Parfums des Beaux Arts by DSH Lili is a pretty, dainty “muguet” floral. It’s a girly, flirty fragrance that is fairly simple. It is described as “Delicate. Feminine. Elegant.” I definitely agree with this. It smells so delicate like lily of the valley. This fragrance almost smells “fragile” like the dainty, white bells of the lily of the valley. I am a fan of muguet fragrances. I love their floralness and the coolness that they have. The note makes for perfect spring fragrances and they are nice for summer too. It’s floral and fresh. But, when added with sweet citrus, linden, and mimosa you get something so light, carefree, and feminine.

Lili is like I said before, simple. However, it is different from other lily of the valley fragrances because the top notes are citrus. This is such a nice touch and this what makes this fragrance special. You get sweet lime peel. This is zesty but not abrasive. It’s still light. In fact, it smells more of sweet lime zest and citrus blossoms such as lime blossom. It is zesty but delicate. Linden blossoms are like a lime blossom, usually sweeter like honey. I am definitely picking them up in this fragrance. (I love linden blossoms, so refreshing, neighbor’s tree is in bloom; bees are everywhere). This fragrance is a beautiful interpretation of spring and lily of the valley. It’s special because of the tart sweetness of lime peel and linden blossoms. Linden and mimosa also add a “fluffy”, powdery element. ( I need to say that this isn’t a “powdery” fragrance. It’s a mimosa powdery fragrance, floral.) These notes make this scent seem so clean and fresh. It’s not your average lily of the valley perfume.

The fragrance is close wearing and light. If it was a fabric it would have to be a transparent cotton gauze. It’s so airy and lightweight/sheer. I really do love this scent. It’s a very feminine citrus and a cool floral. I find it very special. Special enough to add to my collection which already contains “lily” scents. This one is much more carefree and fresher than those in my collection.

The Mainstream Monday: Sniffing A Popular Fragrance

Vera Wang Princess is one of those fragrances obviously marketed to a younger crowd. The closest it gets to senior is senior in high school. It doesn’t mean that you have to be a teen to like it, it is just obvious this is who the company was banking on. The fragrance is a sweet oriental blend and very different from the other Vera Wang fragrances. It’s pretty light and light wearing. Not overwhelming. It isn’t horrible but I just don’t like it. Of course, I’m older and I’m not wild about sweet fragrances; it’s a personal thing.

What really stands out to me the most in Princess is the dark chocolate note. When I wear this is this the overwhelming note. It isn’t bad, just not what I want. It wears like a teenage version of Mugler’s Angel. It’s chocolaty and woodsy with sweet powdery hints of vanilla and amber. Did I mention the hints of sugary frosting as well? I can tell that the fragrance contains everything including fruits and flowers but on me, I just get all the sweet notes. The bottom line is that this is a sweet fragrance. My sisters are teenagers and love this scent. They like it because it isn’t too fruity or floraly. And for them and their lack of exposure to other “grown-up” scents, they think this is heavy and sexy because of the wood and amber base. So the product is genius in that aspect. It’s a sexy and sophisticated scent in their eyes even though it isn’t heavy. So moms, don’t worry, you won’t be gagging when you are dropping your daughters and their friends off at the movie theater when you are stuck in the SVU with 4 teenage girls wearing this.

My verdict is that this scent is definitely not for me. I find it generic and boring, too sweet and foody. It smells like a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting was smeared on me while I was wearing a generic amber, woods, and musk based fragrance. I love the dry-down of the base notes after a few hours. It’s woodsy and amber-ish. It’s very pretty but I can get that from other scents without the sweetness. Since it is a sweet fragrance, I would recommend it for cooler weather wear. I don’t like this but I can see how others can. If you like sweet, gourmand oriental fragrances then you’ll most likely like this one. Sweet, gourmand orientals aren’t my favorite but they do have a time and a place and I know some people love them.

The bottle is really cute, the epitome of cute things. They should just put a pic of a fuzzy, white kitten on it and be done. Once again, this is what my sisters rave about. They love having it out on their dresser in their lilac painted room. The bottle feels heavy and sturdy. And I have to admit that even I think it is cute.

