I am totally craving dark green nails for the cooler months. (It all started with Butter London’s British Racing Green.) I have been searching for the perfect, mysterious, deep, dark green. I want something the color of a Douglas fir tree. I think an evergreen makes a great winter shade. Here is a list of dark green nail colors that I have stumbled across.

Budget green colors (Under $5): NYX Nail Polish in Las Vegas (not pictured) is a shimmery green with envy deep money green. It’s a nice formula and a good price at $4. Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Fast Dry Nail Color in Jumpin’ Jade Frost is a perfect for winter, shimmery, rich peacock green shade. I really do love this formula because it does dry quickly and you never have to worry about smudges. It retails for about $4. Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Green With Envy is a jade-ish green shimmer. It takes a few coats to get it darker. It has a nice price at about $3. It isn’t my favorite out of this list but it is what you pay for and nice if you don’t plan on wearing this color very frequently.

More Expensive green colors (Over $5): I’m totally obsessed with Butter London Nail Lacquer in British Racing Green. “British racing green” is one of my favorite colors anyways. I’ve always wanted a vintage Triumph in this shade. It’s snazzy. This shade is dead on that “racy” color. The formula is great and it’s a Seattle based company so I have to love them. It’s pricey at $14. OPI for Sephora Nail Coulour has Dark Room. This is a satin shimmer free deep, almost black green. I wanted to love this color but when I saw it in person, I found it to be less than “film-noir” inspired like the claim but more mucky and boring. It is still a nice alternative to black though. It retails for $9. Lippman Collection Nail Color in Don’t Tell Mama is a super shimmery, metallic deep green with a dash of blue. It’s enchanting, very festive. It goes for $16. OPI Nail Color in Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow (not pictured) is a rich, moody emerald. It’s a beautiful shade that goes for about $8. Illamasqua Nail Varnish (not pictured) in Rampage is a nice dark forest green that looks like what I am looking for; however, I have never tried this formula. It retails for $14.

Who doesn’t want to look like a totally hot babe actress and totally hot babe scientist? Seriously.

FACE: While you are working on your canvas, apply a nourishing lip balm like Yu-Be Lip Balm. This is important because this is a matte lip look and lips need to be moist and chap-free. Hedy’s complexion is matte and flawless. First even out complexion with a matte foundation such as YSL Matt Touch Foundation. Apply concealer where needed. Estee Lauder Smoothing Creme Concealer is great for under the eyes. I wouldn’t wear powder with this look since a matte foundation was used. But, if you are oily, do dust lightly with a translucent powder to set the makeup. Take a big fluffy brush and apply a coral pink blush to cheeks. A color like Benefit Coralista will really brighten the complexion without being brash. It really is a great coral blush for pale skins.

EYES: Heidy’s brows are penciled. We all can’t do that. However, the brows should be nicely manicured. If necessary fill in the brows with a pencil such as Tarte EmphasEyes High Definition Brow Pencil. This is a thin pencil with a spoolie on one end. Eyes are very neutral and it is all about the lashes. Apply a nude matte shadow from lash line to brows. For a complexion like Hedy’s this would be Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Vintage Lace. Apply a sheer light brown shade from lash line to crease. A color like Bare Escentuals Eyeshadow in Bisque. If you have a bronzer this will do too. Apply it like an eyeshadow. In the crease apply a light steel color like Dr.Hauschka Eyeshadow Solo in #4, a smoky gray brown. Also apply this gray closely to the bottom lash line to give the illusion of fuller bottom lashes. Line eyes closely with a gel eyeliner like Shu Uemura Painting Gel Eyeliner in M Black. I think false lashes are a must for this look but mascara will do to. Apply what you want.

LIPS: Lips are matte and pretty bold. Wipe off lip balm. Apply foundation to the lips to create a blank canvas. Apply Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Rust. Apply a matte rust lipstick like Sue Devitt Balanced Matte Lipstick in Phuket, a perfectly matte rusty red. If you must have a glossier lip, more satin because you are not used to matte lipsticks, try Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in Rust. It’s a rusty shade with a bit more sheen.

It’s really difficult to decide what fragrance a beauty like Hedy would wear. But, I would have to go with something modern, woodsy but femme like Tom Ford Private Blend Black Violet. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go dye my hair to a nice raven shade. I am loving this look for fall.

