I’m giving a “pale” look for summer. It’s time to take a break from bronzers and gold shimmer.

FACE: To get this look apply a foundation such as Clinique Even Better Makeup (this is a foundation that lightens dark spots!). Apply concealer where needed. I like the creaminess of Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. Take a fluffy powder brush and apply a pressed powder such as L’Oreal True Match Powder. Cheeks barely have any color. Apply a very light dusting of a sheer pinky peach blush like Everyday Minerals Matte Blush in Nick Nack to the apples of the cheeks.

EYES: Yvette’s thick brows are very dark in this pic. Take a slanted brow brush and apply a warm brown brow powder. For a color like Yvette’s try Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Brow Color in Brunette. With a large shadow brush, apply a pale ivory matte shadow such as Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone. Take a damp slanted liner brush and apply a cake eyeliner in a dark brown shade. I like Nvey Eco Cake Eyeliner in Brown. Apply a thick line, halfway to the crease. Do not “wing” out. Keep wetting and filling in. Take a fine liner brush that isn’t wet, rub it across the cake liner. Apply this to the bottom lash line to “thicken” the bottom lashes. Apply a few coats of mascara such as Too Faced Pinpoint Lash Injection in Hot Chocolate to top lashes and one coat to bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are so nude. I would start by applying a lip primer to take the “pink” out of the lips. Try a tinted product like Origins Underwear for Lips Perfecting Lip Primer. Apply a coat or two of MAC Lipglass in Florabundance. This is a pale peach with a little pink. I use it all the time to get this pale lip.

With the fragrance, I have to be so literal. I think a nice peony scent like Becker Eshaya b.e. EDP would fit perfectly for this look.

To be honest, I think the only reason that I like this summer collection is because of the packaging. It’s a “print” that is found throughout my home decor. (Think Thomaspaul creepy sealife prints found on pillows, etc. and antique sealife prints). The motifs are the ones featured on the model’s ill-fitting swimsuit. The colors aren’t anything new. In fact, many are the same colors MAC has all year but in snazzy summer packaging.

The collection describes itself as such: “The seaside has a kind of golden, sexy alchemy we’re all drawn to. This collection encapsulates it with the most soothing, sultry shades of summertime. A safe way to bronze, beautify, and get colour that looks sun-kissed. Close your eyes, and go To The Beach!” This is true. What would a summer collection be without bronzers and golden tones? After seeing this collection on-line, I ran to the local MAC store.

EYES: There are 5 Eyeshadows. Each are packaged in an adorable avocado fruit green with a seashell “stamped” on a see-thru window. Sand & Sun is a matte peach that is perfect for making the lids of the peaches n’cream complexions appear even. Firecracker is a shimmery reddish shade that looks much better mixed with colors than worn alone. Sweet & Punchy is a lovely chartreuse shimmer. Shimmermoss is an aqua shimmer that mixes beautifully with gold. Humid is a shimmery, deep green that makes a great smoky eye or liner. All the colors are nice but I already own Shimmermoss and Humid. I was tempted by Sweet & Punchy but I can get a similar effect with Bitter. Each retail for $14.50. There are 2 Eye Kohls that have a coral motif that matches the color of the kohl. There is Rosemary & Thyme, a medium olive shimmmer, and Float On By, a deep turquoise. Both are nice but I already own similar colors. Rosemary & Thyme would look stunning on brown-eyed redheads. The pencils retail for $14.50.

LIPS: There are 4 Lipsticks in an orange case with a seashell “stamp”. Beachbound is a neutral light shimmery peach. Lazy Day is an “everyday” dusty pink. Thrills is a rose with gold shimmer. Funbathing is a California Red Plum with bronze shimmer. I love the packaging of the lipsticks but I didn’t fall in love with any of the colors. Funbathing is nice but I didn’t love it. I think it would be a nice “plum” for deeper complexions and olive complexions. Lipsticks retail for $14. There are 3 Tinted Lipglass with an orange top and an adorable seahorse “stamp”. Colors include Easy Lounger (pale pink shimmer), Flurry of Fun (neutral peach shimmer), and Splashing (blue-ish mauve with shimmer, makes teeth appear whiter). I like the packaging but didn’t fall in love with any of the colors. These retail for $14. There are 2 Lip Pencils. The packaging matches the Eye Kohl. There is Life’s A Breeze, neutral pink, and Temperature Rising, a bright orange. I see myself using something like Temperature Rising throughout the summer but I already have an orange lip liner that I love by NYX. These go for $13.

