I read that Too Faced was thinking about making a Smurf makeup collection not too long ago. I was really hoping they wouldn’t go there. I’m not much of one for these cross-over product gimmicks. I mean the Smurfs have always kind of creeped me out. There’s like one girl in the entire village and she comes across as a slut. Plus, I didn’t really understand it watching it as a child and I felt bad for the kitty cat. I didn’t know why they were so mean to that ruff looking kitty. And there was that one mentally retarded smurf that everyone was mean too, and they had an odd language/idiolect. However, they live in mushrooms. Being a mushroom hunter I do think that is pretty cool. But, I know that they only lived in mushrooms because only drug heads and little hippie children watched the show.

This Smurfette Signature Collection contains the following products:

FACE: There is a So Smurfy Illumination Face Powder which is a blend of complexion enhancing color-correcting shades in a smurf paper compact. I have to admit that this is kind of cute. I am a sucker for powders as art. I mainly purchase them and look at them and well, never use them.

EYES: There are two new shades of Smurfy-Eyed Liquid Eyeliner in Feel’n Smurfy which is a multi-colored glitter and Smurf You which is a bright blue which I love. The top has Miss Smurfette on top, looking bashful as always. There is a So Smurfy Eye Shadow Quad. It has two beautiful taupey brown shimmers, shimmery pink, and a shimmery blue. It is also in that smurf packaging.

LIPS: There is a Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Lip Gloss in a Smurf packaging. This is supposed to work with your “body” heat and swing from a blue shimmer to a pink. I never try these because I am scared that it will “swing” too much and if I was mad at somebody they would know because my lips would turn cobalt blue or something. Silly, I know. I am sure this stuff just turns pink on everybody.

I don’t think I am going to “go there” and purchase any of these items. There aren’t many cartoons I would endorse on cosmetics, just Jem, really. I am a fan of Smurf blue and if there was a liquid liner truly in that shade I would “go” for it.

I bought this for someone else and now I want to keep it. This limited edition kit retails for $25 and is only available from sephora.com I really thought that the products would be much smaller but they are pretty large for travel size products. Many of these sell for about $8 by themselves in the travel sizes at the L’Occitane store. First off, it is very fragrant and very much a fresh lemon verbena citrus. I could smell this stuff in the box it was shipped in that was stuffed with packaging stuff. The kit contains the following four 2.5 sized items: Verbena Shower Gel, Verbena Body Lotion, Verbena Shampoo, and the Verbena Conditioner. It also contains a 3.5 ounce of the Verbena Bar Soap. This is a great sampler for those that want to try these products and it is a great purchase if you already use these items. They are perfect for holiday travel. The scent is very fresh and a must if you like citrus. It is lemony but not in a furniture polish way. I like the fragrance but I find that my skin devors citrus scents and they last like five minutes on my skin.

This is truly a regal and beautiful color collection. Chantecaille is the best because it seems that they are always plastering wildlife onto cosmetics. I love it. This “collection” offers three lovely compacts.

We have the White Tiger Face Powder Compact. It is a light slightly shimmery face powder enriched with Monoi. I love monoi. The powder has a lovely white tiger on it and is in a beautiful gold mirrored case. It retails for $85. For those of us that want some “color” in the dead of winter, we have the Bengali Bronzer. It is a shimmery medium bronze with a golden imprinted tiger on it. It is also in a golden compact and comes with a brush. It retails for $85. And like the White Tiger compact, it is about too pretty to use. There is also the Bengali Powder Palette. It has two cheek colors with tiger imprints: a light pale gold shimmer highlighter and a peach. It has four eyeshadows in a jungle green, dusty silver lilac, rich espresso brown, and a medium bronze. It is all housed in a gold compact and comes with a bronze pouch. It retails for $117.  There is a lip gloss trio that is housed in a bronze pouch. It comes with Crystalline, a pale shimmery gold, Glaze, a warm golden red, and Patina which is a deep shimmery wine. All of these glosses are in must have shades that I love to wear in the winter. This set goes for $68.

