I love coral makeup. Corals, peaches, apricots, salmons do so much for my complexion. I know many people stray away from coral, thinking of their Italian-American great aunt with the deep olive skin paired with electric coral lipstick, sandaltoe pantyhose, and open toe “bone” colored pumps. I think great-aunt is a Sophia Loren-ish fox, but I have learned that many people dislike the look. I think coral works on the peaches and cream complexions and the deeper Floridian complexions. I many not wear MAC Morange lipstick everyday but I do wear lots of soft shades of coral/peach. It is one of the few things that can liven up my pale, pasty PNW vitamin D deficient complexion. Bobbi Brown’s Cabana Corals is a “fresh take on an old favorite”. It’s a collection of coral shades that are so everyday neutral.

FACE: There is a Nectar Shimmer Brick. This is an amazing complexion enhancing shimmer powder compact with warm peach, coral, beige shades. This is better than bronzer for my skin tone. It also looks great used as an eye shadow.  There is a Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick. This is a shimmery blend of warm pink, mauve, and sands. This one creates a soft, candlelit rosé sparkling wine look. It is very pretty. Both retail for $38. There are new shades in the Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks. First things first, I love this versatile product. Cabo Coral is a peachy pink/salmon that really works for me. It adds a petal softness to my complexion and looks very natural. There is Calypso Coral which is a brighter coral. This works better for medium complexions. These go for $22.

EYES: There are a few new shades of Eye Shadow. Caviar is a black brown netural that makes a perfect lining shade. Navajo is an eye opening white with a hint of pink. Both colors are great for everyday wear and retail for $20. And there is the Extreme Party Mascara that I haven’t tried. It goes for $22.

LIPS: There are a few new shades of Shimmer Lip Gloss. Coral Sand is a peachy gold shimmer. It reminds me of NARS Orgasm lip gloss. There is Golden Nectar which is a warm neutral coral shimmer. Sunset Beach is more pink than coral with shimmer. It looks great with a tan. These retail for $20.There are 3 new shades in the Metallic Lip Color. Calypso Glaze is a warm pink shimmer. It looks very nice with a bronze smoky eye. Coral Glaze is a “nude” with a hint of peach shimmer. It is a very pretty neutral that looks like it belongs with thick cat eye makeup or smoky eyes. Coral Reef is a medium pinky coral that would work wonderfully with copper eye makeup. There are 2 new Lip Colors. Cabo Coral is a warm pink coral. I also like this Cabo Coral. It looks very nice with green eye makeup. Guava is a medium “lip color” pink. It is a better than natural color. All lip colors go for $22.

I think like most Bobbi Brown colors, that these are great everyday staples. I see them working well with paler peaches and cream complexions and those with a tan. I feel many of these colors work well with charcoal smoky eyes, metallic bronze eyes, smoky green eyes, and even “boring” matte beiges. The colors are nice and will take you from spring to fall. All items are available at specific department stores and bobbibrowncosmetics.com.

This is such a soft and delicate vintage look. I love the freshness of this look. Everything is fairly simple and it is all about a healthy, glossy lip. Anyone can wear a look like this. The neutral colors look great with all kinds of eye and hair colors.

FACE: Apply a simple foundation such as Covergirl Smoothers Liquid Foundation to even out the complexion. If extra coverage in some areas is needed, apply a concealer like Covergirl Fresh Complexion Concealer. Dust a loose powder in your color over the foundation and concealer to absorb oil and to set the foundation. Almay Nearly Naked Loose Powder is a nice formula for the price. A sheer blush should be added to the apples of the cheeks. I love the neutral color of Jane Be Pure Mineral Blush in Rose Silk.

EYES: Brows are perfectly shaped and only need a clear brow gel to keep them in their place. Try something like Revlon Brow Styling Gel. Eye makeup is very simple and fuss-free. All you need is a neutral duo such as NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Portobello. Apply the lightest beige shade from lash line to brow bone. Apply the darker beige in the crease. Take a brown eye liner and apply closely to the top lash line. Clarins Eye Liner Pencil in Brown is a nice and smooth pencil liner. Curl lashes and apply a coat of a brown/black mascara to top and bottom lashes.

