OK, you all know that I am a Guerlain fragrance and cosmetics mega-fan. That being said, I shocked to see their model for the fall color collection. Doesn’t she look totally insane? Doesn’t that look like the makeup application that would be seen on Whatever Happened To Baby Jane (oh, I do love that movie) sans the ghostly face powder? They really should of rethought releasing this or at least fire the makeup artist responsible for this terrifying look. The model even has an uneasy expression about all of this. Poor, poor gal. Maybe her expression is what makes the look so disturbing. I hope the photographer doesn’t beat her. Well, the colors of the collection aren’t too bad and many of the products are very nice. It’s just that the look that presented is just awful and they made a beautiful gal look like she is going to serve you your pet for dinner and smile while doing it. But, anyways. I think this collection is supposed to be all luxe and opulent. It’s supposed to be hedonistic and self indulgent with a mix of Russian royalty and bohemian or maybe a bit of glam gypsy look. I don’t know. I’m thinking something pre-Russian Revolution and before those pesky Bolsheviks got in the way of the wealth. 🙂 The company’s website hasn’t released these details yet. The collection offers the following:

EYES: There is an OmbrĂ© Éclat Eyeshadow Palette for $58 that comes in a shimmery blackish gold compact. The colors are imprinted with a “champagne shimmer” design. The shades are inspired by Russian princesses and their OTT glimmery gowns. There is Brun Mordore which contains shimmering shades of browns and black. This compact creates a nice smoky eye for all eyes and can be worn during the day too. Just depends on your technique. The other is Tsarina which contains a warm brown shimmer, bronze shimmer, burgundy shimmer, and plum shimmer. Tsarina has lovely colors but I don’t think they all mix very well together. They could but they also have the chance of creating bruised looking eyes (check out the lady above). I do think if done right this compact would look amazing on cool toned eyes like blue. There is a Eye & Lip Palette for $69. It comes in a luxe case that is Slavic inspired. It contains 2 eyeshadows (champagne pink sparkle and a sea pebble taupe shimmer) and 2 lipcolors (sparkling party pink and a shimmer rosewood neutral). I like the palette but I don’t see myself buying it. I don’t like eye and lip products packaged together. The powders always mix and clump with the oil based lip products. It’s gross. I do like the colors featured but I don’t feel they are worth the dough. Retractable Eyeliner Pens have been launched and retail for $29. They come in elegant gold packaging. Two will be permanent: Gold & Silver. The other is Bohemian and it is a deep shimmery plum. Le 2 Guerlain Mascara has been relaunched along with a new color Boheme. This retails for $35.

LIPS: There is a KissKiss Baby Lip Balm (see had to put baby in the title) that retails for $30. I love this product. It is super moisturizing, lightly tinted with shine, and it comes in a ultra-glam Guerlain case. It comes in 6 colors ranging from clear to rosy neutrals. My favorite is Red Nude.

FACE: The Parure Compact Foundation has been relaunched. This is a great powder foundation that retails for $60.

This collection is available at Nordstrom and Dillard’s.

Hmm, this Guerlain collection is much too close...

Yves Saint Laurent’s spring 2009 color collection is made to represent “contemporary art” (like that actually has any meaning anymore.) I guess it does look like a watered down and pastel Rothko; however, it reminds me of soft watercolors, much like shu uemura’s spring 09 collection. I do like the look. I would of never of thought of pairing such warm peach lips with cool “mermaid” like shades. But, I have to admit that I like it. The colors are very “spring”.

FACE: There is the Palette d’Artiste Collector Pallete for Complexion. It contains four powder face colors for the face and retails for $62. It has a perfect bronze, pale pink highlighter, pretty pink blush, and a vivid and tiny stripe of coral. I really like the compact. It is “striped” so I would obsess over mixing the colors. I would want to keep it in its pretty and new state. But, that is just because I am weird.

EYES: There is the Palette d’Artiste Palette for Eyes. It contains four powder eyeshadows and retails for $62. The colors include: sheer and pale honey gold, soft and light pearly pink, tiny stripe of deep purple, and smoky sage. The colors are pretty. Stuff that I would of never paired together and think pairing them together will take alot of work. Two Ombre Duolumieres Eye Shadow Duos have been relaunched. This includes Ivory Beige/Deep Black and Oatmeal/ Petroleum Blue. These retail for $41. An Ever Steel Blue Everlong  Lengthing Mascara has been launched. I love colored mascara. It retails for $28.50. Two Automatic Eyeliners have been launched in Easy Brown and Easy Blue. These retail for $32.

