Barbie is still looking good for 50, the number she will be celebrating this year. Stila is offering a limited edition makeup collection in honor of America’s favorite plastic vixen.

There are 4 paint can makeup sets that go for $40. You really get a lot in them. Each “can” has a featured Barbie from various decades. The trios and cans are printed with the doll of choice:

1959 Ponytail Doll: This is the “classic” of the cans. The 3 Pan Palette has a sea blue shimmer eyeshadow, a matte black shadow that pairs nicely as a liner, and a beautiful peachy coral shimmer blush. There is a Lip Color in Ponytail which is a luscious matte red and a Liquid Liner in Black.

1971 Malibu Doll: This is the pretty summer look of the cans. The 3 Pan Palette has a pale pink shimmer eyeshadow that looks amazing on the brow bone, a light blue shimmer eyeshadow, and a bronzer that looks great on complexion or eyes. There is a Lip Glaze in Malibu which is a pale pinky peach shimmer that is so pretty. It can be worn with warm or cool colors. The last item is a Lash Visor Waterproof Mascara in Black. This is the “blonde” makeup kit. It would look killer on those with Barbie like complexions.

1980 Foxy Doll: This is like the “80’s” look but don’t be scared of it, it is pretty tame. The 3 Pan Palette has a taupe shimmer eyeshadow, brown with gold shimmers eyeshadow, and a matte reddish berry blush. There is a Lip Glaze in Foxy which is a sheer coral orange and a Waterproof Lash Visor Mascara in Black. This is a pretty kit and I really think it can work on medium to deep skintones as well.

2000 Jewel Doll: This is the “hip and modern” doll that resembles a little Disney Channel diva. The 3 Pan Palette contains a beautiful tan shadow with pink shimmers, a golden brown eyeshadow with shimmer, and a medium pearly pink blush. There is a Lip Glaze in Jewel which is a beautiful pink shimmer and a Multi-Effects Mascara in Black.

There is a Talking Palette Eye Shadow that goes for $40. There is an icy pink shimmer, medium pink with gold shimmers, rich cranberry, and an iris purple. I find that for me at least, these colors when used together make me look like I’ve been in a fight. I look tired and well, abused. The pigments aren’t so bold so they give a strange slapped and bruised look.

I like the cans. I just wish I could mix and match some of the colors but that is understood when purchasing any set. I’m not wild about the Talking Palette. The colors aren’t great and I don’t want to pay extra tohave my cosmetics talk to me. Creepy. All are available on sephora.com.

“Safari” fashion has been big this summer. Everything is khaki, olive, and very ‘Ernest Hemingway African safari” in both clothing and makeup. MAC has introduced “Style Warrior” for this summer. It’s style is still on par with other brands for this summer but it is much more “fierce”.

The packaging for all of the products is bronze with animal prints and “tribal” designs. I am a sucker for anything animal print so I really like the limited edition packaging.I believe the “leopard” print is for warmer undertones and the “zebra” print is for cooler undertones.

EYES: There are 5 Eye Shadows that retail for $14.50. There is Night Manoeuvres which is a smoky deep taupe. I love it on all eye colors. There is Soft Force which is a pale gold shimmer that works nicely on pale to medium skintones. There is Vibrant Grape which is a magenta. I think this would be amazing on medium skin to dark skintones with brown eyes or even green eyes. Bright Future is a bright yellow gold shimmer that will make blue eyes pop. And there is Tempting, a warm brown shimmer that is a beautiful neutral for summer. An Eye Kohl Pencil in Smolder (black) and Pro Lash Mascara have been relaunched.

