Lately, I’ve been wanting Veronica Lake hair badly. This I can’t do, being that I have blunt bangs. The grass is always greener on the other side, right? And I need a “safer” look since I will be toting a sledgehammer and remodeling the new house 🙂 But, I can get this classic look. Anybody can really. It is great for all hair colors, eye colors, and most complexions.

Face: First, even out complexion by applying concealer where needed. I like Clinique All About Eyes Concealer. Apply a matte powder foundation such as Lancome Dual Finish Powder Foundation. Cheeks are super nude. Apply a faint dusting of a natural looking bronzer such as Rimmel Natural Bronzer in a shade closest to your skintone.

Eyes: Brows are perfectly brushed into place and filled in. I love Lancome Le Crayon Poudre Powder Pencil. It has a soft texture and a spoolie on one end. Apply a beige shadow closest to your skintone all over the eye area. A little shimmer is nice. For me, I would use Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow in Buff. Line eyes with a black gel liner such as Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. Line top lashes only with a crisp line. Veronica has OTT false lashes and I love them. Apply false lashes for the “real deal” (something like Laura Mercier’s lashes) or just go for a lengthening mascara such as Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara. Apply mascara to bottom lashes also.

Lips: Veronica had an amazing and dramatic lip line. Pat concealer around the lips to give the illusion of plump lips and to keep lipstick from bleeding. If you want a dramatic lip line, apply Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Rose. You can slightly go around your top lip line to exaggerate if you do not have a “natural” lip line like Veronica’s. Apply a full-coverage lipstick like Lipstick Queen Sinner Lipstick in Rose. Apply a dab of a hydrating lip balm such as Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm to the center of your bottom lip for a pouty and plump look.

I think a spritz of Badgley Mischka is appropriate for this look. It’s a modern fragrance but it definitely Old Hollywood.

I have a few of these mark Glow Baby Glow and Glow Baby Glow Luxe lip glosses and I am really impressed with their quality for the price. They connect to one another so that you can choose your perfect combos. Each of these glosses have a minty fresh scent that is very inoffensive and fresh. The texture is thinner than MAC Lip Glass or LancĂ´me Juicy Tube but not as thin as Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm or Bonne Bell. It is really nice texture that wears for a while without being sticky or leaving those white gummy things on your lips like MAC does. I really like the stuff and it sells for $5 when it isn’t on sale. I have Peek-a-Boo which is an awesome pale nude that pairs perfectly with smoky eyes. I have Player which is a shimmery bronze that I’m not so crazy about just because it is so “normal” looking. I have Secret which is a nude pale mauve that looks great with smoky eyes. Girly Girl is a sheer pink with blue shimmer. The “luxe” shades I have are Lotus Luxe which is a shimmery nude pink and Pearl Luxe which is a white shimmer. You have to buy the connectors separately. I love these and I’d probably buy more if I could see them in person. That’s what sucks about mark, they’re really great cosmetics but you have to have a rep (which I don’t) or order them online and just guess. I really want to try the plumping glosses too. Buy them here.

Kevyn Aucoin is a makeup artist god. He was a man of talent and new how to pull the strings of pop culture. I see his legacy in the product Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Lipstick. It has that disco gal vibe. It is an amazing full-coverage lipstick gloss. It has the coverage and color of a lipstick and the super shine of an awesome gloss. It really makes lips pop and look fuller.

For some reason I have always loved liquid lipstick. Maybe because it is novel, who knows. I just like this product because it is so patent leather. It is a fun product and a grown up gals lip gloss.  There are five shades. All are super shiny. One of my faves is Aquarouge which is a deep plummy red brown that will look hot for fall. There is Aurelia which is soft pink that looks great with gold or silver eyes. There is Dollphine which is a warm nude that is hot with smoky eyes. There is Ondine which is a bright poppy red that screams discotheque. Reyna is a peachy melon coral that looks awesome on tanned skin and bronzer.

These retail for $27 and you can get them at sephora.com and beauty.com.
