So far, I am really loving Les Garçonnes fragrance collection. Pompon Gardenia is an amazing heady white floral blend with sweet lime. This is one of my favorite white florals ever. I love a super feminine white floral and this is a winner with its blend of gardenia, lilies, and lime.

I assume that the inspiration for Pompon Gardenia was François Pompon, a 20’s era sculptor and Rodin’s assistant. I’ve always remembered him for his sleek chouettes. But, it could just be pompon as a fashion accessory. I don’t know for sure and I really don’t care. I love the sleek and portable, ecological cardboard packaging. It’s a lovely poppy print with rich green and mauve. I peeled a bunch of ’36 era wallpaper in my rehab home that reminded me of this print and color scheme.

At first Pompon Gardenia is a lush, humid white gardenia. There is a faint aroma of watermelon and gardenia. This doesn’t smell like a Jolly Rancher watermelon hard candy or too fruity. It just adds a humid quality to the gardenia, something that is more a sweet aquatic quality than just “aquatic”. It’s more “watermelon rind”, a bit green and fresh, bitter and sweet,  and what is keeping it from being like a candy-esque body spray. The sweet lime is an amazing touch to this blend. I love limes for their tart fruitiness and slight sweetness. We always have them around the kitchen. I love the smell that they leave on my hands. It is very beautiful and I always thought it would be perfect with a heady floral. Pompon Gardenia has a very pleasant slightly bitter but mostly sweet type of lime. I’m talking you smell the entire little sweet lime, including zest and juicy pulp. It’s beautiful. All of these fruits mix with dainty white lily of the valley (very understated in comparison) and big, white gardenias. Gardenia works very well with these fruits because gardenia has a slightly fruity aroma anyways. Eventually, the fragrance becomes a strong gardenia fragrance with a sweet lime twist, the watermelon rind fades, so do the other dainty white flowers. After a bit of wear, you pick up on the faintest and mildest tobacco ever. In fact the 1st few weeks that I wore this, I could barely pick up on it. It has been many, many years since I smelled the warmness and hay like quality of dried, light tobacco. I ended up wearing this one day in the summer and my husband drug me to a cigar shop. There I smelled the lovely jars of various flavored and unflavored tobacco. I smelled some that the owner referred to as “mild” and “blonde”. I could then smell this ever so slightly in this solid fragrance blend. It is faint and definitely overshadowed by the white florals. It does add some much needed warmth to the blend. Don’t let the tobacco fool you. This is not a smoky blend, “dry”,  nor is it even close to being masculine. This is a pretty girl wearing an old-fashioned gardenia perfume oil and red lipstick in a quaint tobacco shop. That’s it.

This fragrance isn’t what I expected it to be. When I read the notes when it was launched, I was thinking of something much more dry, smokier with a  less fruity gardenia, and maybe the kind of sweet lime wedge that has been swimming in honey colored whiskey. I was thinking something to wear in cooler weather. I was thinking of a sexy but desperate 20’s lady at a smoky bar with messy, uneven pin-curls. This is much more feminine, alive, pretty, and almost coy. It’s much more 40’s cheesecake pin-up. It is glowing with a bright red lipstick smile exposing more than pearly whites. It’s perfect like a Vargas created girl. Like I said, it wasn’t what I expected but it is something that I really like. I am happy that I bought it. It’s fairly simple aquatic gardenia with lime with a very slight tobacco dry warmth.

It retails for about $16 and is available at b-glowing.com and beautyhabit.com. It’s a great price, cute vintage packaging, and wears for a few hours without any touch-ups. I’m touching up my red lipstick more frequently than this stuff.

I am a fan of the complexion enhancer. I love shimmer and glimmer. Too Faced has released a new shimmer powder: Absolutely Invisible Candlelight Powder. It is a soft golden ivory shimmer that will warm up pale to medium skins. It comes in a compact with a glam chandelier on it. I love it because I love how Too Faced does shimmer. It retails for $25. TheBalm has released a new shimmer powder: Mary-Lou Manizer. I am not wild for the name being that I think being an “izer” of any type isn’t cool. It’s a beautiful golden ivory shimmer powder that works nicely with light to medium skins. It makes a nice eyeshadow and highlighter for face and body. It comes in a mirrored compact with an under arrest blonde pin-up type gal on it. This retails for $22.

