Who doesn’t love the juicy, tropical smell of mango? I’m not that wild about fruity fragrances but I do like mango blends. They are like a little vacation in a bottle. Mango is sweet, pulpy, and peach-like a.k.a. delicious. Actually, I prefer this aroma in fragrance over a peach any day. Here is a list of fragrances heavy on mango in a variety of price points and mediums.

Budget Mango Scents (under $50): There are a few nice solid perfume mango products out there. I really love Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit Solid Perfume. It is in a nice and natural base. It smells like a tropical fruit explosion of peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and mango. It’s like a tropical cocktail in a solid form. The citrus makes it a “happy” fragrance. The solid is a steal at $9. Carol’s Daughter Mango Melange EDT is a juicy tropical blend of citrus, mango, and vanilla-like coconut. The spray retails for $27. Love + Toast Clementine Crush Roll-On Perfume is a blend of guava, citrus, and mango. It goes for $12 and is in a travel friendly container/roll-on. Benefit Crescent Row Something About Sofia EDT is a sweeter tropical fruity-floral. It has mango, tropical florals, and lots of gourmand sweetness. I think of it as the “cool” weather mango scent. It goes for $36.Benefit B Spot EDT is also a fruity-floral heavy on mango. It’s less sweet than the other mentioned. The 1.7 EDT goes for $38. Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne in Mango Pineapple Salsa is a fruity but spicy mango scent. It’s interesting enough. The 1 ounce goes for $20. Villainess Paradise Misplaced Perfume Oil is a creamy coconut tropical mango scent with fresh green tea that adds crispness. A bottle retails for $18.

More Expensive Mango Scents: Strange Invisible Perfumes Tropical Vial EDP is a must have for those that want a juicy, tropical mango fragrance. It’s like a tropical ambrosia. It retails for $135 for 1.7 ounces. Ebba Miss Marisa Tropical Perfume Oil is a creamy coconut mango long-wearing fragrance oil. It retails for $62. Annick Goutal Folavril EDT is a fresh mango fragrance with green leaves and florals. It isn’t so sweet but much more green than the others listed in this guide (my review). The 3.4 ounce goes for $110. Parfums de Nicolaï Turquoise Eau Fraiche is a slightly spicy tropical mango scent with a dash of cardamom and pepper. Even with the spice, it still manages to be refreshing and awesome for summer. The 3.4 ounce retails for $65.

5 Other Mango Scented Products So You Can Smell Like Mango From Head to Toe: Looking for a rich mango smelling body cream to layer under any of these fragrances? Try 100% Pure Mango Shea Body Butter. It retails for $18. You could also try Watkins Mango Body Cream. I love the old-school packaging. It retails for $9. Maile Organics Body Wash in Mango Nectar is a rich, tropical smelling body wash. It retails for $22. If you like bar soaps, try The Body Shop Mango Soap. It is a lush, fruity aroma. It retails for $4. Alba Hawaiian Mango Moisturizing Hair Conditioner retails for under $10.

I finally bought the solid! It’s a great price at $16. It is a really fragrant solid. It’s loaded with scent of one of my favorite care-free feminine fragrances: Clementine. Clementine is a SoCal blend of night-blooming jasmine, orange blossom, and honeysuckle. It’s heavenly and every time I wear it, I want to move to California. It’s so pretty and easy to wear. See my fragrance oil review for more.

The solid comes in a pretty generous sized container. It’s much bigger than those offered by Lush or L’Occitane. (Think the size of a Smith’s Rosebud Salve). The solid base isn’t very creamy but it is rich. It warms up and smooths on easily with the warmth of your fingertips. It has a shea and cocoa butter base. It’s very moisturizing. The fragrance oils do so well in this moisturizing base. Like most solids, you’ll have to apply this a few times a day if you want to be fragrant all day. The scent lasts on me 2-4 hours.

This solid is available at beautyhabit.com. I can’t decide if I like this or the oil better. I like that this solid is travel friendly but I love the oil because it is sooo long-wearing.

I love a fig fragrance. They are what I “collect”. Sometimes I find myself purchasing less-than-perfect-figs just because I can’t help it. And I love a fig fragrance that actually smells wonderful and retails for under $10. (This product retails for $9). So, what I am saying is that I love Pacifica Mediterranean Fig Solid Perfume. It is a must have for the fig lover. And even a must have for those wanting a simple scent. I see why this is one of Pacifica’s #1 sellers.

