So what? Sure, this pic has been photo-rouged but I love Miss Gabrielle’s look. Who doesn’t want the look of Coco Chanel?

FACE: Coco is porcelain perfect in this pic. We can’t get this smooth look without the help of somebody that is very handy with a computer 🙂 First, apply concealer where needed. Illamasqua Concealer is a good do it all product. Apply a matte finish powder in your shade. Try something like Chanel Double Perfection Natural Matte Compact Powder. Cheeks are super sheer. Apply a sheer powder blush in a slightly sable shade. Try something like Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush in Silky Sable (not pictured) or Larenim Blush in Innocence.

EYES: Brows are sleek and a bit exaggerated. Fill in brows if necessary with a brow pencil like Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in your shade. Brush an ivory shade from lash line to brows. I like Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Eyeshadow Single in Tusk. Brush a matte sable brown like Clinique Colour Surge Stay Matte Eye Shadow in Sable (not pictured). Line top lashes with a black eyeliner pencil like Avon Mineral Eye Liner in Onyx. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

LIPS: This look is all about a bold, fearless red lip. So, don’t do this look if your lips are chapped and less than perfect. Apply a red lip liner if you fear bleeding. L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in Always Red is an inexpensive option. A lipstick like Revlon Matte Lipstick in In The Red is rich and matte. Or you can use Victoria’s Secret Matte Cream Lipstick in Icon (not pictured).

And of course finish with the Chanel fragrance of your choice but I must lean towards #19. It’s one of my favorites.

Juliette Has A Gun Citizen Queen is everything at once and still not very exciting. It is made to feel very retro and 50’s and have a high concentration of fragrance, 20%, I think. It is a strong and long wearing fragrance. It wears all day. Seriously like 24 hours.  It does smell “old-fashioned” but more of an old fashioned interpretation of what modern perfumery has to offer. The bottom line with this fragrance is that it is trying way too hard. Think airbrushed park bench portrait of a real estate agent during this housing crisis. It is just trying too hard to be classy and expensive and “convincing”. When I wear this I feel like I am trying to be somebody I am not. I do consider myself to be a very glamorous person but this just smells like it is trying sooo hard. It smells like a mix of a wonderful luxury house, like Chanel, but not one of their breathtaking classics. This is more of one of their modern interpretations, think Allure, Coco Mademoiselle, or that God awful Allure Sensuelle. It is a take of a classic. At times this fragrance comes across as a bit drugstore-ish and Vanilla Fields like. This fragrance claims to have 160 notes that are “rare”, etc. They are using the same ad campaign that a perfume house would of used on bored 50’s housewives. I’m supposed to believe this is expensive (which it is) because it is exotic and complex and world rocking. It is supposed to be an “extreme” composition. It is a bit chypre and oriental and floral. It is everything and sometimes everything just comes out as generic. Throwing everything together doesn’t make you glamorous, it can make you very tacky. This is the bleached blonde with dark roots, rouged to hell and back, matching lips and fingertips, cleavage falling out but not in a Marilyn Monroe way more in a middle aged Cache clothing store way. This is a bad thing, this is a bad thing if you are not this lady. Yes, this lady is an Amazon in her own right but it just isn’t me. So when I smell this on me I’m always scared it’s my mother standing behind me waiting to bitch to me about something. This fragrance is trying so hard to be sexy but since it resembles a newer Chanel like an Allure it just smells like all of my friend’s mothers and my own mother.

This fragrance at first is very iris and amber with a little bit of rose. But, not an incense amber, more of a vanilla amber. The iris helps green it up a bit but it fades rather quickly on me and leave me with a rich and sweeter than I want it to be fragrance. It is heavy, I guess this is supposed to translate into seductive but I find that most men will find this a bit too heavy and abrasive. I’m sure there are gentlemen out there that like this, but do you really want to attract them anyways? 🙂 I can not find the leather notes. Or at least it doesn’t wear very heavily on my skin. I was hoping that this would be leathery too, oh well. This fragrance is described as “chypre” and “animalic”, that is a stretch. Pretty much the opening notes are the most interesting and then it slowly dries down to a sweet, resiny, ambery base with a little bit of floral. It is really annoying because I keep waiting for something interesting to happen and it never does. I expect for it to be interesting at it’s $105 and $135 price tag.