FACE: There are 2 Powder Blushes in a “super-sized” packaging that looks like the eye shadows. Hipness is a peach shimmer and Get-Away Bronze, a medium tan. Neither of these blushes did anything for me. Hipness wasn’t “bold” enough. These retail for $18.50. There’s a beautiful High-Light Powder but it lacks the adorable sea-life motif that I love about this collection. The powder is Marine Life and it is a swirl of pearl, bronze, peach and coral. There is a cute embossed sea horse on the powder. This of course disappears with a tap of a brush. It goes for $26. There are 2 Creme Bronzers (shell “stamp”) in Beach Bronze, a golden bronze, and Weekend, an “orangey” bronze. These are nice but I wouldn’t get much use out of them in the summer. I would do better by choosing a darker foundation for summer. These retail for $25. There are 2 shades of Bronzing Powder. The powder is packaged in an orange compact with a coral motif. I love this and this is the product that I almost purchased. Shades include Golden, a warm tan, and Refined Gold, a tan with gold shimmers. I didn’t buy one of these because the colors are available all year and I love my NARS Bronzer. There are 2 Lustre Drops. This pearly cream can be worn alone or mixed with otehr products for the face and body. There is Pink Rebel, a cool shimmery pink that works nicely with pale skin tones. This shade adds “light” without being the muddy bronze that many light skins can’t wear. Sun Rush is a flattering peachy bronze shimmer. These versatile “drops” retail for $18.50.

NAILS & BODY: There are 2 Nail Lacquers. I love In The Buff. This is a taupey, muddy olive. It’s a really strange shade but this is the freakish weird olive shade that I become when I tan. I wonder if they could make a foundation powder in this shade? The other colors is Scorcher. This is a coral red. It’s pretty but so many other brands offer colors just like this one, so it isn’t special like In The Buff. These polishes retail for $12. There is a nice Body Oil. It is an oil in a pump bottle that is infused with golden tan shimmers. I imagine that this product would look amazing on legs. I wanted to buy it but a little voice reminded me that I already have the NARS oil that is almost like this and the NARS smells better. This retails for $22.

So, I didn’t leave with any of these products. It isn’t that I didn’t like any of these items or the packaging. It’s just that since I’m a cosmetic addict, I already have so many colors like these. I promised myself years ago that I wouldn’t drag an item into my collection just because of packaging alone. I don’t always live up to my promise but I have matured and put my priorities in line. So, my collection does not have any To The Beach products because I’m being reasonable and I realize I already have these colors. This is the downside to owning one of everything. The colors are summery and predictable: bronze, coral, and turquoise. This isn’t anything new so it makes sense that my collection would include these summer staples. This collection is available at MAC’s website but you’ll have better luck visiting your local MAC store or counter because the website has sold out of most products. See that packaging “got” many beauty/cosmetic addicts 🙂

This look is easy and so great for summer. Everything I’m “using” is from the Origins line. It’s no-fuss and I love that.

FACE: Even out complexion with Origins Nude and Improved Makeup. It’s oil-free, long-wearing, and has SPF 15. This makes it a hit for summer. It’s a sheer formula, so your freckles will peek through! If you are oily/shiny, apply All or Nothing Sheer Pressed Powder. It’s portable and you can carry it around for touch-ups. Apply a small amount of Pinch Your Cheeks Gel Blush in Raspberry. This gives a healthy, natural looking glow. I can not live without gel blush or cheek stains in the summer.

EYES: If you have unmanageable brows, brush a little bit of Just Browsing Brow Shaper in your shade onto brows. Apply a light beige shadow such as Eyeshadow in Cream Tulle from lash line to brows. Apply a medium brown shadow such as Nutcracker from lash line to crease. I would take a liner brush and use this brown as a liner as well. Apply closely to top and bottom lash line to help make lashes appear fuller. Curl lashes and apply a coat or two of Fringe Benefits Mascara. Personally, I would reach for a brown or brown/black for this natural, warm look, but use whatever you have.

LIPS: The lips are nude. I would protect them with a swipe of Cover Your Mouth Lip Protector with SPF 8.