The tin is adorable. I love the almost Marimekko inspired fig graphic design. The tin is nice for travel and is about the size of a lip gloss tin. The texture is a bit waxy but “sticks” just fine when mixed with the warmth of your fingers rubbing it in. It is moisturizing with coconut and soy wax. I love the intimacy of a solid perfume. They wear closely and you wear them, not the other way around. It doesn’t wear very long because of its medium, but that is why it is travel friendly. It wears on me for about 3 hours and I actually enjoy applying it again. It’s a nice fig pick-me-up. And isn’t that big of a deal to re-apply. I re-apply lipsticks like 30 times a day.

The fragrance is fig, not so fruity, but much more woodsy and green. My all time favorite fig scent is Diptyque Philosykos. Pacifica is no Diptyque but look in the difference of price! Diptyque is a great fig fragrance in a solid fragrance medium and I have layered it under the Diptyque EDT for “lasting power”. Like I said, it isn’t fruity fig or fruity fig sap like some fig blends. It isn’t blended with sugar or vanilla for a fig dessert like scent. This is more of a “Mediterranean” scent. It is warm, simple, and cozy. It smells of smooth fig tree leaves, “greeness” from neighboring plants, and a woodsy base of dry sandalwood. Since this is a solid, I feel it is what you smell is what you get. There isn’t a transformation. This is a well-rounded green fig scent mixed with sundried driftwood. It’s effortless to wear. It’s a great reminder of late summer seaside strolls. This is a great unisex solid perfume. I say to give it a try if you are a fan of fig scents or if you like Antica Farmacista Green Fig EDP, Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Amalfi Fig EDT, Diptyque Philosykos EDT or solid, TokyoMilk Marine Sel Perfume Solid, Heeley Figuier EDP, L’Artisan Parfumeur Premier Figuier EDT, Marc Jacobs for Him, and/or Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue for Her EDT.

It is available at www.pacificaperfume.com (I have to support them as they are a PNW company) and Whole Foods markets.

It’s that time of year again. Mandarins, satsumas, whatever you like to call them, are at market to be purchased by the boxful. Citrus is a nice treat during these cool winter months. I’ve compiled a “collage” of zesty mandarin fragrances with a variety of price points and formulas.

Budget Mandarin Scents (Under $50): Trish McVoy Mandarin & Ginger Lily EDT is a citrus floral blend that is light-wearing. It retails for $48 for .5 oz (not alot of product for the dough). Crazylibellule & The Poppies Les Garçonnes Tamara Charleston is a very interesting humid, green, mandarin blend. This solid Crazystick retails for $18 and is well worth it. My review of it is here. Lush Olive Branch Solid Perfume is a simple and refreshing unisex blend of olive oil and mandarins. I love the solid formula. tIt retails for about $8. Lancome Ô de Lancome EDT is a classic, cool feeling mandarin, floral, and rosemary scent. The 1.7 oz. bottle goes for $38.50.  Voluspa Victoria Collection Pink Fatale is an incredible flirty fruity-floral with citrus and lilies. The .5 oz. roll-on goes for $24. Oh, and I almost forgot the mandarin classic: The Body Shop Satsuma Perfume Oil. It’s all about mandarin and the .5 oil goes for $16. (not pictured)

More Expensive Mandarin Scents: Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne is a zesty, herbaceous citrus blend that is unisex. It’s a great summer scent. The 3.4 oz bottle goes for $100. It’s a limited edition fragrance but it is still available: L’Artisan Parfumeur Mandarine Tout Simplement. It is what the name implies. It is a sparkling mandarin citrus blend. It is light wearing and the 8.4 oz. spray goes for $135. If you are looking for a creamier mandarin fragrance, the kind that can transition into cooler weather even though it is refreshing, try Antica Farmacista Vanilla Bourbon and Mandarin Perfume. The 1.6 oz. bottle goes for $58. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Madarine Basilic EDT is a naturally sweet citrus blend with clementine, mandarin, and blood orange. The 1.7 oz bottle goes for $57. Here’s my review. Manuel Canovas Route Mandarine EDP is a mandarin and orange blossom mix, a citrus floral. It retails for $79 for 3.4 oz. Fresh Bergamot Citrus is a light blend of bergamot, citrus, and foresty base notes. The 3.4 oz. retails for $75. Creed Millesime Imperial is a unisex blend of crisp citrus, salt, musk, and woods. It is truly lovely and goes for $250 for 4 oz. (I just ordered one and I’m waiting anxiously for its arrival). Molinard 1849 Vervaine de Molinard is a green, crisp, fresh mandarin. Plus, the bottle is a must have. The 3.3 oz goes for $185.

