Françoise Hardy has it all. Talent, brains, beauty. That’s why she is one of my favorite style icons. When I had my blunt bangs and a haircut much like this one, I used to wear heavy eye makeup like this. It was such a cool look. The eyeliner isn’t easy if you’ve never done it before. I suggest practice. Once you get it down, you can get this look in under 10 minutes from my experience. These are the products that I use to get this look:

FACE: The complexion is pretty fuss-less but it needs to be evened out. Apply concealer if and where needed. Clinique All About Eyes Concealer does great under the eyes. I like to use MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation to even out the entire complexion. Use a bronzer as blush and apply with a fluffy brush. I like the shade and price of Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Light.

EYES:
Luckily my blunt bangs covered my messy brows. Brush less than perfect brows into place with a clear brow gel like Revlon Brow Styling Gel. Apply a tinted eyeshadow base such as L’Oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base. This will keep your liner from budging. There are many products that you can use to get this thick liner look. I personally prefer the following: Clinique Water-Resistant Eye Liner in Natural Black (not pictured) or MAC Fluidline in Black Track. Both are very versatile items with no flaking or wandering. The Clinique one is a softer, matte black. The MAC one is a bit deeper and has a more consistent texture. First, “draw-in” your line. I line closely to the lashline and flick out like a classic cat-eye. Then under the crease I draw a desired line. I then fill it in with the liner on the brush. Everyone has a preferred liner brush. I am more comfortable with a fine point liner and not the slanted kind. It is all about what you are comfortable with. Remember to let it dry before blinking or completely opening lines. Sometimes I would take a shadow brush and apply a matte black shadow Larenim Eye Shadow in Ashes to Ashes to “set” it. You can also take the black powder shadow and line bottom lashes closely. Apply lots of black mascara like L’Oreal Voluminous Original Volume Building Mascara in Blackest Black.
LIPS: Lips are nude. If your lips have a bit of color and don’t appear washed out, just apply a slightly tinted lip balm like mark Tinted Sheenstick Lip Balm in Fanciful. If you need a bit of color use a color like Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Perfect Nude.

Prescriptives Well Suited fall collection reminds me of Dior’s fall collection last year and a slew of others. The inspiration is menswear and fabric. Once again, masculine chic is in this fall: vests, fedoras, button ups. It’s a bit dandy, Garbo, and 70’s Charlie Girl all in one. I’m not complaining, I love this look for fall fashions. Well Suited collection has those perfect shades for fall and since it is Prescriptives there is a compact/color for all complexions, eye colors, hair colors. The focus for this collection is on the eyes. All limited edition items come in a tweed like packaging. All items are available at Prescriptives.

EYES: There are 3 Eye Compacts that retail for $40. Each compact contains 5 eyeshadows. The Warm compact contains shades of warm beige, warm medium brown, soft olive drab, warm dark brown, and a calm ocean teal. I really think that this compact would be very flattering on blue eyes since the warm shades will provide a nice contrast. The Cool compact contains light pink shimmer, dirty mauve, dusty grey, soft burgundy plum, and a rich eggplant. I think this compact would look amazing on hazel and green eyes. Those cool plum shades will make the green stand out. The Neutral compact contains a light beige, cool light brown, deeper brown shimmer, lead pencil grey, and a matte black. This compact should go with all eye colors. There are 4 shades of the new Long Wearing Kohl Liners. It is like a kohl but with a retractable tip. It retails for $17.50 and comes in Black, Slate, Brown, and Blue. Evidently this liner is supposed to wear nicely on the inner rim of eyes because it is waterproof and smooth. (I never do this, my eyes are too small as is). Lash Envy Mascara has been relaunched for the collection.

LIPS: There are 4 shades (3 LE) of Colorscope Lipcolor for $17.50. There is Posh Honey (creamy latte cream), Posh Ginger (warm copper shimmer), Posh Nude ( a super soft mauve cream), and Posh Pink (creamy light plum berry). Obviously, the lips are sheer/nude for this collection. My favorites are Posh Honey because it is a great lipcolor that goes with a smoky eye and Posh Nude because it is so “everyday”.

FACE: There is a Finishing Powder in Translucent for $28. It is a sheer shimmer pressed powder complexion perfector.

Jungle animal trends are popular again this summer. MAC’s collection has that vibe and so does Smashbox. It only makes sense since safari prints and trends are so popular in clothing and accessories this summer as well.”Untamed” contains many pretty, deep, and mysterious shades.

FACE: There is a Creamy Cheek Color in Terracotta. This is a sheer color that is like the name implies, a terracotta. It can also be worn on the lips. It retails for $24. Sephora is offering a High Lights Cheek Luminizer. This is a long-wearing pink shimmer cream. It goes for $24.