MAC has launched this season’s Cult of Cherry which I dig. I love dark lips and this collection offers that. It is a pretty edgy look. MAC made a long ass video for the collection too that can be viewed on the website. It also has three eyeshadow quads but I’m going to review Tempting. Tempting is pretty nice and kind of boring except for the acidic pop of the green which I find so similar to the eye shadow Bitter. Bitter is one of my favorite eyeshadows. I miss it with Chrome Yellow and a black with a pearly white highlighter such as Carbon and Crystal Avalanche. I also were it with bright blues like Freshwater and Electric Eel. I have paired Bitter with bronzes and browns with a bit of Gorgeous Gold. Sometimes I just wash the lid with Bitter and line with lots of black liquid liner. So what I’m saying is that I like Bitter. This compact offers that shade without calling it Bitter. In fact I don’t remember what it is called. The other shades in the quad include a shimmery nude, golden shimmery medium brown, and a dark warm brown. The shadows are a collection of satin, frost, and lustre and I think they all blend well. These all look great together. I didn’t buy the compact because I have colors are identical to this. See I can be financially responsible. The compact is limited edition and retails for $36 and the compact can be refilled. It’s really nice if you have nothing like it.

Kevyn Aucoin is a makeup artist god. He was a man of talent and new how to pull the strings of pop culture. I see his legacy in the product Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Lipstick. It has that disco gal vibe. It is an amazing full-coverage lipstick gloss. It has the coverage and color of a lipstick and the super shine of an awesome gloss. It really makes lips pop and look fuller.

For some reason I have always loved liquid lipstick. Maybe because it is novel, who knows. I just like this product because it is so patent leather. It is a fun product and a grown up gals lip gloss.  There are five shades. All are super shiny. One of my faves is Aquarouge which is a deep plummy red brown that will look hot for fall. There is Aurelia which is soft pink that looks great with gold or silver eyes. There is Dollphine which is a warm nude that is hot with smoky eyes. There is Ondine which is a bright poppy red that screams discotheque. Reyna is a peachy melon coral that looks awesome on tanned skin and bronzer.

These retail for $27 and you can get them at sephora.com and beauty.com.

I love dark lips which led me to my good friend MAC Viva Glam III Lipstick. This shade is a matte and mute brownish plum. It is chock full of pigment and offers full coverage with a lovely matte finish. I admit that sometimes it is tricky. If you must wear lip balm under this color make sure it is applied evenly or this lipstick will apply very splotchy and make you look kind of like a pit bull. This color was launched in 2000 and I still love it. It comes in the Viva Glam red and black bullet case and has a soft vanilla fragrance. It is my go to for fall or when I dye my hair a burgundy shade. I’m not the only one craving dark lips for fall. All the makeup companies are pushing it such as Sephora, MAC, Smashbox, etc. and it is in all the beauty magazines.

I’ve taken a picture of my lipstick. The flash washed it out a bit but not too much. Just imagine the shade without the sheen of the flash and that is it.

I’ve also taken a picture of myself wearing this lipstick which came out looking like a goth girl MySpace photo. I now know why everyone’s social networking pictures are so lame and serious looking. I thought they were trying to look sexy like they were in an Euro Vogue or something but you’re so serious because you are concentrating on taking a picture of yourself. It’s hard and my arms are up in the air snapping a photo it makes my face look stupid. Anyways, please ignore this. I just wanted to give an example of the look I love. It isn’t perfect and my hair isn’t even brushed…

So, I love dark lips with minimal eye makeup. It takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. I am going to tell you what products I used for this Iook. First, I applied Lancome Aqua Fusion Teinté Tinted Moisturizer in Shade 1. I applied Lancome Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer in Light Buff which I mix with a little of Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. I love the slip that this provides. I covered a few spots with Maybelline Pure Concealer in Light. ( I love this product!) And I brushed my face with a huge kabuki brush covered with Lancome Dual Finish Powder Makeup in Matte Ecru. I brushed my brows with Lancome Modèle Sourcils in Châtaigne. I applied Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in ABC Gum which is a light peach all over the lid. I brushed and blended Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Secret Service which is a matte warm brown. I coated lashes with Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Blasting Mascara in Very Black. (This isn’t horrible mascara, I just don’t know if I’ll purchase again unless I get another awesome coupon that makes it almost free .) I took a large fluffy blush brush and applied Cover Girl Cheekers Blush in Golden Pink. I love Cover Girl Blush and the price is right. I don’t know if this is the best shade for me (others one make me look more alive), I feel it doesn’t photograph well but of course nothing does with a harsh flash on a digi camera. And nothing makes one look much paler than the flash of a digi cam. Finally, I applied Almay Ideal Lipliner in Wine and coated my lips with MAC Viva Glam III Lipstick. Finished in 7 minutes while my ginger tea was still brewing.

Here are some tips for the lips. If you worry about splotchiness with such a pigment packed matte, apply a lip base or concealer or foundation onto the lips to create a smooth canvas. I do this sometimes but then I find it may or may not mess with the vibrancy of the color. I always line my lips when using an intense shade. I like it harsh so I use a darker lip liner. Any liner will work, a nude is perfect for everything. Finally, A Q-Tip is your best friend. If you paint outside of the lines just go around with a Q-Tip to get the perfect pout. Blot if you must.

It’s that simple and you’ll always looked made up and fab.