5 Other Great Mandarin Products: Mistral Black Tea Mandarin Soap is a great scent for cooler weather. A bar goes for under $8. Ahava Body Sorbet in Madarin & Cedarwood is a refreshing and very moisturizing blend. The cedarwood really adds a special something. I love it for cooler weather. It is very foresty. A tub goes for $26. Lush The Big Tease Styling Gel is a hair gel with an orange blossom, mandarin, and lemon scent. It smells heavenly. It goes for under $17. Diptyque Oyedo Candle is a refreshing blend of grapefruit and mandarin. The candle retails for $60. A rich and lush mandarin fragrance for the home is Alora Ambiance Tre Reed Diffuser which goes for $58.

whitemuskcollageOh, white musk…one of my favorite modern marvels! This synthetic aromachemical brings me much happiness. It’s clean, sexy, smooth, and laid-back. I’ve tried to compile a few “heavy on the white musk” ranging from the drugstore favorite Jovan White Musk to the soft blend of Serge Lutens Clair de Musc.

Budget White Musk Scents (Under $50): I judge all “white musk” scents on Jovan White Musk Cologne. It seems to be the epitome of what a white musk should be. The 3.3 oz bottle goes for $23. It’s one of my favorite cheap things. The Body Shop White Musk EDP is a floral white musk scent. The 1 oz. retails for $24. An EDT spray is also available and it’s cheaper but not as long wearing. Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly EDP is a warm, creamy white musk blend. The smallest spray goes for $39. Harajuku Lovers Baby EDT is a powdery white musk blend. It’s delicate, the name suits it, and the bottle is adorable. The 1 oz. goes for $45. It’s not my favorite white musk scent but it is cheap: Body Fantasies Fresh White Musk Body Spray. It retails for under $7 and is a white musk and floral blend. It doesn’t make a bad linen spray. I love the crispness and cleanness of Crazylibellule & The Poppies Les Divine Alcôves Presque Nue. It’s mainly white musk with a dash of romantic ylang-ylang. It’s clean and feminine. The solid perfume retails for $16 and actually wears for a long time. I’m almost out of mine and plan on picking up another.

More Expensive White Musk Scents: Annick Goutal Musc Nomade EDP is a sensual white musk blend with woods and resins. It’s a bad-gal white musk. The 3.4 oz. bottle goes for $175. Clean Original Musk EDP is a light-wearing white musk blend that wears more like an EDT. The 2.14 oz. bottle retails for $76. Philospophy Amazing Grace EDT is a hot-selling soft musk blend and I’m sure you know somebody that wears it. The largest bottle, 4 oz. retails for $60.  Montale White Musk EDP is a soft and tender blend of white musk and delicate petals. The 1.7 oz. retails for $95. Surge Lutens Clair de Musc EDP is a soft orris like musk. It is unlike other SL’s because it isn’t animalic but it has musk. And I still love it! It’s a great white musk splurge. The 1.7 oz. retails for $120. Anamor All That Matters EDP is a romantic, high quality “white musk” blend. It retails for $155 for 1 oz. Stephanie de Saint-Aignan Blanc d’Hiver EDT is an icy, light blend of juicy pear, white musk, and powdery florals. The 1.7 oz spray retails for $135. It’s light and innocent.

I love Melissa Flagg fragrances. Many of them are super floral and super feminine. I have tried the perfume oil roll-ons and I am impressed with their portability paired with long-wear. Since I am a sucker for solid fragrances, I was so delighted to see that the line includes solid perfumes. The texture is divine. It is rich, not greasy, harder than most. It feels just like real shea butter because the base is shea and cocoa butter. This means it is never greasy and with the warmth of your touch it evens out smoothly. It wears soft and sensual to the skin. To my surprise it wears for some time in comparison to other solids on the market, like 4/5 hours of wear. The tin is a generous size and sturdy (about the size of a Rosebud salve). And it retails for $16. I find this a steal for what you are getting.