Both powders are very similar. Both are multi-use powders that provide a “soft” shimmer. Too Faced’s contains anti-oxidants. TheBalm’s is talc and paraben free. You can pick them up from Sephora.

Have a thing for sailor pants and deep, dark navy? I do. I always fall for that hokey almost costumey nautical look for summer. It just looks cute and quite pin-up with a bit of prep. I try not to dress like it anymore, since there are actual sailors in town and their uniforms are much cuter than my wardrobe. Anyways, Bobbi Brown’s Nautical Collection is that look that I always pull out every late spring. I love a “fresh” and a no-fuss glow.

This collection was inspired by a trip to Normandy. There she was inspired, quite frankly,  by the local’s wind and sunburned faces. So, she created a “sheer” collection. Who knew chapped skin could be so beautiful?

I really like this collection for summer. But, I am going through a big lip and cheekstain phase right now. It is just crisp and Bobbi Brown says it best in her video featured on her webiste: forgiving. (Watch it if you want.) This look really does work for most people. I really think the model’s look featured above does the collection no justice. She looks gross and creepy. The eyes are much too much for a natural, sea-side inspired look.

Cheeks: There is a Sheer Color Cheek Tint in 6 shades ranging from flushed Blackberry to warm Coral. (Model is wearing Lilac). These are super sheer and of the swivel variety. I like it. It retails for $22. Don’t be fooled, you can use these on your lips as well. On cheeks, pair with a powder blush for long wear.

Eyes: Perfectly Defined Mascara is the mascara for this look. I haven’t tried it. I can’t comment but I usually dislike comb wands. It goes for $22. Eye makeup isn’t specified but I’m sure it is Eye Shadow in Ivory and Navy and Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Graphite Shimmer Ink. I think a swipe of gel eyeliner would of been enough for this look…

Lips: There is the Sheer Color Lip Gloss in four shades. These are so pretty. They are bold pigments in a super sheer formula that ranges from delicate pink to hot pink. It makes the pout look so healthy. Colors include: Cabana Coral, Marina Pink, Popsicle, and Sailor. Marina Pink is my favorite, even though I like them all. These go for $20 and are limited edition.

As you may know, I am a sucker for packaging. That is why I’m so interested in The Balm’s products. They are so cute with all of the pin-up art and risque names. TheBalm Overshadow is actually a nice product housed in an adorable and glamorous packaging. Overshadows are super shimmery and pretty sheer 100% mineral eyeshadows. It is free all of that “bad” stuff but is still super beautiful. It is a loose shadows that can be used anywhere: eyes, body, face as a highlighter, or even with lip gloss. It comes in four shades with four different Vargas-ish babes on the package. There is If Your Are Rich, I am Single which is a shimmery mauve with silver shimmer. There is No Money, No Honey which is a super pale gold shimmer. There is Work Is Overrated which is a pale warm pink shimmer. And finally, there is You Buy, I’ll Fly which is a shimmery copper. I like all of the shades. They are pretty basic but they work with most skin tones. I really love No Money, No Honey and Work Is Overrated just because they look great on eyes and as a highlighter on my cheekbones. It wears for a long time and doesn’t crease! The names are a bit cheezy but I have to confess that I am a “feminist” that really wants to be a lady of leisure… It retails for $15 and did I mention the too cute packaging? They can be bought at beauty.com.

We all have our favorite bimbo. Jane just happens to be one of my favorites. I feel you can just see the pain on her face in every single pic. She seemed to love and hate being the bleached blonde. She knew no other way. I love this pic of her because the pain is vaguely there but not too much, she knows how to put on a show,  and I am a sucker for coral lips. Orange lips make me swoon.