I would say you would like this if you are a teen, haha, if you like chocolate based or dessert sweet fragrances or if you like Carolina Herrera 212 Sexy, Aquolina Pink Sugar, Ralph Lauren Ralph Hot, Fresh Canabis Santal, Mugler Angel and/or mark Jewel. Vera Wang Princess Perfume for Women Eau De Toilette Spray 1.7 Oz by Vera Wang

It isn’t that I dislike Dior Addict 2, it is just that I can’t get over how it totally defines like 5-10 years of main stream perfumes. Spritzing on Addict 2 is like a 10 year time warp to 2000. It is a time capsule in a bottle. It is everything that was the rage. I felt like perfumes were only being made for “young” people through 1999-2006. Everything was young, “flirty”, and mostly “pink”. Dior had to jump on the bandwagon as well in 2005. And they know there are dated. How many freaking limited edition flankers have they created since launching this stuff? And how many “lighter” versions have they made to compensate for this “gum smacking 14 year old mall rat with a fake hot pink Coach bag all up in your face” fragrance?

Addict 2 is hissy but not offensive. It smells “light”, “young”, and “carefree”. It is an aquatic, fruity citrus, with a hint of white musk and hissy flowers like freesia. It contains all of the pink fruits such as grapefruit and watermelon.It is meant to be “energetic”. It contains notes of grenadine and it does smell of alcoholic fruits. At initial spritz it is citrusy with notes of bergamot and grapefruit. Then it is all fruity-floral from then on. It is melon-y, grenadine-ish, and super floral freesia (one of my least favorite floral notes). It is made aquatic by “water lotus” and other super obvious chemical experiment notes. It is grounded and dries down to a white musk. For the last few hours it is like a bergamot, white musk blend on me. (Actually, that isn’t too bad. But, it is that white musk that is sooo 2000.) It isn’t a poorly blended fragrance and for a fragrance marketed to “girls” it isn’t so bad. It isn’t a Dior masterpiece but it sure made them some money in the new millennium. I also feel they should of dropped the “Addict” namesake and just named it something else, something younger. You’re not getting any of your Addict clientele with this one. Move on Dior.

I was shocked when the ad campaign hit. I mean a 12 year old wearing makeup in their underpants selling a “sexy” and “intoxicating” product. And our society wants to hate on pedophiles when companies like Dior hyper-sexualize minors. But, that calls for an entirely new post. The company states, “Inspired by the Dior Girly collection, this tangy fruity-floral incarnates a bubble of optimism and mischievous femininity for the innocently sexy girl.” WTF? A slightly naughty but naively happy fragrance for the slutty little girl tease that doesn’t know if she is attractive or not and that hasn’t quite figured exactly why that “Blondes Do It Better” tee is inappropriate to wear to youth group meet-ups? I had to attach the ad and ask you “Do you know where your 13 year old daughter is at tonight?” Hopefully, she is not purchasing perfume.

For a hissy EDT it wears OK. It lasts an entire work day on me about 7 hours. I can see people like this if they are 14, like Lancome Miracle, Victoria Secret Garden fragrances, Victoria Secret Pink, YSL Baby Doll, Gucci EDP II, Clinique Happy In Love, and/or J.Lo Love at First Glow. The 1.7 oz. is $65 and the 3.4 oz. is $85. A Shimmer Body Lotion is also available.

OK, so I am not really one for celebrity scents. Even though I am not opposed to them. I mean a celebrity selling their name with a scent makes way more sense to me than a TV show such as Desperate Housewives or 90210 fragrances. I’m not going to dog Paris Hilton. The poor gal has had enough of that and frankly it doesn’t matter to me. They’re all just jealous that she is a super rich bitch that didn’t have to work for any of it and oh, she’s skinny.  I know that is my beef. The Paris Hilton EDP isn’t original or mind blowing but it isn’t terribly offensive either. It’s a fruity floral. Emphasis on the fruity part. It smells of melon liquor/ Midori and a sour apple Jolly Rancher as the top note. Emphasis on sour sweet. It’s synthetic fruity sweet and not cupcake sweet. This makes it very “young” and  appropriate for tweens. The sugar rush is followed by heady florals such as jasmine and tuberose. This makes it tolerable for me. It needs that prissy element to add a bit of maturity. It dries down to a warm generic musk and sandalwood. This makes it stick and not be so much like a body spray even though the bottle and top notes will lead you to believe it is one. The perfume is very “young” and seems like it was marketed to the 10 to 20 year old crowd. This means you’ll be seeing alot more of it at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s since Miss Paris herself is closer to the 30 year old crowd and seems to be trying to grow up a bit. The fragrance isn’t horrible. It smells like it’s trying to be hygienic and fresh and trying to smell nice. Like I said before it isn’t rank or offensive. It is just the epitome of the fruity-floral genre. If you like Ralph Lauren Ralph, Gucci Envy Me, Juicy Couture, any of the Harajuku Lovers, or any of the LE Escada scents then you’ll like this no matter what your age. It somehow manages to be a prissy fruity-floral.