LIPS & NAILS: There is the Gloss Pur Lip Gloss and I love it. Each tube goes for $29. These colors are super glossy and beautiful and without the shimmer. Some of my favorites include Pure Coral as seen on the model above, Pure Rose which is a super sheer 60’s pink, Sheer Nude which is a super sheer milky beige, and Pure Raspberry which is a vivid warm pink. There are a few Rouge Pur Lipsticks with SPF. They retail for $30. There is Blazing Red, Silky Apricot, Paradise Pink, Romantic Pink, Hazlenut, and Tea Rose. I really like all of the shades especially Blazing Red, Silky Apricot, and Paradise Pink. Two super cool Nail Touch Nail Colors are out in Tender Pink Touch and Coral Touch. They are both very sheer and retail for $26.

I am a huge fan of the lipcolors in this collection. I love “milky” shades. The gloss is very pretty. The limited edition items are OK. They all come in super luxurious gold compacts. I am tempted by the face palette but I doubt I’ll give in. I’m no longer easily impressed and my collection is filled to the max.

shu uemura’s Mirage spring 2009 collection is super soft and delicate with unexpected color combinations. The colors are supposed to be “whimsical and dreamy”. It plays with “light” and “shadow”.  It is very pretty and artistic like watercolors but I fear that it will truly wash me out. However, each separate color is very beautiful. I could wear all the colors, just not together.

FACE:There are two Defining Cheek Palettes. I really like these. Each contain a cream and a powder blush. Used together, the palettes create depth and highlight the complexion. I usually wear a cream blush with a powder blush over it. It wears for such a long time. There is Orange Phase which has a beautiful contouring taupe brown and a bright orange. I love an orange blusher. There is Misty Glow which is a peachy nude and a spring violet. These colors are also pretty but like the other, a bit hard to wear. These retail for $38.

EYES: There are two Eye Shadow Palettes. Each contains three eyeshadow shades. There is Utopia. It is a soft sage green, lighter neutral brown, and baby blue. The colors are very pretty, would look nice used in a room but I will have to play around with them more to see how they work on me. I find that the brown makes things look a bit mucky or too purpley. There is Fantasia. It has a baby pink, smoky plum, and light violet. The colors are very pretty and do work nicely together. I like the pink with the plum in the crease or the violet with the plum in the crease. This would be very pretty with hazel or green eyes. Both retail for $40. There are three Drawing Pencils for Eyes. The formula is nice and smooth. The colors are metallic and really do play with “light”. There is Light Blue, Lilac, and Pink. They retail for $19.

LIPS: There are three Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks. There is 347 which is a medium vivid pink, 768 which is a toned down berry, and 934 which is a warm nude. Each retail for $34. There is a Lip Duo & Tint. It contains a bright red lip tint with a sheer pink gloss. It is a very pretty springy duo. The pots are stackable. This duo retails for $32.

shu uemura cosmetics are usually very nice in quality. The colors are usually very interesting and still very wearable. I like a few of these shades but I didn’t purchase anything from this collection. I didn’t feel the colors really worked for me. I think the eyeshadows will look great on lighter complected blondes and brunettes. I think they will work nicely with blue, hazel and green eyes. The cheek colors are fun but really don’t work for everyone. The lipstick shades are pretty basic, but I do like the lip duo. It looks very “fresh” when paired with pale pink blush and a coat of mascara.

My eye.

My eye.

I have blue eyes and khaki or olive eye makeup really doesn’t make them stand out but I do love the look because it works with my complexion and dyed red hair. I love olive eyeshadows are dark skintones and ladies with brown or hazel eyes. If you have a bit of violet in your eyes it will make them pop. Plus, khakis and olives look great on redheads including the au naturale redheads that I am so jealous of. It is stunning and easy. It can be applied like a “wash” and it looks wonderful. It makes a great smoky eye without using the much too harsh black that most people reach for. Some of my favorite olive shadows include the following:

Pick Your Own Singles: Cheaper-What I am wearing in the pic above is mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Vintage Khaki. It is a deep khaki infused with tons of gold shimmer. It is long wearing even without a base and it retails for $4. The case is sold separately. More Expensive-I also like Prescriptives Colorscope Eye Color in Sage. It looks alot like the mark one. It retails for $14 and the case is sold separately. Both of these look nice paired with nude shimmers or golds as a base.

Shimmer Singles: Cheaper- I like L’Oreal Eyeshadow Single in Golden Olive which is a medium olive shade that retails for under $5. One of my all time favorites is Milani Powder Eyeshadow in Golden Bronze which is a green with pearly gold and it retails for under $4. I have went through many of these, have I mentioned they look great on redheads? Even the natural kind. More ExpensiveLorac has an Eyeshadow Single in Olive which is a nice medium olive shimmer that retails for $17. Another really nice one is MAC Eyeshadow in Greensmoke which is a deep dark olive shimmer that retails for $14.50. There is also Sumptous Olive which is nice but a bit more khaki and with less “green”. Lancome Color Design Eyeshadow in Designer is an awesome super shimmery olive with silver shimmer. It retails for $16.50. For a more brown but still green shimmer, Dior 1-Colour Mono Eyeshadow in Khakis is very shimmery and nice. It retails for $25.