EYES: There are 2 Waterproof Shadow Liner Trios. These are long wearing creams. There is Savage (yep, they went there); it contains a deep “jungle” green shimmer, nude champagne gold shimmer, and a deep chocolate brown shimmer. The other is Exotic; it contains a deep eggplant shimmer, pinky champagne shimmer, and a dusty mauve shimmer. Both are great for brown eyes, Exotic is great for green and hazel eyes. These retail for $29. The texture is OK but I must add that the lid be on tightly or these babies will dry out and be useless. That is the downside to waterproof cosmetics 😦 There is a Double-Ended Eye Brightener. This is really a jumbo “eyeliner” pencil that can be used as a highlighter for eyes or face. It contains a pinky champagne and a soft honey gold (think Benefit Tequila). It is a nice product but I don’t think I’ll fork over the $22 for it.

LIPS: There are 2 Lip Glosses. One is Raw which is a shimmery brick red. I really like this one on tan skin. The other is Flesh which is a satiny nude that looks great with dark eye makeup. These go for $18.

I am truly apathetic about this collection. I don’t dislike it other than its offensive names. I’m not in love with it either. It is one I’ll pass up this summer. The colors are OK but I have many of these things in my collection already. I must add that I do find these great “colors” for medium to tan complexions. They aren’t the typical “bronzes” of the season but they still look summery.

So I really don’t expect for many people to go out in this. I sure wish I could but even I have limits so I am giving an “everyday” interpretation of this look. I must add that I have a bit of a Liz Taylor as Cleopatra complex. I love the makeup. I wear this much many days if you exclude the wild brows. I love the blunt bangs. And I would love to wear the braids and beads if I didn’t end up looking too much like Rick James. I love the jewelry. I collect snake jewelry and I would dare to wear a snake cuff on my flabby arm.

To get this look you need a super matte face. Apply a powder foundation like MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in your shade. Apply concealer where needed. Try a full coverage like Beneft Boi-Ing in your shade. Brows are filled in and dark if you so desire. For black Cleopatra brows, apply Billion Dollar Brows Brow Powder in Raven, a soft black. Apply a nice shadow primer like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin. Pat gently. I would go with an eyeshadow palette like Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ludwig available at Sephora. Apply Downtown which is a medium brown shimmer from lashline to brows. Take Baroque, a bronzey brown shimmer and apply from lashline to just above the crease and blend. Take Lucifer, the matte charcoal black, and blend into the crease and down with a very heavy hand. (I must add that these shadows are pretty nice quality and make for lots of nice smoky, Cleopatra eyes). Now to the heavy amounts of black eyeliner. I recommend a gel formula like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink. Line the top eye with line and extend as far as you feel comfortable with. This line should be pretty thick when applied above the lashline. Line the bottom lashline with the gel liner and extend until it meets the top extended line. Join the lines together for that special Egyptian inspired look. Apply false lashes or tons of mascara to complete the eye look. Cheeks are super nude. Apply a sheer nude powder like Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Nude. Lips are nude and matte. If you have a warm skin tone apply Revlon Matte Lipstick in Nude Attitude. If you have a cool skin tone apply Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Lip Gloss in Defeaning Silence. You may want to apply a clear lip balm before you wear such a nude shades to keep lips from looking too splotchy. Fragrance should be luxe and exotic and that is why I would recommend L’Occitane Eau d’Iparie EDT.

This is the classic hottie look. Long blonde hair and too much black eyeliner. Neither look good on me. The haircolor being worse than the eye makeup on my complexion. I guess that is why I envy this look so much. I can’t really pull it off and I feel I can pull anything off. Smear some red eyeshadow on me or safety cone orange blush on my cheeks or black lip gloss. I can do that but I really can’t do this Bardot look. I still try. When I line my eyes like this, I just look insane. Alot like this gal is today. Just kidding. I believe in the freedom of speech and whatever she says is her prerogative if I agree with it or not. I don’t fine, that is the just the French government.

Anyways apply a tinted moisturizer for this look and concealer where needed.  Try a warm tinted moisturizer like Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinte in a shade darker for a sunkissed look. Apply a bronzer if needed. My all time favorite is NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna. Apply with a huge fluffy brush like Sephora Bronzer brush all over the face. Brows are super natural and messy but not too messy. Apply a clear brow gel like Revlon Brow Styling Gel in Clear. Apply Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in Ready To Beige all over the lid. Brush Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in Khakis from the lashline to the crease. Apply more or less depending on your skintone. Take a solid black and smooth eye liner pencil like Dior Waterproof Crayon Eyeliner in Trinindad Black, and line all the way around the eyes. Apply a thicker line on the upper lashline and still use a heavy hand but a thinner line on the bottom lashline. Apply tons of black as tar mascara or false lashes. Apply mascara to the bottom lashes as well. Cheeks are very bare. Reapply bronzing powder to the cheeks for extra depth. Lips are nude with just a bit of glimmer. Apply Lancome La Laque Fever in Neutral Current all over lips. Fragrance is simple and elegant so I recommend an intimate fragrance like Crazylibellule and the Poppies Solid Perfume from Les Divines Alcoves in Presque Nue.