To get this look apply concealer where needed and a powder foundation such as YSL Radiant Touch Concealer and Dianne Brill Fresh Water Pearl Powder Foundation in your shade. Brows are filled in to perfection. Fill in brows with a pencil such as Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in a shade that suits your complexion. Apply foundation powder to eyelids to absorb oil and even the skintone of the eyelids. Apply a nude shadow such as the lightest shade in Diane Brill Eye Shadow Trio in Bedroom Eyes from lash line to brow bone. Apply the medium shade lightly in the crease. Take the deepest shade and wet a liner brush. Apply closely to the lashline to add depth and fullness to the lashes. I suggest applying false lashes because the eye makeup is very minimal. Plus, it adds classic glamour. Or apply lots of mascara. Cheeks are peachy perfect. Apply Avon Be Blushed Cheek Color in Tropical Peach to the apples and blend and layer as many times as you need. Now to the amazing lips. Apply Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone, a clear to keep this bold color from bleeding. Apply Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Spiced Coral. Apply a sheer coral gloss over lips for extra shine and fullness, something like Estee Lauder High Gloss in Coral. I love the scent of that stuff. And to make this look even more fun apply Jean Paul Gaultier Classique EDT fragrance. Even the packaging is Jayne friendly. No go out and have fun being a bimbo.

I love this look that Kim is sporting. Her lips are so perfect and untouchable. They’re so shiny, red and well lush. I love a red lip and I typically wear a full coverage, super pigmented matte finish. But, when I want something a little more lively, I recreate this drop dead gorgeous look.

First, apply foundation and concealer where needed. I suggest Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation and Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge. Lightly dust face with a large fluffy brush with loose powder such as Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. Fill in brows with a brow pencil such as Anastasia Brow Wiz in Brunette for the color of Kim’s. Brush brows into place with the spoolie on the end of the pencil. If your brows are really unruly and won’t stay in place use a brow taming gel such as Anastasia Brow Gel in Clear. Apply concealer to lid area to use as a base. Dust a nude, skintone shadow over the lid such as the lightest shade in Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Buttered Bronze. Next, blend the darker shade from the lashline to the crease. Take a small brush and lightly “line” the bottom lashes with the darker shade from the duo, creating a ring around the eye. Line the top lashline with Clinique Cream Shaper for Eyes in Brown Sugar which is a basic warm brown. Curl lashes for lift. Coat lashes with a black mascara such as Lancome Hypnôse Custom Volume Mascara. Layer mascara until you get your achieved look. Apply a nude pink blush to the apples of cheeks with something like Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Cupid. This look is all about the lips. Since you’ll be using a glossy shade, line lips with a red lipliner such as NARS Lip Liner in Jungle Red. Line around the natural contours of your lips. Coat lips with a glossy, full coverage lipstick such as Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Lipstick in Ondine which is the most perfect full coverage, super glossy blood red. I like to finish with a Q-Tip ran around the lip line for a perfectly chiseled look just like Kim’s. I’d top off with a spritz of the ultra sensual fragrance of Guerlain Samsara EDT. Now your ready to turn some heads. What I love about this look is that it looks amazing on both blondes and brunettes.

The Band Wagon

OK, So I will never have her legs or sexy moves but I can have Cyd’s makeup. And her hair if I really wanted and if short hair didn’t make my face look so round 😦  I love pink lipstick but I haven’t been wearing too much of it since I dyed my hair red. I still do it but plums look better on me. But I do get tempted by “pink” looks.

To get this look apply foundation and concealer where needed. Use a light formula such as Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation and Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen. Lightly dust skin with a large fluffy brush using a lightweight powder such as NARS Sparkling Loose Powder. Every bombshell has perfect brows, so tame brows with something like Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in your shade of choice, it would be Espresso for Cyd like brows. Use the neutral colors with a hint of pink found in Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow Compact in Earth Reflection 609. Dust the top left shade all over the eye, from lashline to brow bone. Dust the center pink shade from lashline to the crease of the lid. Take the brown from the top right and blend into the crease. Take the lightest shade, the bottom right, and highlight the brow bone. Take a thin brush and line under brows and blend. Line eyes with Lancôme Artliner Liquid Liner in Noir. Slightly go out, creating a “cateye”. Coat top and bottom lashes with a volumizing mascara such as Benefit BadGal Lash Mascara in black. Use a pretty, healthy looking pink blush such as Lorac Powder Blush in Pink. This color provides a great “healthy” hue for pale skins. Line lips with YSL Dessin De Lèvres Lip Liner in Fuchsia. Apply a hot magenta shade of lipstick such as YSL Fard À Lèvres Rouge Pur Pure Lipstick in Fuschia Pink which is a perfect satin fuschia. Dab a little bit of Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve onto the bottom lip to create a “plumpy” look. Since you aren’t dressed until you spritz with perfume, I’d have to choose something fun and not too serious for this look. Something like YSL Baby Doll, a nice flirty floral.
