Oh, something else that I want. The packaging for this product, Miss Ferling Baume de Levres Iris a la Violette or Kiss Me Sweet Mona Lip Balm, is sooo cute. I am a sucker for this kind of stuff. It comes a cute collage Mona Lisa box. The tube is dainty and violet. And to top it off it is a natural product with a silvery violet tint and sweet violet flavor. I’m sold. I love the scent and taste of violets. This product retails for $15 and is available on beautyhabit.com.

I love the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer Tinted Lip Balms because they actually have pigment. They are a great lipstick replacement. They have that minty tingle of the original Burt’s Bees lip balm. I’m a lipstick kind of gal. However, my lips usually get really chapped in the cold. Pigment rich red lipstick does not cover chapped lips very well. Instead it looks like smearing pigment on to the shedded skin of a Bearded Dragon. Everytime my lips get all messed up looking, I use an intensive treatment at night and during the day I use one of these tinted balms. Sometimes I use clear balm but most of the time I feel my lips need some color. Nutmeg is a reddish orangey coral with tons of gold shimmer. It looks great with green eye makeup, bronzey eye makeup, and coral eye makeup. Since my hair is dyed red, this color really works well. It’s a slim tube  Plus, this stuff is pretty cheap (under $6) and can be bought pretty much everywhere.

This limited edition lip gloss/ lip balm has a lovely super pale satin peachy pink. It makes for an amazing pale lip look on my skintone. Especially if the smoky eye is super bronzed or a smoky violety taupe. It looks very Victoria’s Secret Angels that way. I like the shade because it looks nice with both baby pink and peach blushes and it is stunning with a pinky-peach blush like NARS Orgasm. The only downside is that since it is pale and a bit satin (sans mega shimmer) it can look uneven or attach to dry patches like mad. That is a bit inconvenient being that this is a lip gloss balm that is made to make lips look healthy. Your lips have to be healthy and in tip top shape for this to look good. The formula is rich and contains shea butter. It moisturizes but doesn’t repair winter parched lips. Plus, I was craving a super rosy fragrance like those refreshing Middle Eastern drinks. The fragrance is rosy but very faint. It is rosy in a Dior Lychee Rose way. So it is a bit cat pissy and fruity. I try not to think about that too much and just try to think of roses. Luckily, the fragrance isn’t too strong so this can be ignored if you quit obsessing over it. This product is lucky to be such a pretty shade that works for me. I’m not shaken that this is limited edition. Once again it is another product that I could live without.

This color is very sheer but very pretty. It looks healthy and “ripe”. The color in the tube looks much darker than it appears in real life. On, it is a very sheer and satin reddish plum. It adds a healthy tint. It looks like wine stained lips with a layer of sheer glossy lip balm. I really love the color because it really makes my complexion look healthy. It has a little sheen buy zero shimmer. It is the classic Eight Hour formula. It has an odd herbaceous odor. If you are familiar with the original Eight Hour cream, this is the same medicinal, herbaceous odor. That really doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is that it burns my lips after a day’s wear. I don’t know if it is the added SPF 15. My lips don’t take kindly to sunscreens. Sunscreens usually cause them to burn, itch, and become extremely dry. This is what wearing this does to my lips. By the end of the day my lips feel really chapped. I still use it because I like the color. Stupid, I know. I just won’t repurchase. Alot of people rave of this, I would too if it didn’t irritate the crap out of my lips. It retails for $17. It is available at drugstore.com.

If you are scared of wine lips but like the look, I suggest you start with something like Alba Terra Tints Natural Tinted Lip Balm in Garnet. This is a traditional lip balm packed with a minty tingle and flavor. It is very sheer. Burt’s Bees Lip Tints have a ton more pigment than this. Garnet is a super sheer plummy, reddish wine. It is a little darker and more red than my natural lip color. The texture of this is kind of thick, which is a bonus. It doesn’t need applied frequently. It is not crumpley or lumpy. The color looks pretty natural with a hint of “wine stain” and very faint sheen. It is great for people that want to try color but are just scared. Alba Garnet makes for a nice pair of training wheels. It has a SPF 18 that doesn’t cause my lips to become irritated. This is rare, most SPF lip products cause me to have itchy burning lips. This product is like a lip stain but it actually mositurizes and protects the lips. It retails for about $3.99 and is available on drugstore.com and most drugstores and health food stores.

Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Root Beer came in a free gift from Clinique. It is a super sheer pinky beige shade. It really provides no color on my lips. It just makes my lips appear a bit more glossy than normal. I am really not impressed with this product. It does nothing for my lips as far as appearance goes. It doesn’t have a fragrance. I am a fragrance whore, I want that in a product. I would love for this to smell like its namesake: root beer. Give me a reason to wear this Clinique! It feels OK on the lips, I’d rather wear a Nivea balm. It is the same formula as Clinique’s Superbalm but with this rumored color. It doesn’t contain a sunscreen but it has antioxidants and stuff. I just find this product a bit boring. I use it because I feel like I should. That is the problem with “gift time”. You get stuck with some things you’d never buy but feel like you should use. Oh, well. I just know that there are tons of other tinted lip balms on the market that I love, I’m talking to you Clarins.

I was bored out of mind the other day and remembered that I had a few drugstore items on my list. I wandered around a bit because I usually order from drugstore.com and felt lost in an actual store. Anyways, I stumbled across the great Nivea Lip Care A Kiss Of Flavor Lip Balm. Typically, I use Rosebud Salve or Guerlain Divinora, so maybe that is why these are really “fun” compared to my other choices. These Nivea balms are identical to the Labello Tinted and Flavored Lip Balms that I used to buy in Germany. (The Passion Fruit Labello is Nivea Passion Fruit.) I loved Labello because of the awesome smoothness and amount of product in the tube. Nivea is no disappointment. The tube is crammed full of smooth, lip nourishing glossy balm. It is enhanced with jojoba and almond oils and shea butter just like Labello. Cherry has a punch of juicy cherry flavor and a sheer healthy red tint that is your lips but better. Nivea Passion Fruit has a yummy passion fruit flavor and a hint of violet that really works for my skintone and adds a very sheer, natural color to my lips. The texture is so smooth, non-sticky, not heavy or greasy. The hints of color and flavors are so fun without being Bonne Bell Lip Smackers. I am so happy to find these in the States. The drugstore had a Hint of Shimmer too which looks like a champagne shimmer balm. I bought mine for 1.99 and drugstore.com has it’s listed at $2.49. They are awesome and I’m going back for Hint of Shimmer. This is a big deal because Labello retails for $7.95 to $8.95 plus ridiculous shipping charges on smallflower.com and I am so happy that I found Nivea! Heck, the packaging is even the same.
