Weekly Cheap Secret:

I bought this strange thing. OK, it has a name eos which stands for Evolution of Smooth. I was attracted to this product because it is 95% USDA organic and 100% natural with ingredients like shea butter and olive oil, even has honeysuckle flower extract! I needed a lip balm and thought I would try something new. (OK maybe not needed…) I’m not tired of my Rose Bud Salve, I love that stuff. I  just wanted something less glossy. I need a “balm”. I ordered this from drugstore.com for $3.99. I couldn’t really judge scale or anything from it because I have never seen this product in person before. I guess it is sold at Target and at Safeway here in the PNW.  I was tempted by the “honeysuckle” flavor claim. I wanted it to take me back to my childhood when sucking the nectar out of honeysuckle blossoms was the best treat ever. Well, this is the “smooth sphere” so what I got was a strange melon green sphere thing the size of a small chicken or quail egg with a twist off top. Unfortunately mine looks dirty because it rolled around and got grimy in the drugstore.com box. Inside is a lip balm, like the size of a small quail egg. It’s huge and you just apply it like you would a tube lip balm. I have a big mouth and one swipe and I’m done. It reminds me of those old school and huge Lip Smackers. One swipe of those and I was done too. I think when it gets flat, I can just use my fingers to get it out. I don’t know yet. The fragrance is more honeydew melon and not honeysuckle.  It’s a fresh and very sweet honeydew melon that doesn’t smell “fake” like a Lip Smackers 🙂 Really the odor is very faint and not offensive, I just wish it was more floral. However, the flavor is sweet like honeysuckle. Not the type of floral sweet found in honeysuckle but more like the sweet “honey”/nectar found in a honeysuckle. I really don’t “smell” it but I taste it. The balm is smooth, not sticky. I like the way it feels. It is a good lip balm, not too thick or waxy but not too thin or overly slippery. Unfortunately it doesn’t wear very long and I find that I have to reapply very, very frequently. It’s not a bad product, my only complaint is the lasting power. . Mainly I like the strange shape which reminds me of a Kinder Egg with a lip balmy surprise. The sphere also comes in Summer Fruit and Sweet Mint. eos also sells from their website. They also sell a shaving cream and lip balm in a stick form.

I remember when I first saw this. I thought it would be so gross. I was imagining the actual DKNY Be Delicious fragrance infused into a clear, shiny lip gloss tube. Even as a fragrance fan, nothing is worse than having a “perfumey” lip gloss. I’ve revisited this product because apples are falling off of trees here in Washington. Since I am new to the area, this is very novel.

DKNY Be Delicous Lip Gloss is a clear super shiny lip gloss with medium thickness. It is loaded with a green apple scent and flavor. This is not Jolly Rancher green apple. This is still a bit “synthetic” but not candy-ish. Apple scents are hard to replicate. It is very fresh, crisp and juicy. I’m not a huge fan of DKNY Be Delicious, it makes me sneezy, but I do like this fun product.  It retails for $16 and it available at sephora.com and nordstrom.com.

I’ve been using this Kiss My Face Certified Orangic Lip Balm in Sliced Peach for a few months and I like it. I have a fuzzy food phobia which means I won’t eat peaches or kiwi or anything “fuzzy” but I love the smell of peaches. This smells real and not artificial and has a fresh peach aroma. It is made of 52% certified organic materials if you care about that.  It has Royal Jelly and Vitamin E and a SPF of 15. Most SPF lip products make my lips feel itchy, uncomfortable and cause a burning raw sensation. This does not which is a big plus. I can’t figure out why some do. This is my “outdoor” lip balm because of the SPF factor. It isn’t too thick or thin. It doesn’t have an offensive odor. It doesn’t last very long because it isn’t a thick lip balm. I do reapply more frequently than with most other products. This doesn’t bother me since I carry it with me and have no applying makeup in public hangups. You can keep reapplying it and it doesn’t get waxy, slimy or hard on the lips. It retails for $3.49 which isn’t a horrible price. You can buy it at drugstore.com or from the Kiss My Face online store.

Cherry

Cherry

I was bored out of mind the other day and remembered that I had a few drugstore items on my list. I wandered around a bit because I usually order from drugstore.com and felt lost in an actual store. Anyways, I stumbled across the great Nivea Lip Care A Kiss Of Flavor Lip Balm. Typically, I use Rosebud Salve or Guerlain Divinora, so maybe that is why these are really “fun” compared to my other choices. These Nivea balms are identical to the Labello Tinted and Flavored Lip Balms that I used to buy in Germany. (The Passion Fruit Labello is Nivea Passion Fruit.) I loved Labello because of the awesome smoothness and amount of product in the tube. Nivea is no disappointment. The tube is crammed full of smooth, lip nourishing glossy balm. It is enhanced with jojoba and almond oils and shea butter just like Labello. Cherry has a punch of juicy cherry flavor and a sheer healthy red tint that is your lips but better. Nivea Passion Fruit has a yummy passion fruit flavor and a hint of violet that really works for my skintone and adds a very sheer, natural color to my lips. The texture is so smooth, non-sticky, not heavy or greasy. The hints of color and flavors are so fun without being Bonne Bell Lip Smackers. I am so happy to find these in the States. The drugstore had a Hint of Shimmer too which looks like a champagne shimmer balm. I bought mine for 1.99 and drugstore.com has it’s listed at $2.49. They are awesome and I’m going back for Hint of Shimmer. This is a big deal because Labello retails for $7.95 to $8.95 plus ridiculous shipping charges on smallflower.com and I am so happy that I found Nivea! Heck, the packaging is even the same.

The packaging is simple but adorable like most Phiolosophy products. This is a new Lip Shine Trio set: The Soda Fountain. It contains three yummy and fizzy lip glosses that are packed with the right amount of shine and flavor. There is Cherry Cola which smells like the real thing with a hint of burgundy shine. There is Root Beer which you can feel the tickle of bubbles and it has a hint of brown shine. There is Fruit Punch which is very fruity and sweet with a hint of red shine. The texture of the gloss is nice and does pack a flavor. It is a fun product even though Bonne Bell makes similar items for dirt cheap. This product is a little more grown up than Lip Smackers and the cost is more. The 3 piece kit goes for $28 and makes a really cute gift. You can get it at sephora.com or philosophy.com.