LIPS & NAILS: There are 4 Lipsticks that retail for $14.00. Sunsational is a warm gold neutral that pairs nicely with a smoky eye. Brave New Bronze which is a pinky bronze neutral. Tribalist is a satin blackberry, I think it is my favorite lipstick in the collection. And there is Purple Rite which is a violet shimmer. I think this would be nice paired with a forest green smoky eye. There are 4 Lipglass Lip Glosses that go for $14. Liberated is a sheer gold that will add warmth over any shade. Gold Rebel is a coppery gold shimmer. Fierce & Fabulous is a frosty purpley pink, great for pale skins with dark hair. Style Warrior (my fave) is a blackened burgundy bronze. If your lips have a natural brown tone to them, this would be stunning. There are 3 Nail Lacquers. THere is Peaceable which is a super shimmery metallic golden beige. I love it with a tan. Mercenary which is a bronze with dark bronze shimmers, very “antiqued”. The last one is Violet Fire which is a bright magenta purple shimmer. Nail Colors go for $11.

FACE: There are 2 Beauty Powder Blushes. One is Eversun which is a bronze with gold shimmers, perfect for darker skins. THe other is On A Mission, a natural pinky plum. Both go for $18. There are 2 Bronzing Powders. One is Refined Gold and the other Solar Rich, retail for $21.  Items that have been relaunched: Solar Bits (love those babies), Lustre Drops, Iredescent Loose Powder, Skinsheen Leg Spray, and brushes.

Animal print bags have been launched with this collection. I like the collection but I haven’t purchased anything from it. There appears to be nothing that I don’t already own. If I fall for it, it would be because of the packaging.

Lancome’s summer color collections have been the same for years: shimmery shades of bronze for eyes and face paired with shimmer lips. Well, here we go again. Oh, except this time there are more “minerals”.

FACE: I like the Tropiques Minerale Smoothing Pressed Bronzer in Natural Sunkiss. It is a bronzer that works for light to medium skintones. Lancome’s market of bronzers was really missing out there. There is a Tropiques Mineral Loose Bronzer in Natural Ambre. This is a pretty shade but more “orangey”, excuse me “bronze”. Both go for $38.50. There is a Blush Subtil Powder Blush in Botanic Glow, a sheer peachy bronze. This retails for $29.50.

LIPS & NAILS: There are 6 Juicy Tubes Pure. These are the Juicy Tubes that you love but with “minerals”. The shades are pretty sheer and shimmery. A few worth noting are Bare Honey, a super pale gold shimmer, and Rose Water, a barely there pink. These go for $18. There are 4 Colour Fever Sheer Color Lipsticks. All are in sheer, natural tones of pink, , nude, and bronze. These retail for $25 and are a nice “smooth” formula. Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Nude has been relaunched. It goes for $23. There is a Le Vernis Nail Color in Exotique Kiss, this is a coral-ish pink shimmer. It goes for $18.

EYES: There are 3 Sensational Effects Eyeshadow Quads. There is Coral Paradise with shades of brown, gold, and coral. There is Safari Escapade which is about the same except with a green shade instead of coral. There is Bronze Midnight which has various warm precious metal shades. These come in a pretty and fancy compact and retail for $44. There are 2 Le Crayon Khol Kajal Eyeliner Pencils. This is a soft and easy to use formula. There is Midnight Glimmer which is a deep antique gold shimmer. This is a nice alternative to black. There is Gold Blaze which is a yellow gold shimmer. I like both of these and they retail for $23.50.

Overall the collection is “friendly” because it is netural. Many of the shades will work with any hair color or eye color. I would say that Coral Paradise would really make blue eyes pop and that Safari Escapade would look amazing with brown and hazel eyes. All eyes could benefit from Bronze Midnight (this is a kinder smokier eye for all skintones). I’m not going to rush out and buy any of this stuff. I’m interested in the bronzer but currently I am happy with Maybelline Mineral Wear products and boy are they cheaper.

Jungle animal trends are popular again this summer. MAC’s collection has that vibe and so does Smashbox. It only makes sense since safari prints and trends are so popular in clothing and accessories this summer as well.”Untamed” contains many pretty, deep, and mysterious shades.

FACE: There is a Creamy Cheek Color in Terracotta. This is a sheer color that is like the name implies, a terracotta. It can also be worn on the lips. It retails for $24. Sephora is offering a High Lights Cheek Luminizer. This is a long-wearing pink shimmer cream. It goes for $24.