Overall, the collection is super luxiorous and has this warm take me to a resort vibe. I love the radiance. It is a bit like Lancome’s fall color story that was launched this year. It has that same warm, Indian inspired vibe. Regardless, I love it.

Lancôme C’est Magnifique Holiday 2008 Color Story is a bit predictable. It reminds me alot of other collections that have been launched recently, umm, Estee Lauder Vintage Jewels and a host of others. The colors are jewel tones and many shades are meant to be bold and dramatic for the holidays. It isn’t a horrible collection, it sure isn’t magnifique, but it is a nice collection if you don’t have colors like this. I think that Lancome has seen better days.

EYES: Colour Design LE Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Quad comes in Glamour Première which is a shimmery ruby set that would look amazing on brunettes and dyed redheads. The other is Hollywood Seductive which has shimmery metal shades and a deep sapphire. There is a Virtuôse Black Carat Mascara that is a black with shimmer. For some reason it gets on my nerves. I love the two new Artliner Liquid Eyeliners. There is Star Studded which is a dirty/antique gold shade and Midnight Glam which is alot like existing Blueberry but this blue is metallic. We have three Colour Design Sensational Effects Shimmering Eye Stylo. These are loose shadows in a tiny tube with a sponge tip applicator. They are alot like those that Victoria’s Secret have. The colors are Award Winning Gold which is a pale gold shimmer, Fashion Flair Bronze which is a lighter bronze, and Modelesque Plum which is a plummy mauve. These are pretty worn as a wash of color with lots of mascara and bold lips.

LIPS & NAILS: We five new Juicy Tubes with delicious gourmand fragrances. We have In All Her Splendor which is a cherry red, Luminous in Lace which is a pale bronzey shade, Showered in Diamonds which is a clear with tons of shimmer, Icon of Stage which is a dramatic plum, and Pretty In Pink which is a nude pale sheer pink. We have Le Rouge Absolu Lipstick in Cinema Noir (love this shade) which is a deep merlot, Bordeaux which is a satin reddish wine, Pampered which is a pale pink, and Golden Girl which is a golden bronze. Three Le Lipstiques Lip Liners have been featured: Charme which is a nudish brown peach, Enchantment which is a brickish red, and Mauvelle whihc is a perfect berry. I really like the two new nail shades in In All Her Splendor which is a shimmery seasonal red and Midnight Glam which is a shimmery cobalt.

FACE: Of course the normal ole face products have been relaunched. The real stars are Colour Ideal Illuminator in Shimmering Pink which is lovely on face and eyes. The blushes are Colour Design Cream Blush in Signature Look which is a peachy pale pink and Retro Rouge which is a firey blushing red.

Yves Saint Laurent Holiday Bow Color Collection is all about “wrapping” up 2008. There are some nice holiday items and the rest are well, relaunches. The colors aren’t horrible but they are predictable. I really liked the fall makeup collection better. It seemed “newer”. This collection offers us the following:

LIPS: Fard À Lèvres Rouge Pur Pure Lipstick in Honey Beige which is a warm peachy beige. This shade really works with dark eye makeup. We have Golden Gloss Shimmering Lip Gloss in Golden Burgundy. This is one of my fave holiday shades. It is a deep merlot with gold glimmer. Perfect with dark eyes for extra drama or minimal eye makeup. It just looks polished. We have the limited edition Bow Collection Duo Lip Colour Locket. This is a lip gloss duo housed in a golden bow compact. I believe it can be worn, the compact that is. It has a pinkish red lipstick and a pale pink lip gloss with blue shimmers. The colors are very beautiful and this duo is made to celebrate YSL’s 30 years in the makeup biz.