Matte : Cheaper L’Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Duo in Forest is nice. It has a matte soft clover green and a matte medium olive. It retails for under $6. More Expensive– This is a bit of a matte, Lancome Color Design Eyeshadow in Dill. It is a deep olive with minimal gold shimmer. It retails for $16.50. Make Up For Ever has a matte olive in Olive Green 47 and it retails for $19. I find that there aren’t many matte shadows on the market in this shade. I must say that olives really do benefit from shimmer. It seems to add depth and keeps the eye area from looking too “dead”. I have all three mentioned above and I like them. They don’t make me look like a rotting zombie corpse.

Duo/Sets: CheaperL’Oreal Eye Shadow Quads in Landscape and Eva’s Violets have nice olives and other coordinating shades. These retail for under $7. Revlon 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Spring Moss has a lovely khaki and three other nice greens. It retails for under $7.  More Expensive YSL 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes in Garden of Eden has a nice olive and four other great greens for $56. DuWop Smoke in Olive Branch makes a great olive smoky eye and retails for $28. It comes with a gel liner and shimmery eyeshadow.

Eyeliner: Cheaper Sephora Slim Eye Pencil in Olive is OK for the $5 price tag. I also like Covergirl Outlast Smoothwear All Day Eyeliner in Olive because it is so smooth. It retails for under $7. Another nice one is Avon Ultra Luxury Eye Liner in Khaki. It retails for $5 and creates a soft line.  More Expensive– MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Forever Green which is an olive shimmer that retails for $14.50. It has a really smooth formula and wears for hours! One of my favorite liners ever is the one I am wearing in the pic above. It is Lancome Artliner in Starshower. As you can see, it is an olive that is so dark that it is almost black with lots of gold shimmer. It retails for $28 and looks awesome just worn alone. It is way more fun than your basic black and it is much more flattering for hazel eyes. Black can be too harsh on most skintones as well and it can be aging! I also like Dior Waterproof Crayon Eyeliner in Iridescent Khaki. It is very long wearing and retails for $26 and comes with its own sharpener.

I am always on the look out for a great gimmick. I still can’t get over all of the rub-on eyeshadows appliques that are on the market. Anyways, Avon has recently launched these Eye Artist Eyeshadow Trios. It is the “first shadow that looks like an eye!” Wow, that is a selling point, um, I’m being sarcastic. What a funny gimmick since it really doesn’t claim to do anything but have different packaging. It is supposed to remind our dumbasses how to apply eyeshadow. Like light all over, medium from lashline to crease, and deep in the middle. Base, contour, and highlight. Duh. I haven’t tried the product so I can’t tell you how the powder shadows wear or feel. The packaging is a bit strange but I guess it is a little cool. I guess. I retails for $8 when not on sale. It comes in four shades: Grey Guidance for a smoky look, Naturally Neutral which looks like a beach pebble neutral, Passion Plum which is featured above, and Teal Tutor which is the water colored teal and the most interesting looking to me.

shu eumara is offering us some bold colors and graphic floral packages to wake us up this holiday season. This winter isn’t about snowflakes but the anticipation of spring and bold blossoms. The collection is a project between shu and Mika Ninagawa, a Japanese photographer and director. The colors range from wake me up bolds to everyday neutrals. I love it. It is graphic, it is colorful and the packaging is pure artwork. I love the ad campaign. All of the models look flawless and I am all about these “fascinator” headwear things.

EYES: There are three limited edition eyeshadow eye color palettes. Each compact contains 10 wonderful mixable shades. Midnight Winter Sakura comes in a beautiful cherry blossom compact. The colors are a little more “winter-ish” than the others. They are rich and neutral. It comes with rich browns, taupes, mauves and a blue. There is Adorned Marguerite. The compact is plastered with 60’s flower power daisies. The colors in this compact are a bit bolder. The colors range from lime green to baby pink to acid yellow to cool purple. It is a very beautiful compact with lots of possibilities. Lastly, there is Secret Luscious Rose. The compact is covered with romantic red roses. The colors are dusty and range from mauve to gray to moss. It’s very lovely and make great “neutrals” that aren’t just brown. There is a Drawing Pencil Mini Trio Set. It contains three mini liners in a rich blue, warm burgundy-ish brown and rich black. They all come in a blue rose box. Two artistic set of lashes are available. There is the lovely pair, Mini Red, seen on the model above. And there is a Slant Purple pair which is just heavenly too.