EYES: There are 2 Waterproof Shadow Liner Trios. These are long wearing creams. There is Savage (yep, they went there); it contains a deep “jungle” green shimmer, nude champagne gold shimmer, and a deep chocolate brown shimmer. The other is Exotic; it contains a deep eggplant shimmer, pinky champagne shimmer, and a dusty mauve shimmer. Both are great for brown eyes, Exotic is great for green and hazel eyes. These retail for $29. The texture is OK but I must add that the lid be on tightly or these babies will dry out and be useless. That is the downside to waterproof cosmetics 😦 There is a Double-Ended Eye Brightener. This is really a jumbo “eyeliner” pencil that can be used as a highlighter for eyes or face. It contains a pinky champagne and a soft honey gold (think Benefit Tequila). It is a nice product but I don’t think I’ll fork over the $22 for it.

LIPS: There are 2 Lip Glosses. One is Raw which is a shimmery brick red. I really like this one on tan skin. The other is Flesh which is a satiny nude that looks great with dark eye makeup. These go for $18.

I am truly apathetic about this collection. I don’t dislike it other than its offensive names. I’m not in love with it either. It is one I’ll pass up this summer. The colors are OK but I have many of these things in my collection already. I must add that I do find these great “colors” for medium to tan complexions. They aren’t the typical “bronzes” of the season but they still look summery.

Look familiar? Yep, more pink and more frost. The poor model looks like a bridesmaid gone bad with that “collar” of flowers. The only difference from this collection and everybody else’s is that this is not a spring makeup collection but a summer one.

FACE: There is the Vivid Garden Illuminating Powder. It is a pretty shimmer palette featuring gold, pink, champagne, and violet. It is all a pretty flower print complete with dragonfly. It retails for $32. The Double Wear Makeup Foundation has been relaunched. This is a great selling product but I hate it. I’ll just keep it at that.

LIPS & NAILS: There is a pretty shade of Pure Color Crystal Lipstick in Sweet Lychee. This is a light pink shimmer that smells wonderful. It retails for $22 and like all of the other Pure Color products, I like the packaging. There is a Pure Color Lip Gloss with limited edition floral packaging. There is Lotus Blossom, a plumpy and pouty milky pink. It retails for $18. There is a Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Lotus Blossom which is a pale lilac pink. It retails for $18 and so far I have not been impressed with the formula.

EYES: There is an Eyeshadow Quad in Jasmine Garden. It is a bit Guerlain-ish becuase it features four shimmery shades with a dusting or pattern of gold flowers. It contains four pastel shades: pillow mint blue-green, periwinkle blue, soft pink, and white. The quad retails for $35. The TurboLash Mascara has been relaunched. In case there isn’t enough battery powered items in your life. There is a Duo-Tone Eye Pencil in Onyx Pearl. One end is a deep black and the other is an eye-opening pearly white. It retails for $18.50 and I like the formula.

The collection is OK. It is pastel and pink. It will look pretty bad on darker skintones in my opinion. This is the collection for pale gals with blonde, gray or brunette hair. It looks alot like many of the spring collections out there. I wouldn’t of guessed that this was for summer. Personally, I’m thinking more khaki and coral for summer. Oh, well.

Yves Saint Laurent’s spring 2009 color collection is made to represent “contemporary art” (like that actually has any meaning anymore.) I guess it does look like a watered down and pastel Rothko; however, it reminds me of soft watercolors, much like shu uemura’s spring 09 collection. I do like the look. I would of never of thought of pairing such warm peach lips with cool “mermaid” like shades. But, I have to admit that I like it. The colors are very “spring”.

FACE: There is the Palette d’Artiste Collector Pallete for Complexion. It contains four powder face colors for the face and retails for $62. It has a perfect bronze, pale pink highlighter, pretty pink blush, and a vivid and tiny stripe of coral. I really like the compact. It is “striped” so I would obsess over mixing the colors. I would want to keep it in its pretty and new state. But, that is just because I am weird.