NAILS: La Laque Long Lasting Nail Lacquer in Dark Blue which is an almost black blue. I love it, so rich and gothic. The other is Moonlight White which is a milky white. Moonlight White would be great on fingers and Dark Blue on toes, or vice versa.

FACE & EYES: We have the Palette De Maquillage Multi-Usage Make Up Palette. This palette contains two deep eyeshadows in a shimmery navy and a deep midnight black, a pearly golden beige highlighter powder for face and eyes, a matte hot pink lipstick, and a clear glitter lip gloss all in a velvety YSL “bow” bag. This is so pretty. The Bow Collection Four Colour Eye Shadow has a shimmery deep plum, dusty lilac shimmer, pale mauve shimmer and a purpley brown shimmer. The eyeshadows are in a golden “bow” case. We have the Touche D’Or Golden Touch for Face in a sheer gold “liquid”. Top Secrets Flash Radiance Skincare Brush has been relaunched. And we have a lovely holiday makeup kit with minis: Holiday Set. It contains a black satin tuxedo YSL logo bag, a Touche Eclat Radiance Pen, a Golden Gloss in a rich festive gold, mini Luxurious Mascara in black, mini Elle YSL EDP spray.

Overall the colors are OK. It is all about drama, bright lips and dark eyes. It is a lot like the Tuxedo Collection that we had this fall. This is just an “extension” of the fall collection.

shu eumara is offering us some bold colors and graphic floral packages to wake us up this holiday season. This winter isn’t about snowflakes but the anticipation of spring and bold blossoms. The collection is a project between shu and Mika Ninagawa, a Japanese photographer and director. The colors range from wake me up bolds to everyday neutrals. I love it. It is graphic, it is colorful and the packaging is pure artwork. I love the ad campaign. All of the models look flawless and I am all about these “fascinator” headwear things.

EYES: There are three limited edition eyeshadow eye color palettes. Each compact contains 10 wonderful mixable shades. Midnight Winter Sakura comes in a beautiful cherry blossom compact. The colors are a little more “winter-ish” than the others. They are rich and neutral. It comes with rich browns, taupes, mauves and a blue. There is Adorned Marguerite. The compact is plastered with 60’s flower power daisies. The colors in this compact are a bit bolder. The colors range from lime green to baby pink to acid yellow to cool purple. It is a very beautiful compact with lots of possibilities. Lastly, there is Secret Luscious Rose. The compact is covered with romantic red roses. The colors are dusty and range from mauve to gray to moss. It’s very lovely and make great “neutrals” that aren’t just brown. There is a Drawing Pencil Mini Trio Set. It contains three mini liners in a rich blue, warm burgundy-ish brown and rich black. They all come in a blue rose box. Two artistic set of lashes are available. There is the lovely pair, Mini Red, seen on the model above. And there is a Slant Purple pair which is just heavenly too.

LIPS: There are two adorable Unlimited Lip Gloss Mini Trio Sets that contain three min glosses and a super cute, graphic makeup bag. There is Seductive Gerbera which comes with a red gerbera bag. The glosses are beautiful and contain a nude gold, baby pink and a rich wine. The other set is Delicous Rose which comes in a tropical orange rose bag. The glosses are bold and vivid and contain a bright orange, bright fuschia and a vivid red. Three Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks in a peony pink and white case have been launched. The three colors include: Brown Beige, Orange Beige and Pink Beige. The last being my favorite.

OTHER STUFF: Two Nail Enamels are available in Tanzanite Aquarium. It is a color changing rich blue with silver glitter. The other is Garnet Aquarium which is a deep shimmering merlot. There is a portable brush set that comes in a beautiful red rose bag. And there is a makeup bag with rainbow colored chrysantheums.

I like it, I really like the eye color palettes the best. I may need one of them to help me make it through the gloomy winter that is ahead. Find out more about the collection on shuuemura-usa.com.