Anyways, it isn’t a disgusting fragrance. It is just not what I expected. It is playing off of a cute name and an OK bottle. It is selling to the gals that long for retro glamor and dream of being a pin-up or burlesque dancer. But, a gal that longs for retro glamor knows how to reach for a classic Dior, Chanel, or Caron. We don’t need this new crap that really comes across as a “poser”. This fragrance would be nice for those that like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, Allure, and Allure Sensuelle if they wanted something new. This is also good for those that like Donna Karan Cashmere Mist and they want something sweeter or the old Liz Claiborne Realities if they want a more expensive and a more niche replacement. I just know when a fragrance isn’t me and this one is it. It isn’t me at all. I hate to say this is something that my mom would wear because I wear a lot of old fragrances for someone my age that my mother would never think of touching. But, this is something my mom would wear. I really think the company should of marketed this to over the top ladies in their 40’s because they have the money to buy this anyways.

The scent retails for $105 for the 1.7 oz. and $138 for the 3.4 oz. It is available at beautyhabit.com and b-glowing.com.

You have got to love this Austrian actress look: lovely, soft, and feminine without being too sweet. It’s a nice vintage change from the super popular red lips look. Seeing a lot of red lips this holiday season.

First apply concealer and a powder foundation, I really like MAC Select Cover Up Concealer and MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Brows are thick, sculptured and dramatic. If you are blessed with thick brows, just apply a gel brow tamer, if not pencil in brows with MAC Eye Brows in a dark brown like Lingering. Apply a matte, white-ish nude shadow from lashline to brow bone. Use something like Gesso . Apply a light brown like Omega from lashline to crease. Blend with a big shadow brush. In the crease blend a frosty gray like Silver Ring. Line eyes with MAC Eye Khol in Phone Number which is a smoky gray. Line top lashline and bottom lashline. Next apply false lashes and/or black mascara. Mascara should be applied to bottom lashes also. Cheeks are soft and have a Georgia peach look. Apply MAC Powder Blush in Pinch O’ Peach. I love this shade, looks great on eyes too. Brush onto the apples of cheeks. Apply a lip liner like MAC Cremestick Liner in Summerfruit which is a pale coral. Apply MAC Lipstick in Ravishing for peachy perfect lips. Apply MAC Lipstick in Vegas Volt if your skintone is deeper. Curl hair and tossle for a messy sultry look. Apply fragrance, no one is dressed without it, I’m thinking something like Chanel Cristalle EDT, with its peachy green goodness.

Chanel’s Holiday 2008 Makeup Collection is well, very Chanel. It is about flawless skin, nude eyes and bold lips. It is a pretty ho-hum collection but it can get maximum wear. It is polished and refined.

FACE: Poudre PrĂ©cieuse Or Gold Highlighting Powder is very beautiful on warm skintones. It is a pale gold shimmer that looks great on the complexion, body and eyes. We have the Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen. It is alot like what all the other French cosmetic companies have been offering us this year and all the time. It is a pink undertoned concealer/highlighter pen that can be used under eyes or to add a bit of “color” to the complexion. It has a brush tip applicator.

EYES: We have the Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in in Beige de Chanel which is four everyday warm brown to taupe shades. They are versatile for the office or for the weekends. We have two Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eye Shadow in Source which is a shimmery pale pink and Riveria which is a shimmering pale gold-ish peach shade. These shadows are great if you have no wrinkles. They really can age the eyelids because they are so shimmery and “wet”. I do recommended trying before buying. And don’t try it on your hand, it usually looks awesome there. I’m talking try it on your lids. I’ve known so many people that have either loved this product or were so disappointed that they returned it. Le Crayon Yeux Eye Definer is in Noir Scintillant which is a pitch black with gold sparkles that is really pretty and fun. There is the Le Ligne De Chanel which is a creamy no budge liner in Brun-LamĂ© which is a duo of browns. It is described as a mix between a liquid liner and a khol liner. Nice.

LIPS: Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour is offered in Audace a reddish shade, Exaltation which is a deeper pink shade, Ardent which is a lovely mauve, and Nude which is perfect with smoky eyes. I love the Crème Gloss Lumière Brush-On Creme Lip Colour in Praline Rose which is a lovely nude pink bronze and Canele which is a lovely mauvey bronze. Two Lèvres Scintallentes Lip Glosses are available in Gold Shine which is a lovely pure gold shimmer and Red Shine which is a blood red gloss. The Le Vernis Nail Colors are kind of boring for Chanel. There is Perle Rosée which is a light nude shimmery pink, Dazzling which is a holiday red, and Haute Chocolat which is a golden brown.