LIPS: Lips are a nice rose and glossy. Apply a sheer lip liner such as Dior Glossy Liner in Glossy Rose. This will keep the lip gloss from bleeding. Apply a simple pink/rose lipstick such as Lipstick Queen in Rose Saint. Apply a shiny lip gloss over this color. Try something like Kiss My Face Organic Shine in Ruby. Apply it to a lip brush as to not “wipe” off your lipstick color. Or you can apply something like MAC Slimshine Lipstick in Intimidate, a sheer plummy rose lipstick. It won’t be as shiny but it makes this a “quick” and every day look.

I say that this look calls for a fruity-rose fragrance such as Creed Spring Flowers EDP.

Weekly Cheap Secret:

I still haven’t found my Holy Grail of mascaras but I have found a few that I like. Or that I would repurchase. Rimmel Extra Super Lash Waterproof Mascara is one of those mascaras. It is a great “natural” looking lash enhancer. This won’t add volume or make your lashes look Twiggy long. This is a good basic mascara. It darkens the lashes and the color does not budge. It slightly adds some volume and length. The best thing is that it isn’t clumpy at all. The brush bristles are very close together reducing the risk of clumps. I think I mainly in love with the brush. It is so good at separating. The formula is “wet”. This means you can keep building without any clumps (but don’t sneeze until it is dry!). This is waterproof and can’t be removed with soap and water. You’ll need a heavy-duty eye makeup remover to get it off. This is both good and bad. It just depends on your expectations. I love that it is waterproof. It makes a great consistency and I live in western Washington. It’s misty and I don’t need my eye makeup to run or give me raccoon eyes. This stuff wears through a blizzard and it wears during hot, humid weather. It doesn’t flake or smudge. The downside is getting it off. But, with a “real” eye makeup (oil-based) remover it is easy to get off.

I’ve read reviews that some people think this is a “dramatic” mascara. I’m not getting that from this. It darkens and I do wish that it was available in a brown/black shade. I find that with just 2 coats to to the top lashes and one coat to the bottom, that this looks pretty “natural” for mascara. Maybe they are using like 6 coats of something? Or maybe they had blonde lashes to begin with?

This stuff retails for under $4. It may not be a perfect product, but the price is fantastic. I’ve used $24 mascaras that were far worse than this. I have used mascaras that I like better as well, but they weren’t this cheap. For the price this is a great product. It’s a great way to stretch my beauty “allowance”.

Weekly Cheap Find:

L’Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Quad in Autumn Leaves is one of my must have neutrals. They are neutrals with warm undertones. This is a must have kit for natural redheads and anyone with warm undertones. The colors aren’t very exciting. But, they are those type of necessity colors. The kind that most of us have but if you don’t have then get them. There is a super pale fleshy matte beige, a light copper shimmer, a deep wooden matte brown, and a medium shimmery warm brown. The formula is really nice regardless of price. They blend easily and wear for a long time. It is better than many Chanel or Lancome powder shadows that I have used in the past. The colors are “nude” but better. They wear nicely with any lip shade. You can look super natural with a balmy lip or super elegant with a warm matte red lipstick. The warm undertones really brighten blue, gray, and green eye colors. It retails for under $8 and can be found pretty much anywhere.

I feel that this color is such a huge seller because it is so dark in the tube. Women want to feel daring and bold. They want to feel like they would actually wear a dark lipstick even though they most likely wouldn’t. Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is that middle of the road shade. It looks dark and daring but it is really pretty sheer and can be worn anywhere. It comes in a slender and sleek tube. The formula is not a lipstick and not a gloss. Well, so it claims. In my eyes it is a sheer and somewhat sticky and not as long wearing lipstick or a non-sticky and  long-wearing lip gloss! The color is a beautiful deep wine “stain”. It looks fresh and it is truly seasonless. It really adjusts to most skintones. It can look a bit more berry than wine. It plays with your skin’s undertones. It has worked with every color that I have ever dyed my hair. It retails $14. I am never without a tube. I love the way it feels and I love the flawless, everyday shade.