OK, I find butterflies a bit springy, but maybe in the dead of winter I will appreciate Guerlain’s springy choice. I do like the collection, I do love Guerlain. The 2008 color collection features the following:

Meteorites Butterfly Pearls Powder Pearls: These have that lovely Guerlain violet fragrance, are super shimmery and much larger than the traditional Meteorites. They would last forever. the shimmery powders are very flattering and come in beige, pink, white and gold. The container is a metallic pale silvery lilac shade with a butterfly on top. I prefer the traditional packaging more. But, that is just me. These retail for $65.

Sublime Radiant Powder: This is a lovely item with an adorable butterfly adorned atomizer. It is a super shimmery iridescent silvery pink powder with that lovely violet fragrance. The powder can be sprayed onto hair and body for extra holiday glamor. It can be sprayed onto the back of hands and brushed on to face, eyes, etc. The powder is super fine and luxurious. It retails for $82, so it better be luxurious.

Kiss Kiss Lip Gloss: These have a pearly metallic butterfly cap. The formula is the same as always. It is smooth, delicately scented and has lots of shine. The colors are Shimmering Pink which is a bright pink with purple and blue shimmers and Shimmering Violet which is a shimmery light violet. I wanted this one but it was sold out 😦  These retail for $28.

Meteorites Voyage Pressed Powder: This is a very lovely pearly refillable compact. The powder is super shimmery and decorated with butterflies. The shimmer goes all the way down. It is not “gilded”. It has pearly beige, white, pin, and bronze. It is very flattering. It’s a travel friendly version of Meteorites and you have to love that fragrance. Retails for $160.

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lipstick: Comes in the same beautiful packaging as the rest of the collection. Comes in a lovely pink shade and Sparkling White which is a super shimmery 60’s friendly lipstick with lots of shine. It looks great alone or layered over other matte shades. Retails for $29 and has a heavenly scent.

Mysterious Butterfly Eyeshadow Quad: This comes in a butterfly decorated case and each of the shadows has an embellished butterfly on them. The colors are soft and shimmery: pale gold shimmer, shimmery mauve, shimmery dusty lilac, and a shimmery royal purple. The colors are beautiful and blend wonderfully. Retails for $57.

Overall I like this limited edition holiday collection. It is unlike other items and collections offered for the holidays. The colors are shimmery and photograph well. I’ve seen the packaging in real life and it isn’t cheap. It is very luxurious and feminine. It is a nice treat from the traditional jewel tones and reds and greens. Eyes are purple and smoky, lips are glossy and nude, and the complexion is perfection. This is the only collection offered for the 2008 winter season that I have actually purchased from. True I am a Guerlain addict, but at least these shades are unlike others, plus I love the smell.

I really like the “look” of MAC Holiday Red She Said Color Collection. I’m all about retro glamour. I love red lips and nude eyes. The model’s makeup is so lovely. However, I have many things this collection offers in my collection already. So, this look seemed boring and old since I do this anyways.

The collection offers six Mineralize Eye Shadow Trios. I found them horribly boring and a major disappointment. I sampled them dry and the pigments were very weak. The metallic shades were worthless and were very chunky and glittery. The other two shades were muted and a bit chalky. These trios retail for $17.50.

There are two Fluidline gel eyeliners in Blacktrack, a flat matte retro black, and Silverstroke, a metallic silver. I love this formula. It is easy to use and lasts all day. These retail for $15 and last forever.

There are 5 Lipsticks in this collection. They are OK and not bad but didn’t scream out “take me home” either. There is Red She Said a satin blue red, Crazeee a pearly coral shade, Pomposity a frosty blue pink, Soft Pause which is a brownish berry shade and Quiet, Please a frosty pale 60’s beige. These retail for $14 and are typically wonderful.