That’s it. You’re done. This is a free spirited look that is timeless. It works for everybody.

Again, I have fallen for a Guerlain color collection. This is of no surprise for this happens quite frequently. I love the Summer Splash collection, it is so beachy without being overly “tan” and “bronzed”. The packaging is beautiful and glamorous. The company describes this collection as “a mermaid basking under the sun.” I like the sound of that.

EYES: I have found a new favorite. I absolutely love The Loose Powder Kohl in Lagoon Blue. This is a shimmery sea blue with a hint of gold. It is a “warm” blue. It really works with my complexion. If you think you can’t wear blue, I bet you can wear this. I am light with warm undertones with blue eyes, I imagine that this would also work well with medium complexions with brown eyes. It goes for $34 and I think it is worth every penny. I mean just look at the packaging! There is an awesome eyeshadow quad, Ombre Éclat. It comes in a nice rose gold shaded compact with 4 shimmery shadows: white, rose gold, tan, and aqua. Once again, this is a very kind color combo for my complexion. I think natural redheads, dyed redheads could pull this one off too. It goes for $58. I think it is worth it. The formula is so smooth. The Le 2 Guerlain Waterproof Mascara is out at $35. It’s even available in a teal blue! I haven’t tried this. I’m trying to spend less on things like mascara. The single shadows, Ombre Éclat are available in special shades: Pearly White, a white gold shimmer, and Pearly Brown, a nice sandy brown shimmer. These go for $34.

LIPS: There is the Kiss Kiss Stick Gloss in 3 shades. This is a great formula that provides shiney, sheer color in a stick. There is Corail des Mers, a glossy coral, Grenades Des Iles, a brownish/coppery rose, and Rose Des Sables, a warm rose. These go for $30 and are in the pretty summer packaging.

FACE: It isn’t my little pearls of perfection, but it is so nice. I am in love with Illuminating Powder in Poudre des Sables. This is a pressed shimmer powder housed in a mother of pearl like packaging. The print resembles a shell and it is a mix of gold, rose, sable, tan. It is a flattering shade even for paler gals. It goes for $65. The Blush 4 Éclats Sculpting Blush has been relaunched. This is a great formula available in a variety of shades with a nice, soft fragrance. It goes for $48 and provides a nice glow. There is also an Illuminating Pressed Powder relaunch. These are like pressed, super shimmery Météorites. It is lovely with pearly shades of beige and pink. It reminds me of seashells and goes for $65. These are both great complexion enhancers.

Overall, as you can tell, I love this collection. I know I am biased because it really works for my complexion! Hey, we all get lucky sometime, right? This collection is available at most venues that carry Guerlain such as Nordstrom and other department stores in your area.

Weekly Cheap Secret:

This is one of those great drugstore products. Basically, it is the perfect summer moisturize. It is a lightweight lotion, not greasy and not very moisturizing either but really all I need during the summer when I sunscreen up anyways 😦 But, I must add that I am used to body oil and goopy body butters. That is my disclaimer. It is faintly scented. That doesn’t stick around at all so you can wear whatever fragrance you desire without your moisturizer getting in the way. Don’t worry this does not have that Original Jergen’s scent 🙂 What I love about this lotion is the shimmer. It has tons of tiny, finely milled gold shimmers. It looks amazing on tanned skin, any complexion really, because it “warms” it up. You are supposed to wait a few minutes before dressing because the shimmer may transfer on to clothes. I find myself impatient and rushed once I get out of the shower. Sometimes I dress immediately. I have gotten this on my clothes but it was no biggie. It washed out in the laundry and did not permanently stain. I somehow leave a glitter trail no matter where I go, so this didn’t bother me. If you let this dry, it will not budge. That is great. You will be shimmery all day! Do wash your hands unless you want gilded palms! I love to use this on my legs, everywhere, it really works with my complexion. I like it so much better than Michael Kors Leg Shine, which smells great but doesn’t give me a natural glow.

It’s a bummer because I can’t find this at any of the drugstores or superstores anymore. I order it from drugstore.com and it seems that many ladies are having this problem too. I hate that just because I hope it isn’t being discontinued because it is one of the best shimmer products on the market. I also read that a reviewer mixes this with body cream. That is a great idea. This is a little costly for a drugstore product and that will stretch it and it is hard to find. (I have been known to ration this product and only wear it when I know I will be showing some skin). Also you can customize how much moisture you need. It goes for about $7.50 for 7.5 ounces. I wish they would focus on this moisturizer again and stop coming out with all of those Natural Glow products, this is all I need!

