodies that I have picked up at Nordstrom Rack with a great price tag, I find Juicy clothing rather dull or even worse unflattering and trashy. So why should I be ashamed of completely loving the original EDP? Well, because it is made by Juicy Couture. Shallow, I know. But, it is a really popular fragrance by a really popular company. But, I must confess that I have loved it since it’s first day of launching, what was that 2 years ago?! Just like I try to keep my closet gothness hidden, I’ve tried to keep my love of Juicy EDP in the closet. I had a friend that worked for the launching campaign. He gave me a bazillion samples because he understood that I couldn’t possibly purchase after dogging all the rich mall rats that sported the letters on the ass look making them look at least 25 pounds heavier under the bellybutton. I would wear the fragrance. People would ask me what I was wearing and I would lie through my teeth that I was wearing something else or merely “a lady never reveals such”. Sick, but that is why I must confess. Years have passed and I am down to the last few sprays of a sample spray vial. The time has come to order it online, grow up, and admit that I like a very popular fruity floral. I must also come to terms that it is OK and that I am no less of a glamazon and adult women for liking this fragrance. I can’t really explain my love for it. I must admit that I did love the initial add campaign with the huge haired Antoinette ladies with a punky attitude and the giant sized animals. It was genius. And I do live in that type of fantasy and wear big hair. I love that at first spritz it is loud and really fruity. It is a super synthetic and sweet watermelon and apple like a Pixie Stick but thank God that it smells of a loud tuberose bouquet on me. It is super floral, super girly and unlike my other tuberose scents not “old”. It is a wonderful new take on such a hard to wear and crude floral.  It is a sweet tuberose but it isn’t very vanilla-ish, at least on me. It is a “loud” scent and the original ad campaign imagery perfectly sums it up. It is super ladylike with a bit of a young and mall rat-ish edge. My husband loves it but he has a thing for tuberose in incarnation. I have smelled many mainstream fruity florals but none are as interesting as this one. And the bottle is really cute. And it wears for hours, the entire day on me. And there are lots of cute “extras”. Has anyone tried the shampoo or conditioner? Please share. I would love to try those. Punk? If You Are Blondie. Lancome Spring 2009 Pink Irreverence Makeup Collection

I kind of like this collection because at least Lancome is trying to be edgy with their new Spring 2009 Color Story. It is bold but it is pink which every makeup collection has offered this spring. But, at least this is trying to have some “attitude”. It is inspired by the Piha Volcanic beaches of New Zealand, doesn’t look very Xena to me. Pink Irreverence is supposed to “push the boundaries of beauty”. I don’t know about that since this look as been done a million times before. It is very Deborah Harry and it is very every fashion magazine in the early 80’s. Pushing boundaries,  I think not. Pretty while being bold, yes.

EYES: There are two new Color Design Eyeshadow Quads in Irreverent Madame and Mademoiselle Sass. Irreverent Madame looks so much like the singles that Lancome already produces. It has a pale white shimmer, pale pink shimmer, bold magenta, and a sparkling glittery black. All of these are already offered by Lancome. In fact I have a GWP mini eyeshadow quad that looks identical to this. Mademoiselle Sass is the nice warm tone look with a honey shimmer, champagne shimmer, bronze shimmer, and a chocolate brown. These retail for $42. Will the prices ever stop going up! I remember when these were $30. There are two Color Design Pro Cooling Gel Illuminator for Eyes and Face that retail for $20. Think a more expensive and less expansive version of Maybelline Cool Effects. There is High Expectations and Hard To Get. Both are shimmery and pretty neutral gold/bronzes. There are two Laque Liner Long-Lasting Eyeliners that retail for $25. I like Artliner better but these are OK. There is Pure Black and Pure Sparkle, a glittery liner. There are 5 Le Crayon Khol Waterproof Eyeliner that go for $23.50. The quality is pretty nice and wears for a long time. There is Irreverent Brown (dark brown), Rebellious Berry (a medium cranberry that a dyed redhead like myself could rock), Blanc Audacity (eye opening white), and Confidence Noir (a pitch black).

FACE: Two sheer Blush Subtil blushes have been featured. There is High Maintenance for cool skintones and looks and Extravagance for warm skintones and looks. Both retail for $29.50.

LIPS & NAILS: There are three Color Fever Lipsticks in Mademoiselle, Forget Me Not, and Pink Attitude that retail for $25. All are shimmery and sheer to be worn with bold eyes. There are four La Laque Fever Lipcolors that are really nice. They are shiny and shimmery and long wearing.  They go for $26. I love Electric Pink which is a bright Barbie pink shimmer. There are Optical Rose (pale pink shimmer), Lucent Nude (light warm bronze) and Iridescent (pinkish brown shimmer). There are four Color Fever Plumper Lip Gloss that retail for $29. There is Fuschia Flaunt (shimmery berry), City Mauve (shimmery neutral), Downtown Pink (rosey shimmer), and Rose Punk (pale pink shimmer). There is the awesome Color Fever Lip Gloss in Piha Black which is a sheer volcanic ash black shimmer that looks great alone or worn over other colors to deepen them. Retails for $25. There are two cool Le Vernis Nail Colors in Sassiness which is a super pale posh pink and Piha Black which is a silvery shimmering black. Both retail for $18.

Overall the collection is fun and contains a few nice things. I can’t get over how much Lancome’s prices have went up. I like this look but I am kind of sick of it at the same time. I did wear this look out a few years ago so it just doesn’t feel “new”. I also feel it only would look good on blondes and really dark hair. No mousey browns or redheads allowed.