Every now and then I go through a 70s phase. Or at least what I thought was glamorous of the 70s, things like tans and jumpers. I guess I am feeling a bit washed out here in the Northwest. So I just want that 70s ideal of a “healthy” and “young” look. Yes, I have even considered going to the tanning salon even though I know that is horrible for you skin, etc. I’ve never done such a thing before but of course I was living in the South and there I actually saw the sun and felt the warmth of its rays every now and then. I didn’t even know I could get so pale. I mean I’m right there with Dita Von Teese. And I wore sunblock when I lived in the South. I wore that stuff daily and I still had “color”. Anyways, enough of my complaining and back to this Farrah fab look.

I look this look but Farrah looks a bit dry, maybe all that sun? I would suggest applying a tinted moisturizer for a bit of dewy complexion. One can’t look “healthy” without being a little dewy. Use something like Clarins Hydra Care Tinted Moisturizer if you are fairly dry with cool undertones. If you aren’t either or these then use something else. Follow with bronzer. My all time favorite is NARS Bronzing Powder. Apply with a large bronzing brush and apply where the sun would “naturally” hit. You guys may have to remind me of these points since I live like in the Artic Circle and seem to forget these sorts of things. Brows are pretty natural and soft. Just brush them into place with a clear brow gel such as The Body Shop Brow and Lash Gel. Apply a nude eye shadow from lash line to brows. Apply the lightest shade from Bare Escentuals Meet The Nuts kit; this shade is Pistachio Light which is a sheer nude. From the lash line to crease apply the medium shade, Pecan Medium, and blend. The eyes are dark. Apply the darkest shade, Chestnut Dark, around the lash line, smudging outward for a perfect smoky eye. I love a brown smoky eye. It really makes eyes pop and is usually OK to wear all the time. Line the eyes with a black eyeliner for extra drama (if needed), use something like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Zero. Apply tons of mascara. You need dramatic lashes to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays 🙂 Now to the blush. Apply Cargo Beach Blush in Cable Beach to cheeks or you can apply more bronzer to cheeks. I do like a little bit of  “color”. Lips are nude and natural. Apply a balm such as Revlon Beyond Natural Protective Lip Tint in Nude. For fragrance I am thinking of Origins Ginger Essence for some reason. Maybe because it is spicy without being too heavy? Now, to hair, no, maybe not.

When the weather gets a bit chilly I start thinking a bit more “tropical”. I love deep berry lips in the winter but sometimes I just want this kind of look. I want to pull out the Pucci scarves and pretend I’m a drug lord’s wife. I want to be tan and I want killer eye makeup. To get Sophia’s look apply tinted moisturizer in your shade. I like Estee Lauder Daywear Plus Tint because it smells like cucumbers and that is sure to get you out of a winter rut. Apply concealer if needed. Apply bronzer if your skin is still sallow. I like Milani Powder Bronzer in Medium. It’s cheap and does the job. Fill in brows with a powdery brow pencil like Lancome Le Crayon Poudre Brow Pencil. Fill in brows and take the spoolie and brush them into place. Apply a nude shadow from lashline to brows, something like the lightest shade in Physcian’s Formula Matte Eyeshadow Quad in Canyon Classics. Take the shade to the right of the lightest and apply from lashline to almost the brow bone. Take the deepest shade in the compact and go from lashline to crease for a smoky look. Blend with an eyeshadow brush and apply more of the lightest shade on the brow bone if needed. Get a soft deep liner such as Givenchy Magic Khol Eye Liner Pencil in Black and line the top lashline extending outward in a cat eye motion. Line the bottom lashes too. Keep extending this line outward and upward but do not connect with the top line. This adds extra drama and flash. Love this look. Apply false lashes for a true Sophia look or tons of mascara. Cheeks are bronze. Apply more bronzer to the cheeks or a brownish mauve blush such as Benefit Dallas if you need “color”. Apply bronzer or blush with a large fluffy brush to avoid streaking. Lips are sheer and nude with hint of soft pink. Apply Origins Sheer Stick in Pink Lemonade to lips. Fragrance should be tropical, fruity, and floral. I am thinking of something like Ebba Miss Danielle Parfum Oil which is a blend of grapefruit and jasmine. Now it’s time to sip Mai Tais and listen to exotica and pretend a shipment is coming in on your old man’s yacht.