EYES: There is the Palette d’Artiste Palette for Eyes. It contains four powder eyeshadows and retails for $62. The colors include: sheer and pale honey gold, soft and light pearly pink, tiny stripe of deep purple, and smoky sage. The colors are pretty. Stuff that I would of never paired together and think pairing them together will take alot of work. Two Ombre Duolumieres Eye Shadow Duos have been relaunched. This includes Ivory Beige/Deep Black and Oatmeal/ Petroleum Blue. These retail for $41. An Ever Steel Blue Everlong  Lengthing Mascara has been launched. I love colored mascara. It retails for $28.50. Two Automatic Eyeliners have been launched in Easy Brown and Easy Blue. These retail for $32.

LIPS & NAILS: There is the Gloss Pur Lip Gloss and I love it. Each tube goes for $29. These colors are super glossy and beautiful and without the shimmer. Some of my favorites include Pure Coral as seen on the model above, Pure Rose which is a super sheer 60’s pink, Sheer Nude which is a super sheer milky beige, and Pure Raspberry which is a vivid warm pink. There are a few Rouge Pur Lipsticks with SPF. They retail for $30. There is Blazing Red, Silky Apricot, Paradise Pink, Romantic Pink, Hazlenut, and Tea Rose. I really like all of the shades especially Blazing Red, Silky Apricot, and Paradise Pink. Two super cool Nail Touch Nail Colors are out in Tender Pink Touch and Coral Touch. They are both very sheer and retail for $26.

I am a huge fan of the lipcolors in this collection. I love “milky” shades. The gloss is very pretty. The limited edition items are OK. They all come in super luxurious gold compacts. I am tempted by the face palette but I doubt I’ll give in. I’m no longer easily impressed and my collection is filled to the max.

shu uemura’s Mirage spring 2009 collection is super soft and delicate with unexpected color combinations. The colors are supposed to be “whimsical and dreamy”. It plays with “light” and “shadow”.  It is very pretty and artistic like watercolors but I fear that it will truly wash me out. However, each separate color is very beautiful. I could wear all the colors, just not together.

FACE:There are two Defining Cheek Palettes. I really like these. Each contain a cream and a powder blush. Used together, the palettes create depth and highlight the complexion. I usually wear a cream blush with a powder blush over it. It wears for such a long time. There is Orange Phase which has a beautiful contouring taupe brown and a bright orange. I love an orange blusher. There is Misty Glow which is a peachy nude and a spring violet. These colors are also pretty but like the other, a bit hard to wear. These retail for $38.

EYES: There are two Eye Shadow Palettes. Each contains three eyeshadow shades. There is Utopia. It is a soft sage green, lighter neutral brown, and baby blue. The colors are very pretty, would look nice used in a room but I will have to play around with them more to see how they work on me. I find that the brown makes things look a bit mucky or too purpley. There is Fantasia. It has a baby pink, smoky plum, and light violet. The colors are very pretty and do work nicely together. I like the pink with the plum in the crease or the violet with the plum in the crease. This would be very pretty with hazel or green eyes. Both retail for $40. There are three Drawing Pencils for Eyes. The formula is nice and smooth. The colors are metallic and really do play with “light”. There is Light Blue, Lilac, and Pink. They retail for $19.

LIPS: There are three Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks. There is 347 which is a medium vivid pink, 768 which is a toned down berry, and 934 which is a warm nude. Each retail for $34. There is a Lip Duo & Tint. It contains a bright red lip tint with a sheer pink gloss. It is a very pretty springy duo. The pots are stackable. This duo retails for $32.

shu uemura cosmetics are usually very nice in quality. The colors are usually very interesting and still very wearable. I like a few of these shades but I didn’t purchase anything from this collection. I didn’t feel the colors really worked for me. I think the eyeshadows will look great on lighter complected blondes and brunettes. I think they will work nicely with blue, hazel and green eyes. The cheek colors are fun but really don’t work for everyone. The lipstick shades are pretty basic, but I do like the lip duo. It looks very “fresh” when paired with pale pink blush and a coat of mascara.