There are five shades of Dazzleglass Lip Gloss. These glosses are super shimmery and feel great on. I really like these. Talk about “festive”, these are so fun. The colors include: Date Night a plum with tons of glimmer, Baby Sparks a pale pink with tons of glimmer, Miss Dynamite a coppery penny shade with tons of pearly glimmer, Love Alert a blue-ish berry red super shimmer, and Sugarrimmed a pale pinkish white frost that looks great over other shades. These go for $17.50, a little more costly than their other glosses.

Two Beauty Powder Blushes were launched: Stark Naked which is a warm shimmery pink and Enough Said a light warm shimmery nude. These go for $18 and aren’t too bad.

Two Nail Laquers were launched: Rougemarie which is a creamy blue-ish red pink and Beiged Bliss a pale shimmery nude. These retail for $11.

Overall, despite the shadows, the collection is pretty enough. I didn’t find it exciting and the packaging is the same as always. I didn’t buy anything but I do love the Dazzleglass. It is a lot like Chanel’s gloss.

These new MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio from the 2008 Red She Said Holiday Collection well, suck. I was not impressed with these. I saw them online and I was so siked. The metallic colors looked wonderful. The colors looked rich and saturated. I got to try these in person and I was so disappointed. First, things first. The metallic centers of these are so weak. I wanted gilded, foiled eyes. Instead the gold or silver centers were weak, invisible except for unattractive metallic glitter flakes. Not cool. The other two colors were weak too. They had pigment unlike the metallic centers but were really light in comparison to other MAC eye shadows. I did sample these dry so maybe if used wet they are pigmented. Do comment if you have used these damp.

These come in six trios that retail for $17.50. I didn’t purchase any because I found them boring. Danger Zone seemed like it would be the most interesting because it has a metaillic midnight black, silver and metallic lipstick red. Instead it came out boring and washed out. I thought I would like Inter-View because it has a deep shimmery peacock navy, gold and deep rusty wine. Nope, boring. I found all of them boring. Oh, well.

Winter makeup collections are always into “vintage” looks such as red lips, false lashes, etc. and they love “jewel” tones and rich metallics. Estee Lauder has stuck to this traditional holiday makeup model. I had an opportunity to play in it and here’s what I think.

FACE: They’ve relaunched Double Wear Liquid Foundation for this collection. I despise Double Wear Foundation despite its mega popularity. If you like cakey makeup go for it. The Shimmering Jewel Powder is new. I really like it. It is a shimmery champagne colored powder highlighter with a “jewel” texture. It comes in a mirrored compact and goes for $32.

EYES: We have the new Silky Eyeshadow Duo with Fauceted Design in Amethyst which is a shimmery smoky purple/plum duo, Sapphire which is a shimmery silvery baby blue and rich blue duo and Emerald which is a shimmery nude and forest green duo (think of Urban Decay Mildew). The shadows have a nice texture and lots of shimmer. The pigments blend nicely. I like the formula but I’m not too wild about any of the colors. Mainly because I have shades a lot like it in my collection already. They retail for $25. The Smoked Eye Pencil comes in Smoked Amethyst and Smoked Emerald. I like the shades and texture of these. They are smooth. They go for $18.50. They are featuring Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara. I have not sampled this. It retails for $19.50.

LIPS & NAILS: Next we have the Estee Lauder Fauceted Signature Lipstick. Same formula as the original however it has a fauceted jewel design. It looks just like Milani’s lipstick and feels the same too. The colors are rich: Black Cherry which is a deep wine, Ruby which is a blue-ish pinkish red, and Rich Red which is a blue red. I do like the lipsticks since I am a sucker for these hues. Pure Color Nail Lacquer has been launched in the following shades and retail for $18: Blackberry which is a deep deadly wine and Red Tango a pinkish red.

Overall, the collection isn’t too bad. I just didn’t see anything that different or unlike products that I already own. Of course I own everything. The colors are holiday generic but that is OK, being that I like shimmers and bold lips. The model looks a bit like a corpse but I just hope that is my computer monitor’s settings. And what about cheeks? They didn’t “spotlight” anything.