I’m really not in love with the Dior Parisian Nude spring 2009 makeup collection. I find it a bit boring and a little too average. It is a little too Clinique for my tastes. This isn’t a horrible look. It looks great on my people and it even looks much like my toned down work look. So, that is why it is boring. This isn’t a collection and it shouldn’t be limited edition; these are too much of the everyday colors that most ladies already own.

FACE: There is a limited edition Lady Dior Compact for $75. It is a purse looking metal compact that is made to resemble the Lady Dior bag. It contains a sheer and shimmery champagne cheek highlighter and a sheer pink lip gloss. I find this product extremely boring, especially for the price.

EYES: There is a 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow Compact in Parisian Lights. This compact features pretty and soft shades of white, copper, copper rose, pink, and stainless steel. It retails for $56. They have relaunched the 2-Colour Duo Eyeshadow in Nude Look which is a deep chocolate and shimmery rose. It is a pretty combo that retails for $35. My only beef is that there is more of the crease color than of the base, stupid guys, and Clinique has a duo identical to it for half the price. There is a Waterproof Crayon Eyeliner in Elegant Taupe which is a mushroomy medium brown. This shade is very pretty and I love the formula. It goes for $26 and comes with its own sharpener.

LIPS & NAILS: There are 2 Rouge Dior Lipsticks in Actress Chestnut, a warm rosey brown,  and Rita Beige, a rosey copper. These retail for $28. I’m not impressed with these shades at all and I do find the formula long wearing but a bit dry. Four Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect Lip Glosses have been relaunched/launched: Clutch Pink (a warm pink/rose shimmer), Ribbon Beige (warm brown shimmer), Satin Pink (cool pink shimmer), and Trenchcoat Beige (pinky nude shimmer). These go for $25.50 and I must admit that I like the formula but I am not wild about these boring shades. For the nails, there is a Vernis Nail Enamel in Porcelain which is a super sheer everyday pink shimmer.

But, yep, all I have to say is that this collection is a bit tame and boring. If the colors sell out, so be it, they offer these shades all the time. You can find these shades anywhere.

I’ve been really impressed with this compact I picked up not to long ago by Physicians Formula. It contains three super shimmery baked, domed eyeshadows that can be worn wet or dry. It contains a super shimmery golden beige, super shimmery medium golden brown and a super shimmery deep reddish copper. Each color wears smoothly, is very blendable and wears all day. I usually apply each color dry. If I do wear it wet, I just wet the deepest shade and wear it as a liner. It wears forever! I have blue eyes and these colors are great “neutrals” for me. Plus, this compact gets my vote for one of the best for redheads. These are a lot like Urban Decays Baked Bronzers and MAC Mineralize Eyeshadows. The compact comes with a sponge tip applicator which I rarely use. I prefer to use my brushes, don’t we all? The lightest shade is perfect with anything. I like to wear it and the medium shade in the crease with bright lips. The deepest shade makes for an interesting smoky eye. It is a really cool shade, a deep warm brown with reddish copper shimmer. These retails for about $7.50. Since they are “drugstore” cosmetics they do go on sale. I would like to pick up a few more of these. I really like the coverage and staying power. It is available at drugstore.com.

Chanel’s Holiday 2008 Makeup Collection is well, very Chanel. It is about flawless skin, nude eyes and bold lips. It is a pretty ho-hum collection but it can get maximum wear. It is polished and refined.

FACE: Poudre Précieuse Or Gold Highlighting Powder is very beautiful on warm skintones. It is a pale gold shimmer that looks great on the complexion, body and eyes. We have the Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen. It is alot like what all the other French cosmetic companies have been offering us this year and all the time. It is a pink undertoned concealer/highlighter pen that can be used under eyes or to add a bit of “color” to the complexion. It has a brush tip applicator.