I love a “peaches and cream” look. To get this gamine, simple look, I’m going to use Estee Lauder products.

First apply a sheer foundation if needed such as Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup. Apply concealer if and where needed. I like Smoothing Creme Concealer for the under eye area. If you have oily skin or fret about shine, apply a dusting of AeroMatte Pressed Powder. I personally like the sheerness and dewiness of Jane’s look. Apply a delicate sweeping of a blush such as Signature Powder Blush in Peach Nuance. This is a super sheer shade even on pale skintones, keep building until you get what you want. I recommend Deep Spice for darker skintones.

Brows are thick and well, darkened. To keep it super simple, apply a Brow Setting Gel if your brows are out of line. Eye makeup is super simple. Lightly brush a peachy beige shade such as Pure Color Eyeshadow in Peach from lashline to brows. Line eyes with a dark brown liner such as Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Coffee. Line closely to top and bottom lashlines to give the illusion of fullness. Apply a no-fuss mascara such as More Than Mascara in Black/Brown. The warmth in the browns used in this look will really make the peaches and cream look stand out.

The lips are what make this look so summery, sweet, and fresh. Keep them simple. No liner is needed. Apply Tender Lip Balm in Tender Peach. I love this conditioning formula. You’re finished! Well, I do recommend a spritz of Aliage. It is a nice way to top off a laid-back vintage look.

“Safari” fashion has been big this summer. Everything is khaki, olive, and very ‘Ernest Hemingway African safari” in both clothing and makeup. MAC has introduced “Style Warrior” for this summer. It’s style is still on par with other brands for this summer but it is much more “fierce”.

The packaging for all of the products is bronze with animal prints and “tribal” designs. I am a sucker for anything animal print so I really like the limited edition packaging.I believe the “leopard” print is for warmer undertones and the “zebra” print is for cooler undertones.

EYES: There are 5 Eye Shadows that retail for $14.50. There is Night Manoeuvres which is a smoky deep taupe. I love it on all eye colors. There is Soft Force which is a pale gold shimmer that works nicely on pale to medium skintones. There is Vibrant Grape which is a magenta. I think this would be amazing on medium skin to dark skintones with brown eyes or even green eyes. Bright Future is a bright yellow gold shimmer that will make blue eyes pop. And there is Tempting, a warm brown shimmer that is a beautiful neutral for summer. An Eye Kohl Pencil in Smolder (black) and Pro Lash Mascara have been relaunched.

LIPS & NAILS: There are 4 Lipsticks that retail for $14.00. Sunsational is a warm gold neutral that pairs nicely with a smoky eye. Brave New Bronze which is a pinky bronze neutral. Tribalist is a satin blackberry, I think it is my favorite lipstick in the collection. And there is Purple Rite which is a violet shimmer. I think this would be nice paired with a forest green smoky eye. There are 4 Lipglass Lip Glosses that go for $14. Liberated is a sheer gold that will add warmth over any shade. Gold Rebel is a coppery gold shimmer. Fierce & Fabulous is a frosty purpley pink, great for pale skins with dark hair. Style Warrior (my fave) is a blackened burgundy bronze. If your lips have a natural brown tone to them, this would be stunning. There are 3 Nail Lacquers. THere is Peaceable which is a super shimmery metallic golden beige. I love it with a tan. Mercenary which is a bronze with dark bronze shimmers, very “antiqued”. The last one is Violet Fire which is a bright magenta purple shimmer. Nail Colors go for $11.

FACE: There are 2 Beauty Powder Blushes. One is Eversun which is a bronze with gold shimmers, perfect for darker skins. THe other is On A Mission, a natural pinky plum. Both go for $18. There are 2 Bronzing Powders. One is Refined Gold and the other Solar Rich, retail for $21.  Items that have been relaunched: Solar Bits (love those babies), Lustre Drops, Iredescent Loose Powder, Skinsheen Leg Spray, and brushes.

Animal print bags have been launched with this collection. I like the collection but I haven’t purchased anything from it. There appears to be nothing that I don’t already own. If I fall for it, it would be because of the packaging.