Like I have said the colors aren’t super exicting but they are very wearable during and after the holidays. They’re very sleek and posh shades that are great for everyday and special occasions.

I’m still searching for my HG mascara even after using Chanel Exceptionnel Intense Volume and Curve Mascara in Smokey Black. This is not the mascara for me. First off the wand is really hard to use. I’m a makeup artist, I’m supposed to be a little talented and applying mascara should be easy. This brush has “combs” just like LancĂ´me Fatale and then normal bristles like most traditional mascaras. However, the normal bristles are really short and don’t really touch the lashes. You are supposed to “twirl” the mascara from the lashline for a clump-free look. I twirled, I curled, I did it all and still had really clumpy lashes. It deposits lots of product because of the combs. The formula dries thick and brittle. The worse thing is that it flakes like mad all over my face. All day I find little black things all over my face and even on my chin looking like man whiskers. The mascara is very hard to remove at night and I use Lancome Bifacil and still can’t get it off. I have to use two rounds of Lancome’s eye makeup remover. The combs aren’t good at separating lashes. I have to use a traditional spoolie over this to define my lashes. And they call this brush innovative… This formula does add volume but it looks very unnatural and does have flaky fibers. Even though I dislike this mascara, I would recommend it to those that like Lancome Fatale or other thick comb mascaras. And I would recommend it to people that like “thick” mascara-ish looks, the looks that look like lots of mascara, not lots of lashes, mascara. This look was popular a few falls ago. Overall, I’m disappointed. This is not good for my everyday life. It takes too long to apply and looks really bad on me. This is a $28 mascara and I should of stuck with Chanel Inimitable. I haven’t found my HG but I know that I want separated lashes. I know that I need a “wetter” formula and a brush that is not like the one of Exceptionnel. I think I’m going to trade mine for Inimitable.

primitiva

I don’t know if you really listen to much Martin Denny but it is really perfect this time of year when it’s time for a mojito, but if you don’t like his music you’ll love the babe that is on most of the album covers. Today I will tackle the LP Primitiva album cover from 1958, a time of tiki inspired stripclubs. First, I’d tackle those brows and use a pencil, no gel or powder will cut this intense look. I’d recommend L’Oreal Brow Shaping Duet in Black/Brown. I’d apply a matte finish foundation like Maybelline Matte Mousse Foundation, apply this with a flat buffer brush after applying with fingers. I’d top with a light dusting of Cornsilk Shineless Natural Matte Loose Powder, this product really works with the vintage look. My granny always used it. I’d apply a concealer with a matte finish as well, such as Lancome Effacernes Protective Undereye Concealer. By this time your skin is a perfect matte canvas. Move on to eyes and lay it on thick. I’d use Urban Decay Primer Potion and cover the whole eye area with Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Foxy which is a matte ivory. Then, brush NYX eyeshadow in Hawaiian Coffee (what an appropriate name for an Exotica inspired look) in the crease and blend until perfect. Line the upper lashline with NYX Pen Eye Liner in Jet Black in a thick, cat-eyed motion. Apply MAC lashes in 6 Lash and coat with MAC Pro Lash Mascara in Coal Black. Apply a minimal amount of mascara to the bottom lashes for a wide-eyed look. Now, my favorite part is the lipstick. Line lips with NYX Long Lip Pencil in Plush Red. I don’t care what people say about nude lipliners, when you want a bold red lip you must use a bold red lipliner. Apply Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Creme Lipstick in Fire, a vivid warm red shade. My second favorite thing in the whole world: blush. Lightly sweep Nars Powder Blush in Desire, a flushing cotton candy pink, with a fantail brush. It’ll really look natural. Finally, coat those nails in OPI Nail Lacquer in Vodka and Caviar or there new and super cute retro pin-up inspired summer shade, Calender Girl. Then I’d not do doodley squat to my hair and tie my boobs up in some kind of suede rag. By doing this I’m sure somebody will buy you a Mai Tai.

P.S. If anyone knows this lady’s name please share! For years, I’ve wanted to know her back story but I’ve been unsuccessful as far.