EYES: We have the Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in in Beige de Chanel which is four everyday warm brown to taupe shades. They are versatile for the office or for the weekends. We have two Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eye Shadow in Source which is a shimmery pale pink and Riveria which is a shimmering pale gold-ish peach shade. These shadows are great if you have no wrinkles. They really can age the eyelids because they are so shimmery and “wet”. I do recommended trying before buying. And don’t try it on your hand, it usually looks awesome there. I’m talking try it on your lids. I’ve known so many people that have either loved this product or were so disappointed that they returned it. Le Crayon Yeux Eye Definer is in Noir Scintillant which is a pitch black with gold sparkles that is really pretty and fun. There is the Le Ligne De Chanel which is a creamy no budge liner in Brun-Lamé which is a duo of browns. It is described as a mix between a liquid liner and a khol liner. Nice.

LIPS: Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour is offered in Audace a reddish shade, Exaltation which is a deeper pink shade, Ardent which is a lovely mauve, and Nude which is perfect with smoky eyes. I love the Crème Gloss Lumière Brush-On Creme Lip Colour in Praline Rose which is a lovely nude pink bronze and Canele which is a lovely mauvey bronze. Two Lèvres Scintallentes Lip Glosses are available in Gold Shine which is a lovely pure gold shimmer and Red Shine which is a blood red gloss. The Le Vernis Nail Colors are kind of boring for Chanel. There is Perle Rosée which is a light nude shimmery pink, Dazzling which is a holiday red, and Haute Chocolat which is a golden brown.

Like I have said the colors aren’t super exicting but they are very wearable during and after the holidays. They’re very sleek and posh shades that are great for everyday and special occasions.

I am always searching for that HG mascara. I feel like I’ve tried so much. The thing is I don’t know what I really want. I think I want the dramatic look of false lashes, but the truth is if I want that then I should wear false eyelashes. Thy’re cheaper than trying tons of mascaras. Lately, I have been using Estee Lauder More Than Mascara in More Black. It is a pretty nice formula for everyday. It looks natural, nothing like my false lashes. But, I don’t need a false lash look everyday. This is a super natural looking mascara, imagine your lashes but with a little more wow. This doesn’t clump or flake. It darkens the lashes and makes them appear glossy. It is easy to remove at night. It is a wet formula and is buildable. It’s claim to fame is that it doesn’t make lashes feel dry or brittle. I will agree with this. This was the first thing I noticed. If you’ve tried Clinique’s Naturally Glossy Mascara and liked it then you will like this. This is very similiar but more “grown-up”. It added a bit more thickness to my lashes than Naturally Glossy. The brush seperates lashes and has a point. It is easy to coat every lash with this brush. It gets into every corner. The color is a basic black. If I repurchase then I would like to try a black/brown. I like the warmness provided by brown-ish mascaras. Especially now that my hair is auburn. Since this is an everyday mascara I would like to have it in black/brown. I have nothing bad to say about this mascara. I do wish it was cheaper. I hate paying this much for something I will throw out in 3 months. (It retails for $21, at least Estee offers a gift time.) It isn’t the most glamorous item on the market but it does its job.

I’ve been using Clinique Water-Resistant Eyeliner for years. It has that certain understated old school glamour that I dig. It is a water-resistant cake eyeliner that wears strongly all day without flaking or fading; however, it is easy to remove at night with any eye makeup remover. It comes in two shades: Muted Brown which is a matte warm brown and Neutral Black which is a matte blackboard shade. It comes in a cake powder form and just needs water to create a long wearing formula. I like it because well, it wears all day and I can use any brush that I like to create a sexy cat eye. I’m not wild about the brush that is included with the liner. I find it too “wide” so I use a liner brush that I bought at an art store. It’s really thin and I like the control that I have with the long handle. I use it for all of my “retro” looks. I just wet my liner brush and run it across the cake and line. It is really simple. The liner dries in a short time and won’t budge all day. It is great for those with sensitive eyes or those that are sick of running liner. I’ve went through a ton of these over the years. I really like Lancome’s Artliner liquid eyeliner but I use it for more dramatic looks because the colors are deeper and “crisper”. I use Clinique’s for most everyday wear because I’m so used to it I can apply it very quickly. It retails for $14.50 which is a great deal because this stuff lasts a long while.

Great for creating Bardot-ish eyes.