LIPS: There are two adorable Unlimited Lip Gloss Mini Trio Sets that contain three min glosses and a super cute, graphic makeup bag. There is Seductive Gerbera which comes with a red gerbera bag. The glosses are beautiful and contain a nude gold, baby pink and a rich wine. The other set is Delicous Rose which comes in a tropical orange rose bag. The glosses are bold and vivid and contain a bright orange, bright fuschia and a vivid red. Three Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks in a peony pink and white case have been launched. The three colors include: Brown Beige, Orange Beige and Pink Beige. The last being my favorite.

OTHER STUFF: Two Nail Enamels are available in Tanzanite Aquarium. It is a color changing rich blue with silver glitter. The other is Garnet Aquarium which is a deep shimmering merlot. There is a portable brush set that comes in a beautiful red rose bag. And there is a makeup bag with rainbow colored chrysantheums.

I like it, I really like the eye color palettes the best. I may need one of them to help me make it through the gloomy winter that is ahead. Find out more about the collection on shuuemura-usa.com.

I’m not a snob. I love cosmetics and I am willing to try everything. If you read this blog you know that I love expensive stuff and cheap stuff. I don’t sit in my little Target desk chair and hate on Avon. They actually make some nice stuff. True, the Avon lady thing is odd but you don’t have to have one to buy their stuff. They’ve been stepping up their game. (They is Avon). I loved what they did with Cynthia Rowley. So, when I found out they were doing something with Marimekko, one of my favorite brands, I was so excited. I found this out in February and was so siked for fall. I knew I would buy every piece for like under $50 and it would be so damn cute that I would see all other makeup as boring garbage. Boy, was I wrong. I got on Avon’s mailing list and demanded to know exactly when this stuff launched. I researched it. I wanted to know how wonderful it would be. Everything brought up this print:

I thought to myself this would rock! Cases imprinted with this. I’ve seen this print done in red and we’d have a rocking red lipstick offered! No instead we have been offered ugly as hell face powder and eyeshadow. They couldn’t even make their model look good. Her makeup looks awful. She is a washed out dated blob. Great way to make a pretty gal look stupid.  This is the all over face powder palette. The colors seem drab and boring. I would of rather had a printed compact with a pretty color inside. This is ugly. One person said it was too shimmery. Well, at least it has shimmer going for it. Next we have the eyeshadow palette. This is a poppy print, why are the colors so drab? Poppy Bloom looks like when poppies need antidepressants and Poppy Bouquet looks like it would of worked, maybe. I do love teal. And still I am turned off by this. Where are the warm colors? Where are the golds, bronzes, reds? Where is a lipstick or a gloss? I can’t believed they signed a contract with Marimekko, a fun, retro company and made this garbage. I don’t want to waste my money on this. Rumor has it that there was supposed to be a gloss, lipstick, mascara, all in cute packaging. However, it isn’t available to Americans. I don’t know why. I would of bought a mascara with a Marimekko packaging. At least Avon couldn’t of messed up the color of that. I can’t believe they didn’t do red. Oh, well thank you Avon for letting me save my money and buy the Marimekko fabric instead.

TheBalm is a really cute company. I love any company that loves pugs. And everybody that knows me knows that I love puggy babies. Anyways, TheBalm has launched an eyeshadow palette that contains nine of their eyeshadows all tucked into a leopard print cardboard case. I love leopard print but I am not too wild about this print. Or maybe it is this print with that font? I don’t know, it just reminds me of like flame fuzzy dice or something. Something trying to look vintagey and edgy but comes out looking a bit silly. Anyways, regardless if you think the packaging is cute or not, I just think it won’t hold up well in a makeup bag with other goodies. It seems flimsy. It contains nine shimmery shadows that can be used wet or dry. The shadows are of pretty good quality and are versatile. They all have “scandalous” names. It contains neutral browns such as Caught In The Act Courtney which is a deep brownie brown with gold shimmers, Shameless Shana which is a shimmering bronze-ish gold, and Jet Setting Jennifer which is a pale white gold shimmer. There are cool pinks and plums such as Luscious Lani which is a shimmery pink champagne that makes a great highlighter and Curvy Cami which is a beautiful plum with gold shimmer. There are blues and greens such as Jealous Jordana which is a rich shimmery emerald green, Risque Renee which is a deep navy shimmer and All About Alex which is an army olive green shimmer. Left alone there is Eazy Wheezie which is a silver shimmer named after the owner’s lovely adopted pug.

This limited edition kit retails for $38 and is available at sephora.com.