So, I love the formula about as much as I do the perfume oil. Now to the fragrance…Hazel’s is an intoxicating tropical floral of dewy white Hawaiian gardenias. Swoon. It is a romantic fragrance that reminds me of my dream Hawaiian wedding that never happened. Or the dream Hawaiian honeymoon that never happened either. I think of it as the perfect wedding/honeymoon fragrance for a tropical location. I never had that but I can at least pretend that I did when I sniff this fragrance. This is an exotic, humid gardenia with the right amount of pretty sweetness. It is intoxicating and consuming. My husband loves it. It isn’t overly heavy even though it is a sweeter gardenia scent. At first is has a “fruity” component. But, not fruity, it’s the kind of fruitiness that is subtle and what a gardenia has naturally. It then smells of white blossoms mixed with a bit of beachy coconut. This adds some smoothness to the gardenia but it never smells like suntan lotion or like a “beach” product. Overall, this fragrance is the epitome of the tropical gardenia genre. (BTW, there is a native Hawaiian gardenia. I am not familiar with the actual aroma of this plant because it is endangered by habitat loss. Since I am unfamiliar with its aroma, I imagine and want it to smell like this solid.)

Have I mentioned that I love the rich, moisturizing, natural base?

This fragrance is a keeper just like my darling Clementine. I can not wait to give the tropical floral explosion, Mily, a try. This is the fragrance for the tropical gardenia lover, the romantic at heart, the monoi/Hawaiian fragrance lover, those in need of a Hawaiian vacation, and those that like Lucy B. Tropical Gardenia perfume roll onKai perfume oil, Antica Farmacista Ala Moana, Tocca solid parfums, and/or Moyette Paris EDP. These are available at beautyhabit.com.

orangeblossom

I can’t get enough of orange blossom/neroli scents this summer. It is very difficult to find “guides” online, so I’ve created a brief  collage/guide to fragrances which are heavy on this light, bitter floral. There are many scents on the market with these notes. I’m focusing on those that are heavy on orange blossom, like a splash of a refreshing Lebanese floral water in an iced beverage. I am looking for those “delicate” scents. From what I understand orange blossom and neroli are the same thing it just depends on how the oil is distilled (steam vs. water). However, neroli is supposed to be from a bitter orange blossom while most orange blossoms are not “labeled”.

Budget Orange Blossom Scents: Yves Rocher Pur Desir Orange Blossom/Fleur d’Oranger EDT is light and beautiful. It really competes with the more expensive stuff. It is $22 for 2 oz, body products are available as well. It’s a bit crude but still very orange blossom, a bit medicinal. I like it in a strange way. It is a nice drugstore find and the price is awesome: Sanborns Orange Blossom Cologne. It retails for about $4 for over 6 oz. of product. Tokyomilk Lotus Sake Petit Parfum Solid is a fruity/citrus orange blossom fragrance. It retails for $18. This would be a very light fragrance but very refreshing pick-me-up if transferred to a spray bottle: Caswell-Massey Orange Flower Water. It goes for $16 for 6 oz. It’s a pretty orange blossom with the help of jasmine, The Body Shop Neroli Jasmin. It retails for $17 for 1 oz. Parfums des Beaux Arts Eau de Fleur d’Oranger du Roi (review) is a lovely and simple soliflore orange blossom scent. The EDP spray retails for $27 for .25 oz.

More Expensive Orange Blossom Scents: 88 Orange Scent Blossom EDP is a clean, spring like floral with orange blossom and lilac. The 2 oz. spray retails for $55. Jo Malone Orange Blossom Cologne is crisp and light. The large bottle (3.4 oz) goes for $100. Diptyque L’Eau de Neroli is a tart, citrusy orange blossom. The cologne retails for $98 for 3.4 oz. Annick Goutal Neroli EDT is a beautiful, elegant orange blossom/neroli scent. The 2.4 oz. bottles goes for $115. To my surprise I found out that I really like Prada Fleur D’Oranger EDP. At first it wears hissy but the dry down is great and worth it despite the unusual top notes. The 3.4 oz. spray retails for $100. I’ll never forget the 1st time I sniffed Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Oranger. Did it start my obsession? The 1.7 oz. retails for $120. Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger is a fresh and citrusy orange blossom scent and I can’t get enough of it. It is $200 for 3.4 oz. Laura Mercier Neroli is EDP is a fresh, floral orange blossom. It is $75 for 1.7 oz. Cinq Mondes Pluie D’Aromes Ritual d’Atlas is a fresh blend of citrus and orange blossom. The 1.7 oz. spray goes for $85.

I was reading that neroli/orange blossom is used to relieve tension and anxiety in aromatherapy. No wonder I am loving this stuff, it has been a stressful summer. However, we did close on the house and we’ve started repairs. I spend all my day removing wallpaper, cleaning, and pulling faux fur off of doors. What fun! (See the home blog if you want more.)
